Re: Mahindra XUV500 Alloys Break: Quality Compromise?
Friends,
The issue of Alloys breaking is a serious one as you all agree. Now, immaterial is the fact whether they are sold as OEM fitment or whether they are sold as a accessory by OEM dealer, point is, how come Mahindra shared it's brand name with a product whose quality even for 1 shipment or lot has been sub-standard? Why was there over-shoot of protocol of quality inspection by Mahindra even if it is for 1 piece of alloy or 1 particular shipment? Do You think Mahindra won't be knowing of the shortfall of this particular design of alloys? When a common buyer associates with a brand then he expects certain amount of trust and assurance from the brand. It is not about the lakhs of XUV500 being driven on road, it is about the life of those few people which were at stake when a accident like this happened. It needs only a couple of fed-up customers to ruin the image of a particular brand no matter Indian or International.
Now, to further substantiate my above statement, I would like put on record here in the benefit of all existing XUV owners and the prospective buyers who intend to buy accessories from OEM, I have today itself met with Executives of one of the biggest Dealer of Mahindra in Delhi NCR to provide this feedback to them. Here are some pics and details which I would like to share:
The Genuine Alloys of XUV 500

Cost: INR 65K-70K
The Design of Alloys sold as Accessory by OEM Dealers
Cost: INR 43,500 under exchange for 5 Alloys (Flower Design) for W4 and W6 models.
Here is the proof of cost from the Dealer itself for accessory alloys

Now, The unsuspecting customer buys these alloys only to accentuate the looks of the car and with the trust of the brand and not risk his/her life. I spoke to the executive about the same and here is what the conversation was:
Me: Ma'am there is some issues with the flower design alloys that you sell as accessory. These alloys break away even when car is driven at low speeds.
Ex: Sir, I am hearing this for the 1st time. The car has been launched 4 years ago and initially there were complaints of some Brake related issue but was rectified.
Me: There is not 1 but at-least 2-3 more cases of same type. Where the whole wheel broke off the car and the center part of alloy remained attached to brake disk.
Ex: Sir could be an issue of quality with a particular lot. But if anything has happened as such, please forward it Mahindra customer care. Definitely a resolution can be provided.
Me: What sort of resolution?
Ex: The owner can claim it from the dealer. The dealer would inspect and then provide replacement for the broken part. It could be possible that the alloy broke due to some accident.
Me: If you have a laptop or ipad etc I can show you the proof for your understanding.
Ex: Sir, I accept your point, but since it is one of its kind complaint better would be to approach through the customer care. I am sure you haven't got a complaint from Delhi-NCR
Me: Irrespective the location, why has such a thing even happened in any part? Mahindra is a reputed brand with good cars, why are these issues cropping up?
Ex: Sir, This does not happen on regular basis, could be possible there might be a lapse.
Me: Where is your HQ?
Ex: This itself is the HQ with other branches in Delhi.
Me: May know whose your chief here?
Ex: Ya he is Mr. SS
Me: Thanks, If need be, I'll share this issue with him and would like to have his feedback too.
Before this conversation, A brief conversation was held between me and the accessory person of the dealership,
Me: What is this silver shaped alloy called?
AP: Sir it is flower design
Me: Cost?
AP: Rs. 43, 500/-
Me: I brief him of the breaking of the alloy.
AP: We are not involved about selecting the brand, we are provided this alloys through Mahindra.
Me: But this alloy breaks up even in low speed.
AP: Sir, as of now we have no such complaints.
After discussing this matter with the executives, it is clear that their only work is to sell and earn revenue out of accessories. It would be better if the buyers refrain from buying such type of accessories from dealers. In my Honda City, the alloys are of 18,500 and in MAY this year they'll be 1 year old, they are of far better quality than these accessory ones shown in the pics.
I hope Mahindra would swiftly check upon this issue and provide requisite solution to the affected owners asap.

Akash
