Tata Tiago EV set to get cruise control, regen brakes

After confirming the launch date of the Tata Tiago EV, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility has confirmed quite a few features that will be available with the electric hatchback via a series of teaser images on their social media. These include multi-mode regenerative braking, cruise control and sports mode. The electric hatchback is slated for unveil on September 28 and will be the brand’s fourth electric offering after the Tata Tigor EV, Nexon EV Max and Nexon EV Prime.

Given how exclusive these features are, we’re expecting they will be available with the top-spec variant of the Tiago EV. Speaking of which, the variant list will also be confirmed when the Tiago EV debuts.

As for its features, regen braking allows users to recharge batteries while driving, and since there are several modes to it, the highest mode will allow for single-pedal driving. This feature was first introduced with the Nexon EV Max, and later on, was made available with the Nexon EV Prime as well.

The Tiago EV will be based on the Tigor EV sub-compact sedan, however, the latter misses out on cruise control. The hatchback will also get sport mode, which is not available with the electric sub-compact sedan again. The Tiago EV will also get premium leatherette seats.

The Tiago EV will carry over the same body design as seen in its ICE counterpart, with subtle tweaks in the form of new colours. As for its price, we’re expecting that the Tiago EV will be cheaper than the Tigor EV, but will command a premium over the ICE Tiago.

The bookings for Tata Tiago EV are now open. It turns out that their website slowed down due to rush for which Tata Motors has issued an apology statement.

"We are overwhelmed with the response to the Tiago.ev at our dealerships and on our website. With thousands of customers rushing to book online at the same time, the website slowed down for a bit and is restored. We regret the inconvenience to our customers. All customer enquiries and bookings related concerns are being suitably addressed. India can now go.ev with Tiago.ev." - Shailesh Chandra, MD, Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles and Tata Passenger Electric Mobility.
