Hi Guys,

Need your help on something. I am planning to buy second hand 14in alloys. I don't want to invest in a new 14in alloys now as i am planning to upgrade to 15in alloys once my current stock 14in tires give up (Read 50k in 2yrs). So how much will a used alloys cost? What are the issues with buying a second hand alloys?

Some of the things to check out is if the alloys have any bend? Second would be to check if the brand seller says is genuine or not.

I need all your help on this. :please:

Regards,
Sankar
Sankar, I am highly impressed with your enthusiasm to spice up your ride. About your decision of not switching to 15" seems practical, but you can try selling your stock tires on online web portal like our marketplace, and others like OLX. I am sure they will fetch you better deals.
However, if you stick to your current tires/wheels, dont think of upgrading to used wheels. You never know how the car was driven and on what terrain the wheels has to commute. If you come across a friend selling his alloys, go for them since in that case, you would be familiar with the carand there are less chances of a getting conned. Or you may try out the alloy shops for OE wheels. Usually people tend to swap their OE wheels with aftermarket ones soon after their purchase. You may get them at cheap rates and live with them till you have decided for your next upgrade.

Thanks Akash for a quick reply.

A reputed Tire and alloy shop has quoted 8k for a set of used 14" HR alloys. As per my small research HR and Lenzo alloys are more costly compared to other brands and the previous user had upgraded to 15in lenzo that the reason for selling this alloys. Does this sound like a good deal? Shipping is free at 8k and he is shipping from Indore.

8k for 14" tires souds cheap, but i wont recommend buying used alloys without physical inspection. Be informed that used wheels need to be checked for cracks, bends for chipping which is hard to notice without a physical inspection.

Then how much will 14in used alloys costs for a set of 4 alloys? The car shop owner send me pics of all four alloys and all alloys looked in good condition. The previous owner sold this alloy as he upgraded to 15in alloys.

Don't get used Alloys unless they are removed from a new car.
Any issues in buying second hand alloys that you know of?

There is hell of a diff. b/w pics and reality. If you are so desperate to buy them, then you must check them personally.
The guy seems genuine and he owns a reputed shop which own distribution of HR, Lenzo, Momo and Neo alloys. Also he is the distributor of Michelin, Pirelli, Continental and Yokohama Tires. He has send me numerous photos of the all 4 alloys. The alloys are in indore so i can't go and check the alloys personally[confused].

Any idea how much second hand alloys cost?

Akash mentioned most of the reasons due to which issues can be there.
This is the alloy i am talking about. Look pretty OK to me and the guy seems genuine. This is a HR alloy and he guarantees me it's genuine as he is the distributor for Neo, HR, Platti, Momo and Lenzo alloys. Costs of the below 8k for a set of four.

Sankar, I dont mean to scare you, but you cannot strike off the possibilities of cracks or bends without a physical inspection. Why dont you try sourcing one from a shop near your town?

I tried but failed miserably. That's why i went to source my alloys from online. I found some alloys at some shops in Trivandrum most of which were of Chinese make and of very less attractive designs.

What's your opinion on the pics of the alloys i posted? It's a HR alloy and a set of 4 alloys cost 8k. Is the cost reasonable?

Yes, cost wise, it looks fine. But do you really think the design is attractive. I personally didnt like the sleek design.
