bhaveshce - That is the problem.

Which sensible enthusiast would use high beam when there is oncoming traffic? I seriously hope you are not one of those. [:)]
I never use high beam in city area and only uses when requires on highway for small duration or just to ask on coming traffic to switch to low beam. [:)]. But the question is how many sensible drivers on the road? [evil] I believe very less. That is bitter truth.

I have seen lots of people on the road (especially in city) who switch on their high beam continuously. So when there is white light on high beam it really irritates and unbearable. That is my personal experience. Most of the people doesn't have much knowledge about various lights (LED, HID, Projector lamp) and about the wattage or illumination. People just wants white light and that is what they told to mechanic to just replace stock bulb with white light however I am not saying that everybody is like that but majority of them are like that. I have seen many people in my city with high beam on.

Actually I meant, HID projector Setup. Is there only HID installation without projector? Well, I wasn't aware of it until now. Even if its there, how would be its effect? and why wouldn't people opt HID instead of highwattage bulbs? after-all HID generates less heat.
Ofcourse you can install Hid's without projector's. You should go for Hid without projector's in Fog lights only. If you use in headlights it'll blind on coming Driver!! It's very easy to install Hid's.
2 : why people won't go for hid's : because Hid's are costly and hard to find good Hid's for low price in india!!.

HID without projector is easily possible. Just like you did with Fogs.
However without the shaping and glare reduction effect of a projector, HID is useless. The Light will be going everywhere and your headlight will look something like floodlights being used in parties/ Lawns! This will naturally annoy oncomers and attract cops too!

You are 100% True about HID heat. It extends the life of Battery, Wiring, Lens, Reflector etc due to less heat and less wattage in long run.

Yes, thats what I though. No body would fit HIDs without projectors on headlight and thats the reason I didn't know even if its possible. HID is very bright hence requires projectors to focus light to a given spot. No problem with HIDs alone installation in fog lights because that focuses to ground only. Of course, it wouldn't be helpful in fog due to high Kelvin, like ice_wise told.

Its not just expensive mod for some people but also fitting is difficult and good if done by professionals only. I say this because one of my friend got HID projector installed to his Bike but the installer didn't properly sealed the lens, that resulted water to entering inside headlight housing. Several visits to different repair shops didn't solve the issue. Later he bought new headlights and used stock bulbs.

I searched for butyl sealant for him but couldn't find one within India. I would helped him with different sealants but he lives far from me.

Hi guys,
I have a 2005 Esteem and it runs on a 100/90 Philips ordinary bulb coupled with a Hella Relay, but due to the heat the whole headlight unit turned out to be a mess and the plastics became brittle and had lots of water condensation and also water. So I had to change the headlamp unit which set me back by around Rs.3800 for a pair of MGP headlights.

Now that I have changed the whole headlight unit, I want to stick back to the stock 12v 60/55 without the relays.
My doubt is will the Philips Crystal vision bulbs emit the same amount of heat that a 100/90 would produce and ruin my headlamp assembly like before? Or should I just stick to a normal Philips 60/55 to retain the looks of my new headlights?
PS. My Polo runs on osram night breakers 60/55 for 4 years now and the headlight unit does not show any fault. Please advise.

heat of the bulbs is related to wattage
so if Philips Bulbs are 55/60w the heat will be less than 90/100.

the best upgrade will be to go with HID with projectors in 4300k.

Hey fellow TAIgers, I require new foglamps + headlights for my Innova for highway use

Current setup has a really poor output chinese blue foglamps(one of which cracked mysteriously) and stock headlights

My concerns are reliability, rain/fog conditions etc

Should I go for projector headlamps with 4300k for headlight? Or simply 4300k Phillips CV bulbs + wiring in stock form?

And what about fogs, should I buy stock halogens +assembly ? OR buy product like XP Micro 4300K?

Im pretty noob at automotive lighting

I dont require >4300K from what I see and I dont want stock yellow halogens anymore

Needs to be versatile for highway use in rains/fogs

Local shops say Rs 6.5K and another says Rs12k and neither understood headlamp focusing [cry][frustration]

Any help is greatly appreciated

Buddy the proper method would be to retrofit Bi-xenon Projector along with 4300k HID kit. The whole setup will cost 20~25k and requires a very expert installer to get proper fit and alignment. Otherwise its a can of worms.

Other option is to get new OEM fog lamps (Which have proper cutoff) and install 35w 4300K HID kit. They work like second low beams on the highway. But do not use in city.

Hey BHVMji, thanks for your reply !

I saw some shops reviews on team bhp near my house, should I give them a try?

Also if I go for the fogs option you mentioned, will they be effective in rain/fog conditions too??

And for headlamps, is Phillips CV 4300K H4 bulbs + wiring good enough?

You may try those shops but in my view, they are often ill informed.
Since Innova uses H4 bulbs i believe, you have below options-
1. Install OEM fogs (not hella fogs!) and stuff em with HID. If you travel more in Fog and rain, you can get 3000k Tint which penetrates fog better.
2. Install LED headlamp bulbs-

3. Go for projector retrofit.

Philips CV bubs will not require wiring change unless you up the wattage.
