Anybody used Firestone tubeless tyres in their cars and if so, what is the experience?

Appreciate early response.

No I have not used the fire stone , i would suggest the MRF but 145/80/R12, however i am using Goodyear Hi miler 145/80/R12 for last 11 months and i am satisfied . These are good Tyres. Even the battery i am using is BOSS from Exide for last 2.5 years and it is still going strong only you have to charge externally once in a year and check the water.

Also VR sir you can use Falken those are very good tyres at a cheaper rate , i have been using the same for my Santro after my stock bridgestones (the Bstone were not so good as per my experience). i have around two years back purchased the same online from snapdeal.
Imp Note : - while taking any tyre go for all the four of same manufacturing date and not more than a few months old.

@ Silver Dove; first of all, my sincere thanks for your reply. I could read this afternoon only as I did go to Wheel care place this morning , the biggest and honest people in Mangalore, where I got my earlier 4 Bridgestone tube Tyres and do regular wheel alignment n Balancing. I bought Firestone Tubeless of 145/70R12 costing Rs 9200 for 4 tyres and extra Rs 917 for wheel alignment, Balancing, N2 filling etc. I am going to post the details in a separate thread - HIGHEST MAINTENANCE COST OF MY MARUTI 800 DX CAR OF 1998 after few minutes. Please do go thru it at your free time and give me your feed back.

I got all the 4 tyres of Firestone which are just 14/15 weeks old only, means manufacturing date as July 2017.

As regards the Battery I had stock exide wet type battery which lasted for 3 yrs only, later I did go for dry type amaron costing Rs 3000 which lasted for 7 yrs, next Amaron lasted for 6 yrs and now I have 3rd amaron battery bought in January 2014 at Rs 3200 by deducting about Rs 400 for old Battery.( 3600-400 = 3200)

With Regards

Though I maintained my car well to the best of my ability, I happened to come across TAI web site in the month of April 2017 and took interest to go through the Threads that too after doing Engine oil flushing etc during last week of March 2017. So thereafter words I went on taking more interest in keeping my car more and more cleaner and spent about Rs 27000 in these 6- 7 months, plus Rs 10117 today for all the 4 nos Tyres Replacement, such as :
- Engine oil Flushing by Wurth and changing the Engine oil from 20w40 to 20w50 Shell, change of Spark plugs, point condenser, oil filter, fuel filer, change of fan belt, Timing Belt, Brake Cylinder etc etc costing about Rs 6000.
- Replacement of Rear Bumper, Replacement of Head lights, steering overhaul etc costing about Rs 2500
- Replacement of Battery tray costing about Rs 500 in May 2017
- 3rd party Insurance of Rs 2536 in May 2017
- Big task of under body Anti rust coating with primer as well as Tufkote by spending about Rs 4200.One can go through the trouble I had to undergo in the Thread – Antirust under body coating with detailed report and photos for the benefit of others.
- Replacement of Bosch wiper, some plastic loops for wheel caps Rs 550 in May 2015
- Buying of extra Door mats, car perfume, Windscreen cleaner, Car Polish, car shampoo etc from Amazon in June 2017 costing about Rs 1500
- Replacement of both Rear Shock Absorbers costing about Rs 2000 in June 2017,
- Changing Coolant , Engine Bay Compartment cleaning etc costing about Rs 2000 in June 2017
- Carburettor Overhauling in July 2017 costing about Rs 1700
All the parts were from MGP only and not any local / duplicate items.
- Putting AC in to operation after 8-9 years, without going in for new kit for 134a Gas costing about Rs 7000 but got the work done by an expert by N2 flushing, vacuum check up, compressor oil top up and charging with Dupoint M - 49 gas which is better than earlier R12 gas, The Total cost was Rs 2200.
Important Issue which was pending : Replacement of all the 4 tyres.
Background : 2 Nos of stock Tyres of MRF were replaced in March 2006 by 2 Nos Bridge stone tube Type Radial Tyres, each costing Rs 1250 at 33800 kms. Remaining 2 Nos Stock MRF Tyres were replaced in November 2007 by 2 Nos Bridgestone tube type Radial Tyres, each costing Rs 1525 each at 38890 kms. The Wheel Alignment as well as Wheel Balancing was done each time.
Call it my ignorance that I never changed my 4 tyres of Bridgestone for 10/11 yrs as there was not a single puncture in these 11 yrs. The Stepney also remanded idle for 11 yrs in my Dicky. Honestly I FORGOT how to change the tyre in case of any tube punctures but sure of getting help from some youngsters, if at all, it happened. Of course at every 5000 kms, I got the Wheel Alignment as well as Wheel Balancing done. Added to that my car usage was hardly 1000 to 1200 kms in the past 4 years.
I came to know from many members that I have to change my tyres and it is the high time for my own safety. So few exchange of messages took place with members from May 2017 onwards. However I kept the replacement of tyres pending and wanted to take care of this issue after doing all the above issues. So I did post some queries last week as regards tyre replacement and never got any reply from any experts or any members, except getting friendly tips from dear Harsh from Gujarat and Silver-Dove from Mumbai this morning which I could read this afternoon only. Thank you dear Harsh and Silver – Dove for your honest tips / suggestions / feed back.
I had 4 choices – Go for Michelin 145/80/R12 Tubeless each costing each Rs 3100 . 2nd Choice was Bridgestone Turanza 145/80 R 12 Er60 Tubeless each costing Rs 3240 each. 3rd choice was Goodyear Duraco Hi Miler 145/70 R 12 each costing Rs 2700. 4th Choice was Firestone 145/70R12 FR500 each costing Rs 2300.
I gave lot of thoughts, because the scaring thought in my mind was that if at all I have to change all the 4 Rims, add another Rs 4000. On opening and after thorough checking it was found that the stock Steel Rims are in good shape, no rusting, no bend anywhere. Also the usage of my car is mainly limited to city drive and seldom Highway drive. So I took a calculated risk and decided to go for Firestone Tyres today 29th October 2017 at 55,086 kms. The manufacturing date is July 2017, 2 tyres are just 14 weeks old and 2 tyres are 15 weeks old. The Total cost is Rs 10,117. I have kept one best tube type Bridgestone Tyre as Stepney.
4 Nos Firestone FR 500 tyres = Rs 9200
Wheel Alignment = Rs 200
Wheel Balancing = Rs 160
Tyre Changing service = Rs 40
N2 Filling = Rs 200 ( This seems to be high because at petrol pump we get it free if we fill up the petrol there)
8 plastic Loops for Wheel caps Rs 40
4 nos Tyre Necks( Nipples) - Rs 200
Balancing of old Tyre - Rs 77
Grand Total = Rs 10117

Photos can be seen under the same heading Thread just posted.

DIY - Painting of Minor Rust points in my M-800 DX 1998
The purpose of posting this is to caution members not to fall prey to some shops who charge unreasonable costs for minor repair work. I was thinking about doing some painting of minor rusting points in my M- 800 car of 1998. Of course it was not that serious but stitch in time is the best solutions. What I am supposed to do at 30 plus, now Im doing at 70 plus and it is really fun and gives tremendous pleasure.

Of course no rusting at under body as I got the Anti - rusting coating done about 6 yrs ago at MASS by 3M Coating and recently in the month of May 2017 with primer and Tufkote coating at under body as well as on cabin floor as precaution.

I took my car to a painting shop and he said he would charge me Rs 1200 for these minor painting work, saying that he has to remove all the rust by spray, then apply Laambi, use smooth sand paper to clean it and apply paint by small brush. He said it will take more than a day and I have to leave the car there. I said I would think over and come back.

I went to another painting shop, he said he will take a full day and I have to leave the car there in the morning and collect my car in the evning after 6 pm. He asked for Rs 1000 for this work. I said I would think over and come back.

I did go to a shop where they sell only car paint. I asked him to give me 100 ml of white paint matching my car color as after 19 1/2 yrs though it looks bright white but still age made it look less whiter. He charged me Rs 80. Bought a small WD 40 spray costing Rs 70 and a smooth sand paper costing Rs 10 and a small 2 mm paniting brush costing Rs 8. Total cost Rs 168.

There is famous saying - APNA HAATH JAGANNATH. First I cleaned my car with 3M Shampoo yesterday morning and after drying, I did Waxpol polishing since Monsoon is already over. It took almost 4 hours for me to do this task of making my car shiny again. This morning I did spray WD - 40 at those Minor Rust spots, rubbed it with clean cloth and did apply sand paper to clean them. Now the surfaces were ready for painting. So I applied the paint carefully and it took hardly an hour and kept it for drying for 3 hrs.

please do have a look at page no 77 for the earlier photos showing minor rusting points and the Thread - DIY - Painting of Minor Rust points in my M-800 DX 1998, for the photos after doing the painting work.

Clean your evaporator, maybe its clogged. Also check the AC thermostat.

Hello friends, here i have some technical problem. Kindly help me out about my problem. The problem is that I have Maruti 800 2006 model (injector). In the morning starts, the engine starts well for few seconds (running well about 3,4 seconds). After that, the engine stops. I started the engine again, the engine running/starts well but after few seconds, the engine miss firing and almost the engine die/stall, during this time, the engine and the body is shaking/vibrating due to miss firing and the idle speed increased and decrease again. But after the engine has been running warm, i have no problem at all, the engine is running very well. What could be the problem. So, please help me to solve this problem. Thank you.

I am not an expert but I guess it could be spark plug misfiring or point condenser problem. You can get it checked. Seems to be simple problem. Any good Auto mechanic can help you by disconnecting the distributor , may be you have to change the spark plugs / point condenser.

Experts can also guide you here.
Good luck to you.

Seems your Battery is dead.
You can get the Bearings from any Maruti Authorized dealer. Does your wheels make any screeching sound?

Small repair work in M- 800 at the Rear Bumper is expensive affair but better than replacing the new one with another within 5 months.

I did replace the rear Bumper in May 2017, Bumper cost was Rs 1200 and fixing cost was Rs 200.

Last week while I was going slow near the Veggi Market, some Idiot Bike rider overtook me from left and instead of hitting the pothole, he put sudden brake thereby hitting my rear bumper and ran away. I took my car to FNG and he said the left bracket broke and temporarily fixed the Bumper, charged me Rs 100 and asked me to come after 3-4 days, so that he could get the new bracket and fix it.

Yesterday I did go there and on opening the Rear Bumper, observed that the left side bracket screw broke due to rust. However I asked him to replace both brackets, each costing Rs 28 since he brought 2 brackets by my luck. He had to use gas to cut the screw struck in the hole, paint the portion with car white paint since it became blackish, wait for about 1/2 hr, also fixed a crack in the bumper by M- seal and fixed the bumper and charged me Rs 56 for the brackets and Rs 200 for the service rendered. This FNG is just one km from my place

Of course I will not use my car today since M- Seal has to dry out completely and has to become hard like steel. Of course no vibration so far and hope it will hold it for some time.

photo one shows the bracket with broken screw and photos shows the part no.

Thanks for your suggestions.

How could I clean the evaporator coil , it's need technicians help ? What's the approximate cost of thermostat ?

I think your problem solved, I'm also affected the same problem six months ago, No problem in day time traveling, ac and head lights on at night time battery not charging, output current reduced to 12.5 volts, my mechanic suggest to replace an new alternator, I asked to service the alternator, he told it's a DENSO product success rate only 50%.

Very rare availability of inside spares, spares and service charge nearly 2.5 k . But new DENSO alternator cost of 5200 only. Lucas bit costlier than DENSO nearly 8 k , but possible to change all parts and the success rate of 100% so Lucas is best one, now I'm using ac with head lights , audio player, and extra fog lamp 100 watts each .

Thank you

Hello Boss,
I will plan to charge my AC gas , I asked in the market, they told 450 ml fluron brand 134a gas Rs. 250 only , charging kit Rs 1000. It's possible to do myself ? I saw some videos on YouTube.

Dear friends,
its been a long time i hadn't written about few technical issues and how it was solved in my beloved 2005 MPFI M800. Some minor problems were solved with DIY which i shall slowly make a write up but the biggest major issue was faced by me 3 days ago.
One cold morning when i started the car ,it started with a single crank but i felt there was something amiss with the way the engine sounded and also felt a"missing" from the engine when i revved .
When i was on my way to work i noticed the temperature gauge wavering at half and beyond half mark but then came back to normal when the fan started .I stopped to check as this happened thrice is quick succession and i wasn't using the AC as well.I was driving in moderate traffic which was slow but not stop and go.When checked the coolant levels in the overflow tank had gone dry.I immediately opened the oil cap on the engine to find that there was a great amount of whitish sludge inside the cap.Immediately i realised it was a head gasket leak and confirmed it with Maruti ASS[cry].Although i should have been more careful a head gasket blow up is unfortunate.I took my car to the ASS and spent the next 2 days fixing her internals .The following was done
1) the top part of engine opened up to expose the piston head and gasket mating surfaces
2)old gasket completely scraped out and mating surfaces polished
3) rust smash to clean out all the bolt head and the holes in the block
4)replacement of timing belt(i had lost 2 belt teeth and i was lucky i never broke down! )
5)replacement of v belt and ac belts (they too were cracked )
6)replacement of water pump
7)replacement of head gasket and all radiator hoses going into and out of engine block and into the radiator
8) replacement of thermostat valve
9)all spark plugs
10)radiator and engine core flush with distilled water ;
11)new engine oil and coolant with oil filter
12)timing belt tensioner
13)brake fluid top up
all the tappet gaps were adjusted prior to resealing the engine .
The car runs beautifully now with a very nice sound to the engine.
The parts used are all MGP and i have attached the bill and parts numbers with price of each for your references .
I should make a mention of the service centre SPEED MOTORS located at Banashankari .Nice friendly folks and they were appreciative of the fact i stood by my car for the whole process and was interactive with them.I felt i should have taken more pictures during the process but i was so engrossed with the work being done i totally forgot the same:stupid:
Anyways all well that ends well ! I spent Rs 8414 inclusive of parts ,labor and the taxes .And now i shall have peace of mind for a long time to come
