Tata Motor’s pavilion was unquestionably a major center of attraction at the recent Auto Expo 2023. The automaker showcased handful of Electric Vehicles, but it’s the global premiere of almost production-ready Tata Harrier EV that garnered a massive attention. Tata Motors has still decided to maintain silence about specific information related to upcoming Tata Harrier Electric SUV. Following are some tidbits based on available sources:
  • Tata Harrier Electric will be marketed under the new “.EV” (dot-EV) sub-brand and therefore labelled as “Tata Harrier.ev”. First car to launch under this sub-brand was the Tiago.ev.
  • Similar to ICE counterpart, Tata Harrier Electric is a 5-seat monocoque SUV, engineered on the OMEGA Architecture (Land Rover D8 derivative) and developed in collaboration with Jaguar Land Rover.
  • However, what’s different is that the SUV underpins Tata’s Gen-2 EV architecture, which is much more efficient and compatible with Electric Vehicles as well as Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) models.
  • A major welcome update is the introduction of All-Wheel Drive (AWD) with a dual-motor setup. Possibly there will also be a single-motor Front Wheel Drive setup too. The battery capacity is still unknown.
  • Tata Harrier.ev will come equipped with features like vehicle-to-load (charging external devices), vehicle-to-vehicle charging (charging other electric vehicles), ADAS, 360° camera, 10.25" infotainment etc.
  • The showcased design will largely make it to the production. As a matter of fact, it could be seen much earlier on the upcoming Tata Harrier Facelift and Tata Safari Facelift (sans the EV-specific cues).
  • Tata Motors calls this particular white shade “Empowered White”. The serrated turbine blade wheels are functionally sculpted for aerodynamic efficiency. Tyres size is 245/55 R19 of make MRF Wanderer.
  • Tata Harrier.ev is confirmed to launch in India in 2024 (around festive season) with an estimated price tag of ₹25 Lakh (Ex.Showroom). We’ll keep updating this thread as and when more details are available.

Tata Harrier EV: Design details and launch timeline revealed

Harrier-EV-Clay-model.jpg

The electric division of Tata Motors, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility, has been making waves in the electric vehicle market with its new offerings in the country. Most recently, the company showcased a clay model of its highly anticipated SUV, the Harrier EV, on its official Instagram page. This latest revelation provides a glimpse of the Harrier EV’s distinctive design and futuristic appeal from the front. Additionally, in the comment section of this post, the company revealed the launch timeline for the Harrier EV.

As for the pricing and launch date, Tata Motors has remained tight-lipped. However, industry experts speculate that the Harrier EV will be competitively priced to attract a wide range of buyers. Considering its features and performance, the Harrier EV is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 30-40 Lakh. As for the launch date, Tata Motors has not provided an exact timeline yet. However, as mentioned above, the company replied to a comment on its newest post and stated that the Tata Harrier EV will be launched in India in late 2024.

Tata Harrier EV launch confirmed for FY2025

20240611023615_Tata_Harrier_ev.jpg

Tata Motors will launch two EVs in the ongoing financial year that ends on March 31, 2025, according to its latest investor day presentation. Earlier, we reported that the Curvv EV would arrive this festive season, and now, the homegrown brand has confirmed that its flagship electric SUV, the Harrier EV, would also be launched this fiscal.

Like the upcoming Curvv EV and the on-sale Punch EV, the Harrier EV will use the brand’s acti.ev architecture. While the vehicle is based on the same Land Rover-derived Omega platform used by the ICE-powered Harrier, it has been heavily re-engineered to support an electric powertrain. We expect the Harrier EV to feature a flat floor on the inside, and Tata has mentioned it’ll have vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) charging capacities.

There’s no word yet on the Harrier EV’s battery capacity or range, but we expect it to sport a 60kWh battery pack that delivers about 500km of range on a single charge. The SUV will sport an electric motor on each axle, giving it an all-wheel-drive setup.

Other details about the Harrier EV that are known include its design. The SUV concept showcased at Auto Expo 2023 was a close-to-production model, which means most of what we’ve seen – from the closed off grille area and new front and rear bumpers to the coupe-like roofline – will be on offer. Interior details, however, are scarce on the ground. Still, we expect most bits to be shared with the Harrier and Safari, along with some highlights from Tata’s current range of EVs.

When it arrives, the Harrier EV is likely to have a direct rival in the form of Mahindra’s XUV700-based XUV.e8, which is expected to join the fray before the end of this year. Harrier EV and Mahindra XUV.e8 prices are expected to start above Rs 30 lakh, ex-showroom.

It's a great blessing that I'm seeing more and more electric cars of my own making. But it is a pity that not everyone will be able to afford one.

Tata Harrier EV spotted testing showing its electric motor setup

667149ccf3432.jpg

The Tata Harrier EV was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, and then at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo earlier this year. This all-electric mid-size SUV from Tata is currently under development, and we recently got hold of new spy shots while it was being tested in Leh, India.

66714a3611ec1.jpg

The latest spy shot clearly reveals the rear-axle mounted electric motor on the Harrier EV. This suggests that the Tata Harrier EV will likely be offered with an all-wheel-drive (AWD) option, given that it gets dual electric motors, one of the front axle and the other on the rear axle.

652a2cf026f77.jpg

In terms of design, the Harrier EV will retain the same silhouette and design elements as its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart. However, the alloy wheel design will be different and specifically tailored for the EV. Based on the concept version showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo, it will feature connected LED lighting elements on both the front and rear, as well as a closed-off grille. The design of both the bumpers, however, will be adjusted to give it a more EV-specific appearance.

Though Tata is yet to reveal the battery pack and electric motor specifications for the Harrier EV, we believe it could be offered with a claimed range of over 500 km. As mentioned earlier, it will also get the option of a dual-motor all-wheel-drive (AWD) drivetrain.

The Harrier EV is expected to carry the same features as the diesel-powered Harrier. The equipment list will likely include a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a 10.25-inch digital driver's display, dual-zone automatic air conditioning, ventilated and powered front seats, wireless phone charging, panoramic sunroof (with mood lighting), and a gesture-enabled powered tailgate.

Passenger safety will be taken care of by up to seven airbags, a 360-degree camera with blind view monitor, electronic stability control (ESC), and a full suite of advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) including adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

10 notable elements in Tata Harrier EV which stand out

Tata Harrier EV is one of the most anticipated launches in India. The company has launched it at a starting price of Rs 21.49 lakh (Ex-sh) and it is Tata’s flagship electric SUV. Tata has kitted it accordingly and it packs quite a lot of new elements that are noteworthy. In this post, we have compiled 10 notable elements of the just launched Harrier EV.

1. More affordable than Harrier ICE

We have to start with pricing because Harrier EV is more affordable than Harrier ICE. It is a hard pill to swallow given the notion that EVs are pricier than ICE vehicles. However, Harrier EV starts from Adventure trim level for Rs 21.49 lakh (Ex-sh) and Harrier Diesel Adventure AT starts from Rs 22.45 lakh (Ex-sh).

2. Largest-in-segment Samsung Neo QLED Infotainment screen

tata-harrier-ev-launch-price-features-2.jpg

For the first time in mainstream Indian car segment, Tata Motors is upping the quality of display technology in infotainment field. That’s because Harrier EV packs a Neo QLED screen from Samsung, which is the largest in its segment at 14.53-inch. Also, the Quantum layer it packs, has high contrast with inky blacks and exceptional HDR performance for life-like visuals. This infotainment screen packs off-line maps by MAPPL for reassurance.

3. Self Parking & Summon mode

tata-harrier-ev-launch-price-features-19.jpg

Harrier EV packs a suite of autonomous parking features bundled as e-Valet. Under this suite, Tata is offering features like autonomous parallel parking (in and out) and autonomous perpendicular parking (in and out). Also notable are ‘anywhere parking’, remote park assist and summon mode.
