Mahindra and Mahindra is planning to introduce a micro-hybrid model of its SUV model Xylo in the Indian market. Mahindra Chief, Pawan Goenka, stated that the company may launch the micro-hybrid Xylo version by 2010-end. He also stated that the company will be using the Reva technology for three commercial vehicles – MaXximo, Gio, and Bijlee. The Mahindra Xylo Micro Hybrid will be the third Mahindra vehicle to get the fuel efficient technology amongst Mahindra’s product portfolio. The micro hybrid technology enables the engine to stop when the car is idle for more than 30 seconds but the engine starts as soon as the driver pushes the gas pedal. This means saving fuel in heavily congested urban traffic. The option is already available to its flagship SUV Scorpio and Bolero MaxiTruck. According to Goenka, there are about 50,000 micro-hybrid vehicles from the M&M stable plying on the roads now. He also stated that the company will introduce Reva NXG and NXR models in India by early 2011. In May, M&M had acquired 55.2 percent stake in Reva Electric Car Co by a combination of equity purchase from its promoters and a fund infusion of over Rs 45-crore in the Bangalore based company. It was later renamed as Mahindra Reva Electric Vehicle Co with Goenka as the chairman. source - cartradeindia
