Mahindra and Mahindra is planning to introduce a micro-hybrid model of its SUV model Xylo in the Indian market. Mahindra Chief, Pawan Goenka, stated that the company may launch the micro-hybrid Xylo version by 2010-end. He also stated that the company will be using the Reva technology for three commercial vehicles – MaXximo, Gio, and Bijlee. The Mahindra Xylo Micro Hybrid will be the third Mahindra vehicle to get the fuel efficient technology amongst Mahindra’s product portfolio. The micro hybrid technology enables the engine to stop when the car is idle for more than 30 seconds but the engine starts as soon as the driver pushes the gas pedal. This means saving fuel in heavily congested urban traffic. The option is already available to its flagship SUV Scorpio and Bolero MaxiTruck. According to Goenka, there are about 50,000 micro-hybrid vehicles from the M&M stable plying on the roads now. He also stated that the company will introduce Reva NXG and NXR models in India by early 2011. In May, M&M had acquired 55.2 percent stake in Reva Electric Car Co by a combination of equity purchase from its promoters and a fund infusion of over Rs 45-crore in the Bangalore based company. It was later renamed as Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicle Co with Goenka as the chairman. source - cartradeindia

No idea how to comment the feature

Almost every one drive here with ac on.
When you stop at signal , say about two min , after some 30 sec the engine stops and the ac stops . And when starting you must take car to switch ac off and start. Same way if a player is playing , it restart when the ignition is taking place.

Means buy a car worth 8+ L and sit without air circulation for 2 min!

Also the turbo fixed car are advised to be in idle mode for about one min before and after driving . And even the mahindra manual says them . People fix turbo timers to take care of there baby - this micro hybrid feature make useless sense . What is ther to boast about it , and introducing in xylo too.

Can any one explain?

@ilango very valid points indeed . and I doubt how much fuel one can save there just in two mins idling period?
dont say that buddy! i am not a huge fan of micro hybrid tech but if you have seen Nat Geo, they have mentioned that if every indian switches off his car in signals, then india will save 700 crores worth of fuel every year!

Umang Micro Hybrid just a Sensor in the clutch that Starts & Stops when clutch is depressed when in neutral after 10 seconds.
And this feature can be switched off.

And that too this feature is adviced not to be used first 1000 kms in new vehicle as its puts tremendous load on battery.
We can switch off at signals, but the most irritating is the vehicles in bangalore behind you will be honking as soon as they see green light in signal.
And in summer while AC is switched on it really annoys you.

When i had heard Micro Hybrid after my purchase of Scorpio i had thought it to be a Hybrid vehicle as Prius.
But i was wrong it was just Start & Stop system.

yeah maybe but we are burning how much a day brother?then compare it to this 700 crores that will be nothing I feel
That is precisely why India wastes fuel. Yes, I did say waste. Remember, there are millions of cars and people who think, it doesn't matter if we burn that little amount of fuel. We always forget, little drops make up an ocean.

Use fuel when you need it, shut the engine off at traffic signals.

@ AMG: Xylo 4x4 is coming, its being tested. Scoop pics are on the net.

@ ilango: with the micro hybrid ON, you dont need to take care to switch the AC off while starting. mahindra had provided the micro hybrid with a extra durable starter motor & better battery to cope up with the start-stop system.

mahindra not fool and technologically advanced!! so they must have done something to prevent turning off AC and music system ...also read that only engine gets off (something like standby mode) but battery is still working!! so no probs with music system and for AC raj_5004 already explained!..

Hey dude
Grab a copy of ACi mag.
The AC cut off problem is in both Bolero Hybrid and Scorpio hybrid.
So there is no reason why it wont be in Xylo micro-hybrid.
And the battery is cut off also.
But the micro hybrid can be turned off by a switch, so it is no big problem.

Air conditioners and water pumps have typically been designed to run off a serpentine belt on the engine, those systems must be redesigned to function properly when the engine is turned off. Most of the Hybrid engines comes with an electric motor to power such subsystems. Hence, these are not affected when the engine is turned off. [thumbsup]
