Re: 2017 Suzuki Swift gets 3 and 4 stars ( w/safety pack) - EURONCAP

Only 3 stars without safety package, this means INDIAN market will get a 3 star product. I am not able to understand why INDIAN car buyer doesn't keep safety pack as an optional, so people who cares about there family will atleast get additional benefits at some price.

People are forgetting this is EURO NCAP, the toughest NCAP and has got revised stars system
What used to get 5 stars earlier is now getting 3 stars, this includes "better built" cars like Fiat 500,Fiat Doblo, Fiat Tipo, Toyota Hilux(Fortuner), Ford Ka(Ford Figo), Ford Mustang (2 stars not 3) etc which have also scored 3 stars in EURO NCAP

EURO NCAP takes pedestrian safety etc also into consideration hence the 3 star rating which is actually a good rating and the norm for vehicles of this class

So a 3 star EURO NCAP rating might be on par with the 5 star rating of other NCAPs like Global NCAP or Latin NCAP or even the older EURO NCAP before the revised stars system was implemented

The only cars scoring 4-5 stars are luxury segment ones

See for yourselves-

Maruti is showing signs of improvement. Atleast new cars like Ignis and Dzire are getting ABS and front airbags as standard. I think Maruti needs to provide the 6 airbag option as well. People who can afford can definitely go for it. Having said that, I am not entirely convinced by the high tensile steel claims made by Maruti. Why do companies like Tata and Fiat provide such good build if same thing can be achieved by high tensile light weight steel?

I dont think simply plonking tougher metal is the solution
While I dont entirely buy the "high tensile steel" totally, I refuse to believe in "better build" on the basis of simply tougher metal without proper tests
Whats to say, the same tougher metal wont harm occupants?? Chassis design etc matter more in my eyes and thats where Germans and Japanese follow different philosophies which work out in the same manner for the end customer

We have seen differential ratings earlier hence I doubt Indian Swift too will also get 3 star rating.
India built Swift will be tested according to the Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Program coming in late 2017. Star ratings will be awarded based on the the New Standard.

Will all cars that fail the crash test not be allowed to sell in India? Because I dont see the likes Alto,Kwid,Brio,Nano passing crash tests.

Absolutely not because you are asking Maruti/others to basically shut shop in India. By hook or crook, these cars will be sold along with other lightly built cars.

Euro NCAP is a voluntary vehicle safety rating system which originated in the UK but is now backed by the European Commission, seven European governments, as well as motoring and consumer organisations in every EU country.
It will show to the Public the star ratings and it is up to the Customer to buy or not. It will not stop a sale of vehicle if low scares are obtained.

Similar in this lines we will see safety ratings , Corporate Average Fuel Economy(CAFE) ratings in coming years.

Unlike Emission norms where government can stop a sale these ratings are an education to the prospective customer to know the type of vehicle he is purchasing.

The swift performed well in this test But the Ignis had scored 5 star with option pack recently ! Whatever this is nothing concerning for Indian customers .

We will be testing the upcoming Indian swift in BNVSAP and might be awarded with 5 star rating for 2 Airbags , ABS & EBD @56Kmph ! Irony is that the same India made swift would score only maximum 1star in the EuroNCAP !

Indian Life values lesser before European, American or Australian ?

They could counter or defend the statement by saying average speed over Indian roads are lesser ,hence 56Kmph for BNVSAP against 64kmph for other crash tests !
Or Most of the accidents in India involves two wheelers and pedestrians etc ,it's true !
But these diluted crash tests and inferior safety norms would be affecting the #MakeInIndia efforts and the Desi brands aspirations for global markets labelling them as poor unsafe Indian brands later !

Maruti Suzuki the market leader was not prepared to meet the norms , that's the real reason why we are getting these inferior norms in this late 2017 .

Has anyone bashing the Euro NCAP results actually seen the revised rules for stars?? Its much stricter than before and takes into account pedestrian safety etc...
That said, its actually an average score for its class, not bad at all
