Yes, Vishwas and Visran, It is the time for Mini SUV/urban SUV time in India with sub 4 meter benefits !!

Mahindra will get benefited more in this segment as they have launched one first in the country[:)]
Actually Premier Rio was the first mini SUV which came into existence, but lack of 7 seats and doubtful A.S.S pulled it down.

Mahindra cleverly saw this as an oppurtunity and threw the product where people are ready to accept it.

If Ford price EcoSport over New Fiesta Sedan, then it would take EcoSport in the range of Storme, Scorpio and well established Duster. Tough competition upcoming guys. [clap]
Then if it comes to Bangalore the base model itself would start from 11 lakhs!

I was at marine drive for my work and had some time to kill so decided why not go and check the mahindra quanto in the nearby mahindra dealer at chowpatty . So here is my mini review of the mahindra quanto .

the welcome in this showroom was nice too , nice coffee was served to me and I asked for a test drive of quanto . A lady SR promptly arranged a red demo quanto for me it was a top of the line model .

The quanto though in pictures look weird in real looks not that bad , the display model which was black was actually looking good .
The car gives a very solid feel , but there are good amount of panel gaps in the exteriors which you will see later in pics .

Inside the quanto the interiors are same as the xylo so their quality is as good and as bad as the xylo if you happen to hate the interiors of xylo you will not like the quanto interiors .

In my subjective opinion they are not that bad to look but the quality of materials used could have been better the dash board plastics have quite good amount of flex in it and don't seem to be sturdy .

The driving position is superb , the overall visibility is also fantastic there is plenty of head room and the ergonomics are also good .
The rear seat has phenomenal space and can easily seat 3 medium sized people in ease . But the seat is very bench like and the under thigh support is not adequate .

The last row jump seats are joke and anybody just can't sit their comfertable once the door is closed .

Drivability - the quanto is a 3 pot engine and mahindra must be applauded because nowhere does the engine sound like a 3 potter . The engine is not responsive as mahindra engines generally are like they are in Scorpio , xuv and thar . The quanto picks up the steam once we are at 1700 rpm and above . The clutch has a long travel and less hard then Scorpio or xuv , the gear stick also has vibration but not to a extent that you feel uncomfortable . The throws are long and though not very hard they can't be called slick too .but they do slot well .

, I dint do any high speed stuff as the road was busy the max I could achieve was speed of 80 . I dint take any sharp turns so won't comment anything on body roll but just looking at the car one can easily feel that this car has to be driven in limits .

Overall the quanto is a good choice if you have a family of 5 and yet want a muv / SUV with a small foot print and are ok with the looks .( looks of quanto have very polarizing views )

There is no waiting period for the quanto one can book it and get the car as soon as the formalities are finished , this was told to me by the SR who attended me .

Pictures are as follows clicked by nokia lumia 800

Above views are my subjective views about the car .

Nice review mate. I hope you had chance to test the body roll as well.

Nice effort and nice pics. Actually I like the Xylo (Subjective) so I like Quanto as well. God knows why, but I like the Xylo. [lol].

Actually Once I sat in Xylo, and the seats were so comfortable plus it is huge inside. So apart from last row, Quanto would be same as well.[clap]

@Raja

Good crisp review

- Looks good from rear and side to me
- driving area spaces looks to be cramped
- there is no pic of 2nd row raja ??
- panel gaps looks to be huge
- yes jumps seats are really funny
- it seems this demo vehicle already met with a good accident it seems on the rear door as it is re painted it seems where demo sticker is missing

I do not know what to call this extended hatch or hatch+/MUV/half SUV !!

Here is the pic of the second row
Seat type and legroom both are not so great [cry]
Leg room is fine , I mean I dint see any problem .

yes the seat is very much like a bench and the back support is very up right and no adequate under thigh support .
Actually the legroom is good when compared to other hatches, it doesn't give thigh support because the backrest has been positioned at 90 degrees, so there's no way you'll get enough thigh support.Worst factor here is you can't even adjust the backrest for you have those jump seats behind.

Those jump seats are a joke really. We backed out from this vehicle after we saw the nil space in the boot.

Extremely confused about our buying factor[frustration]

How was the driving experience for you and your dad ?
Actually we took a short test drive when it was launched, Dad jerked the car many times and was frustrated because it was too huge, i had some impressions on the cars when surfing through the net, but it did not please me when i saw it in the showroom.Plus it has turbo lag and not like other Mahindra vehicles which has good low end torque. The gears have rough rubbery feeling, M&M should look upon this matter seriously

I did not drive the vehicle because i lost the interest when my dad was struggling to drive the car. So its really no use if we buy it because he cannot drive comfortably.

So this is also out of our mind buddy, really confused.

EDIT: Quanto is a bane for short drivers really.

@Vishwas

Why this confusion amigo, close your eyes and buy Ertiga[:)].

@ Raja

Very nice and crisp review.[clap]

So far what I like in Quanto after reading the reviews and watching it in person:

1.Design: Yes folks it looks much better than ugly Xylo in person and infact the rear is very nice looking, though I don't know why those tail-lamps remind me so much of Fiat Punto.:tongue:

2. Road presence: Is very good.

3. Space and powerful diesel engine.

What I don't like:

1.Rear jump seats are useless.

2. Middle row seats are too flat almost bench like. This will heavily compromise comfort in long distance journey.

3. Body roll: I think MnM missed a trick here,if they could have tuned the suspension littler better more people would have opted for Quanto over Duster.

@Vishwas

It looks to be Quanto is like "cut paste job from scorpio, xylo, xuv" to me, because it is not impressive in any of the department and better to buy a hatch like Vista or Ritz instead.

My Ritz has more legroom and thigh support than Quanto !!
