I can bet that this is my favorite post on this entire forum.
I drove one which was delivered just a week back to someone in my far circle, and was actually amongst the first lot. Diesel top end 4x2.
That's like comparing an 'orange' to an 'apple', just because both are round. IMO Creta is only cheaper, else Compass s VFM but Creta feels overpriced - huge difference bwteeen what one offers for the money they ask for.
I won't agree at all over the clutch point. This was the first thing I highlighted to Vibhor (350Z) that clutch was just awesome and very progressive too, in fact I have fallen a victim of its releasing action, it felt so good and well damped.
Put everything aside and tell me which dealer gave you the TD?
Please give an example, and not something that's read in a magazine or seen in a video.
So basically any personal views here is frowned upon?
Creta feels more spacious and suspension is softer , excellent for taller people like me who have frequent back pain
Headroom at the rear is pretty poor in Compass....
I drove the petrol one in USA, not here, I didnt know the one there was 2.4 Multi Air with Aisin box not 1.4 Multi Air with DCT which is coming here until I cross checked recently
Clutch point is too high and I didnt like it much, its a lot like VAG clutches, so thats why you must like it so much, I personally didnt like it coming from years of driving cars with the 1.3MJD, I know my Fiat engines well.
As for calling Creta overpriced and Compass VFM, thats purely subjective and not true given Compass lacks interior space, quality of plastics feels tacky and cheap in some places especially near AC vents, design reminded me of the Duster but alot better of course
Why is Creta overpriced if for 18L on road, you get 6 airbags variant with 6 speed manual and a refined well established engine in India (1.6 CRDI) OR slighly lesser equipped 1.6 CRDI with 6 speed torque converter AT
Whereas base compass offers basically nothing for 17L and the 22L petrol AT variant doesnt get 6 airbags , diesel top end manual variant is 25L on road which is coming close to Hyundai Tucson territory (28L on road GLS AT variant) which is a clear segment above
I took extensive TDs of all cars in my price range including Hexa, Fortuner, Endeavour, GLA, Tucson, BMW X1, Audi Q3 and waited for the Jeep compass before I made my booking for the Tucson
For someone looking for something between the Creta and Tucson, the Compass certainly makes sense because its slotted that way
Theres nothing VFM or Overpriced about anything
Also Compass is based off the Fiat 500L monocoque platform not the older Jeep platforms and 4x4 variants are not only more expensive but also only available in only diesel variant
Lastly Jeep is a last resort effort from FCA after not having a showroom in a market like Mumbai for nearly 3 years until last year, no new launches and they were busy selling 2015 stock until recently
Whats to say they wont pull a Chevrolet? Im one of the unfortunate victims of Chevy's exit
And after sales? only 48 in the country
Jeep isnt exactly known for its reliability abroad either and has yet to prove itself
Also DCT is a poor choice for the Indian market, the AISIN torque converter would have fared better here
Also the upcoming ZF9 is a controversial one
FYI AISIN and ZF8 are also used by BMW , Jaguar etc and didnt have such instances
I do like the Compass overall and Im seriously considering it as my next car after my Tucson arrives but I have considered clear pros and cons before posting
