Re: A trip to Valparai: A Travelogue
@Mukeshus/carfreak
We took the Krishnagiri - Salem - Coimbatore bypass - Pollachi - Aliyar dam - Valparai. Both up and down
My GPS gave me a different route - Kanakapura - malavalli - chamarajnagar - etc -. But I thought I will stick to known route.
4 lane work is going on for around 20 to 30 kms before Coimbatore. So lot of diversions.
When we reached coimbatore, we took the L&T bypass road (toll road 31 rs) that bypasses coimbatore. Took the left turn at the road that goes towards Pollachi (state highway - 2 lane - good condition - but have to be cautious about buses).
From Pollachi we took a right towards Aliyar dam/Valparai. There is a diversion as soon as we take the right as a rail over bridge is under construction. so we need to take a left, right, again a right to join the Aliyar road.
Once we reach the Aliyar road, the road conditions are good (2 lane)
You can stop at Aliyar dam either on the way up or while returning. after Aliyar dam there is a good water falls (Monkey falls - you can take bath there) on the right as soon as you start the climb after the check post.
We bypassed both Aliyar dam and Monkey falls as we had already visited these places before.
The Ghat roads are in great condition and it was a real pleasure to drive. 40 hairpin bends - wow!
The only drawback is that the scenery on the way up is so beautiful that we were stopping every now and then to see the beauty.
We started from Bangalore around 5:00 am, had breakfast at A2B Thoppor and reached coimbatore around 11:45 am.
Originally we had planned to have lunch at Pollachi. But our relatives, who stay in Pothanur, just off the L&T bypass forced us to have lunch with them. So we had lunch there and started from there around 1:30 pm and reached Valparai around 5 pm.
The whole trip, including a trip from Valparai to Athirapally, 70 kms away (through dense forest) in Kerala, was around 1250kms
The distance from Coimbatore to Valparai is around 90 odd kms.
@autosafari
I will post a detailed trip experience.
In the mean time more pictures follows.

Thanks for helping me out with the image posting.

The route that you got will also get you there and may be shorter. But we preferred the 4lane highway. In any case we need to cover the 20 odd kms where the 4lane work ongoing before reaching Coimbatore.
