This was very much required since Harrier is too big a car for many. Size wise its even a segment above Compass. If executed and priced well could be a challenge to the mighty Creta as it virtually doesn't have any competitor. Hope Tata doesn't make it too wide.

Tata should drop plans to make honda city rival and give this one priority. By the time this one comes to the market creta will be in the next generation and prices will be even higher than the already overpriced current one. Hyundai will price their 4 meter suv higher than xuv 300, if tata price this one at that level then it's a sure shot winner but they will have to make a 1.5 petrol engine for this plus an automatic gearbox.

Finally TATA opening eyes they wanted slow SUV's price range between 5lacks to 25lacks from Hornbill to TATA H7X.

it seams like TATA-JLR working closely each other for future products with common modular parts to keep low R&D cost, a very old news says TATA planing to localise JLR's Ingenium Series engines and JLR also announced their new 1.5L 3cylinder Ingenium engine for their plug in hybrid RANGE ROVER's but its long process go in the mean time to stop gap TATA using FCA's 2.0 multijet engines.

New Tata SUV planned to fill gap between Nexon and Harrier – Sedan cancelled

tata-harrier-coupe-blue-blackbird-suv-teaser.jpg

Digitally rendered image of coupe SUV based on Harrier.

Tata Motors will be launching yet another SUV. Yes, one more SUV. A completely new SUV which will sit above the Nexon, but below the Harrier in the company line-up. Called Blackbird internally, the project has just been green signalled. And it comes at the cost of the sedan, which is now cancelled.

A Hyundai Creta-Rival Based On Tata Altroz?

Altroz will debut Tata's smallest modular platform, the ALFA-ARC.

ALFA-ARC capable of spawning small hatchbacks to compact SUVs.

The unnamed SUV will fill the gap between the Nexon and Harrier.

Will rival the likes of the Hyundai Creta, Kia SP2i, Nissan Kicks, Renault Captur/Duster as well as VW T-Cross and Skoda Kamiq.

It is expected to be priced from Rs 10 lakh.

Likely to be launched in FY 2020-21

Upcoming Tata Blackbird SUV Will Be The Rebadged Chery Tiggo 5X

tata-blackbird-chery-tiggo-1068x601.jpg

Earlier reports indicated that Tata’s mid-size SUV internally named Blackbird would be benchmarked against Chery Tiggo 5X. In contrary, our sources tell us that first product from the Chery-Tata alliance will be the rebadged version of Tiggo 5X. Thus, the Blackbird waiting to be positioned between the Nexon and Harrier will be that SUV in question.

The Tiggo 5X is based on the Chery Beta concept and it went on sale in China in H2 2017 before entering several global markets. It is essentially the sportier version of the regular Tiggo 5 and measures 4,358 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width and stands 1,670 mm in height with a wheelbase of 2,630 mm.

Nice, a few pointers:-
1. Being 4.3M in length this is same size as Creta?
2. To be positioned between Nexon and Harrier, price wise 8 to 11L.
3. The rendering looks corny.
4. The Tiggo 5X is butch, which is preferred by Indians.

This news might be not true because TATA Already stated that they working on Blackbird code SUV that is going to be built on ALFA modular platform. This is point less news source why tata go with badge engineered product after investing heavily on modular platforms.

These auto blogs have nothing to write as many companies have left they are just resorting to click bait tactics for survival.
The car will be based on tata's modular platform only.
In the past we used to get 'spy pictures' released by manufacturers when one model is ready for launch. It's above time we see 'spy pictures' of hornbill, usually it takes 2 years to launch from the time we see the first spy pictures, May be tata is going slow

It seems to be true that tata is going the Chinese route like 90% of the electric two wheeler companies here, Chinese vehicle with a made in India tag.

According to autocarindia magazine june 2019 issue, tata is evaluating using cherry's platform.

But why cant tata use alfa platform; it supports upto 18inch wheels. Or why cant tata use omega platform; anyway creta rival will cost around 18lakhs onroads.and harrier is sold at a premium price band without electric adjustable seats, rear disc brakes, and sunroof.
Why suddenly a 3rd platform!

Using a platform is not badge engineering. So relax.

BUT I dont understand one thing. TATA went all in on modular platform. And even had announced that the two platforms will (along with Tiago platform) will form the base for all future products from TATA, and now the need for third platform as it doesnt have a space for large wheel!

Who is this, sharing such details with the media!

PS: While H2x which is based on Alpha platform can have large wheels, Blackbird was supposed to be based on other platform. Now question is which one (during conception, since as per reports is a cherry platform now)

PPS: If people have like the MG (which is a rebadged Chinese product), then Cherry will be accepted with open arms too.

It shows that the platform which they were bragging about isn't what they said it would be. If even after all these years and owning some top brands they have to depend on the Chinese they better stop doing this.

SCOOP! Tata Motors, Chery may jointly develop Creta fighter
1_578_872_0_70_http___cdni.autocarindia.com_ExtraImages_20190628052004_Tata-covered-SUV-exclus...jpg

Tata Motor’s original plan was to adapt the Land Rover sourced Omega platform for a mid-size SUV but this idea was soon abandoned because downsizing the Harrier’s Omega platform wasn’t feasible as the engineering challenges and costs were proving too high. Downsizing the Omega platform (which itself is based on the Land Rover’s rather large L550 platform) to match the smaller dimensions of the H4 would have meant changing the ‘hard points’ and this, according to company sources, “would have been almost as costly as developing a new platform altogether”

The other option was to use the smaller Alfa platform, which was conceived for a family of small, front-wheel-drive vehicles of which the upcoming Altroz premium hatch will be the first. Stretching the Alfa platform beyond a four metre length is possible but our sources tell us that the big limitation is wheel size. The Alfa platform cannot support larger diameter wheels, which is key to an SUV’s appeal. For a Creta sized SUV “the wheel diameter should be at least 700mm to get the right proportions and stance” said a Tata Motors source. Sources say that the ALFA platform cannot take wheels bigger than 700mm,which works for a sub-four-metre SUV like the Nexon (which has a wheel diameter of 665mm) but not a full-size SUV.

The lack of overlap between the Alfa and Omega platforms has exposed a gaping hole in Tata Motors’ two-platform strategy which can’t accommodate 4.0 -4.5 metre long SUVs. Investing in a third platform to fill this space isn’t an option because the volumes in the mid-size SUV segment are not big enough to justify the huge development costs.

Hence, sharing platforms with Chery makes sense for Tata Motors as the Chinese automaker has a wide range of products from the the Tiggo 2 to the Tiggo 5 that span the core of the mid-size SUV segment where Tata Motors is absent. It’s not clear which of Chery’s platforms Tata Motors is evaluating for the Blackbird but in terms of dimensions, the one that underpins the 4338mm long Tiggo 4 seems best suited. Tata and Chery will each build their own ‘top hats’ off this shared platform to differentiate their products from the other, but will also use a common set of underpinnings like the same chassis, suspension and power trains which should result in substantial cost savings.
