Loses all its old world charm and character.

Suits Mahindra, in a way.

This ensures greater sales of Thar, overseas.

Jaguar Land Rover to end European production of Defender model

jlr1.jpg

Great Britain's great off-roader will be ending production in 2015, 67 years after it started rolling out of factories. And although that name "Defender" has only been in use since 1990, the vehicle that's worn it and its rough-and-tumble, rural nature can be traced all the way back to the original Series I Land Rover, from 1948.

The last of the models will roll off the production line at the company's Solihull factory in the West Midlands.

The company has taken the decision to halt the model in response to the tougher environmental and emissions laws across the world.

Jaguar Land Rover, however, is preparing a new successor, which will feature a sporty beach-buggy style. A prototype successor was introduced at the Los Angeles motor show.

A Jaguar Land Rover spokesman confirmed that the production of Defender will stop at the end of 2015.

To pay their respects, JLR drew a giant outline of the SUV in the sand at Red Wharf Bay in Anglesey, Wales- the place where the model was first imagined by Maurice & Spencer Wilks in 1947. Six Defenders drew the outline by driving with 12-foot agricultural harrows attached to them.

But the British company has confirmed the consideration of overseas production. Any continuation would see low volume production maintained for selected fleets and special vehicle applications for sale outside the EU.

Next-generation Land Rover Defender SPIED testing with new body

2020-Land-Rover-Defender-Spyshot-1.jpg

The next-generation Land Rover Defender has just inched a step closer to production. A new test mule of the off- roader has been spied testing with a new body. What this also means is that the next-gen Defender has finally ditched the Range Rover body that it has been testing with for many months now.

New 2020 Land Rover Defender: interior spied

land-rover-defender-1.jpg

These are our first interior spy shots of the new Land RoverDefender and they give us our best indication yet of the new model’s cabin design. They come in the wake of a sneaky instrument binnacle snapshot, which detailed the new SUV’s exterior styling in full, months ahead of the car’s planned launch date.

Technology-wise, the new Defender’s interior will take a big step up over that of its predecessor, with a large central screen and a digital instrument binnacle, much like the system fitted to the latest Land Rover Discovery. Like the old model, the Defender will retain its chunky, practical heater controls and traditional rotary volume knob.

2020 Land Rover Defender Spotted Testing At The Nurburgring Circuit

The Land Rover Defender is an SUV meant for the outdoors and not really expected to be a pro on a race track. However, Land Rover is probably aiming to make the upcoming Defender more versatile. The latest spy shots suggest that the British automaker is working to make the next-generation Defender more stable on the road as well. A test mule of the 2020 Defender was spotted testing at the Nurburgring circuit and this time it has been spotted with a little less camouflage.

2020 Land Rover Defender Spotted Testing In India

lf1g73pg_land-rover-defender-suv-spotted-in-india-_625x300_28_October_19.jpg

After making its global debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the new-generation Land Rover Defender SUV has now reached our shores. Recently, a pre-production model of the off-road SUV was spotted testing in India, and like the global test mules, this one too was heavily camouflaged. While we already know what the SUV looks like, the fact that the new-gen Defender has been spotted here further indicates that the iconic moniker will finally come to India. However, we do not expect the SUV to be launched any time before the second half of 2020.

Land Rover Defender Coming To India In June 2020

The all-new Land Rover Defender has been taking the world by storm. The second generation Defender recently also made its debut in the United States - a whole 22 years after safety regulations had it go off the market in 1997. It appears that the Tata Motors owned Jaguar Land Rover has an imminent hit on its hands as the new car is creating a lot of buzz; and is already in high demand in markets the world over. And now we can confirm the car will come to India in June 2020. Hot on the heels of its market debut in the US, India too will get the Defender model line in the same order as America. Yes the Defender will arrive - first in its 110 or long wheelbase avatar. The shorter Defender 90 will follow that, six months later - in December 2020. This has been confirmed to carandbike by a source at the company's UK headquarters.

New 2020 Land Rover Defender: full details, specs and pics

01_32.jpg

The design and engineering teams at Land Rover had an unenviable task when setting out to create a new Defender. The model had been at the heart of the brand ever since it was the basis for the firm’s creation in 1948. And while production of the ‘original’ Land Rover ended in 2016, Jaguar Land Rover boss Ralf Speth called it “the saddest moment of my life”.

02_31.jpg

The car in our pictures is a 110, the five-door version of the new model. The three-door 90 will come later in 2020 while, if leaked internal documents are to be believed, a longer 130 model with extra load capacity beyond the sixth and seventh seats, is in the pipeline.

06_27.jpg

The engine line-up comprises two petrols, one with mild-hybrid technology, and a couple of diesels. The P300 is the regular four-cylinder petrol, with 296bhp, while the bigger sellers are likely to be the D200 (197bhp) and D240 (237bhp) diesels. The hybrid is the P400, which has a straight-six turbocharged and supercharged petrol engine.

The new Defender is unrecognisable when it comes to technology. A suite of driver-assistance systems, connectivity features and infotainment displays makes it one of the most technologically advanced models Land Rover has ever produced. There’s also a new remote app which allows owners to pre-condition the Defender via a smartphone. Here are the tech highlights.

Sharing some breathtaking images of New Defender shot in the movie No Time To Die.

Land Rover’s television commercial for the new Defender demonstrates its capability on tough terrain. The commercial features an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at what to expect from the new Defender in No Time To Die.

The rehearsal footage included in the advert shows the new Defender launching into the air.

The Defenders are put to further extreme tests as the vehicle is driven at top speeds through swamps and rivers.

The chase sequence in the No Time To Die was led by stunt coordinator, Lee Morrison working alongside Oscar winner and special effects, action vehicles supervisor Chris Corbould.

Lee Morrison stated: “We pushed the Defender further than we believed possible to generate the maximum excitement, and to give fans an insight into the uncompromising challenge of producing an incredible chase sequence which you can look forward to seeing in No Time To Die.”

Nick Collins, Land Rover Defender vehicle line director said: “We developed a new test standard for Defender, the most challenging we’ve ever had and unique to this vehicle. Physical strength and durability is measured by a number of different tests including a bridge jump test which gave us confidence to deliver what the stunt team needed to create for No Time To Die, with no modifications to the body structure except the installation of a roll cage.”

Putting these vehicles through their paces was the inspirational Jessica Hawkins, who Morrison handpicked from the Formula 3 W Series after spotting her potential and he wasted no time in giving her the opportunity to feature in No Time To Die, her first ever motion picture. Jessica commented: “It doesn’t get any more exhilarating than being a stunt driver in a James Bond movie and it’s an honour to be a part of this incredible movie driving the new Defender. ”
