@ gears: damping is done on the doors to filter out the exterior noise so that you can enjoy your music more & also to filter out the vibrations of the door panels caused by high end speakers & subwoofers.
damping sheets are available by many brands such as noise kill, dynamat, etc.

yes gears, damping does help if you are that keen on a perfect sound. rates vary & it can cost you around Rs. 5k for full car damping which includes all doors & boot.

Does damping help when we install powerfull ICE or does it help to reduce the rattles of the car during normal driving when ICE is not in use. in one sentence - is damping a part of ICE installation, or general car modification?
@ rijish: its basically a part of ICE but it also helps in reducing rattles to some extent & also reduces outer noise inside the cabin.
Does the damping help in preventing the music sound going out. In many cars, with door speakers, the music is heard outside. Can we avoid this??
to an extent yes. but with high end systems, no matter what you do, at high volume the music will creep out!

When installing a Hi-End ICE in the car this stuff becomes mandatory,by skipping this you will invite alots of rattling and distortion in the Sound Quality of music in the car.

The basic funda to do damping sound dreadning is to get more cleaner sound from your speakers/subwoofers.
Again just by doing damping does not mean i will remove the rattling sound,one should install it properly with a roller or heat-gun or it will fall from the place in like 4-6months.
Application:Clean the surface area where the damping is needed,just use the heat gun and blow some warm air over the affected area,peel the damping sheet.Apply it and press it like a sticker and use a roller or roll a cloth and press it with your hands and apply heat gun let it get cool and DONE!!!
