Hi Sagar, thanks for the response. Yes, I agree Polo is a car with better handling but has few issues which is irritating at times and after sales service is useless, here in Bangalore service people are not up to the mark
Sumeet:
Regarding the Verna 1.4, yes, I agree the 2nd gear is poor but there is a trick to this. The car's power is at the higher revv band as in papers 107bhp is at 6500 rpm. As the car is smooth, we tend to shift the gear very early as it doesn't knock at higher gear and low speed, this is the culprit.
I tried revving it and I must say, it flies at higher revv band, behaves much matured. 1st gear revv it to 3000 rpm, change to 2nd and move it to 3500 rpm, shift to 3rd at 3500-4000 rpm, change to 4th at around 80km/hr, keep 4th gear till 120-130, change to 5th and you will cross the 150 mark in no time!! It feels good to revv this car, there is a revving sound you will get after 3000 rpm, that is fine, it will go much beyond that as on papers 107 bhp is at 6500 rpm. If your car is new, wait for 1st service. I couldn't hold myself after 750kms and started revving it a bit and I feel good to drive now.
I also noticed if I change the gears too soon to higher gears at low speed, efficiency is not good so revv it around 3000 rpm.
Regarding suspension, my car is August 2014 make so the suspensions are high, i don't like too high suspension as it compromises the stability but trust me on bad roads, it doesn't scrape the bottom at all so it's good in some way but the high speed stability is better in Polo though it takes longer to reach 140km/hr.
I do agree on hilly region the torque is not enough.
I still have not fixed alloys, I will try the Plati alloy with 35mm offset and 6.5j width, it might sit inside the fender according to my technical calculations. Also as the rim width is more, the tyres will spread out and the road grip and stability should improve.
The steering feel is also improving day by day, it's more solid now.
Due for 1st service coming week and it's hit 1150 kms. Will post more about how the car behaves in next few hundred kms.
