Hi Sumeethyd

Try to move to 2nd gear at 1500-2000 rpm you wont feel the lag IMO.
I have used this way to overcome lag!
About efficiency it will improve post 5k

Wish you happy miles and enjoy your ride.1.4 version is VFM [clap]

Hi Sagar, thanks for the response. Yes, I agree Polo is a car with better handling but has few issues which is irritating at times and after sales service is useless, here in Bangalore service people are not up to the mark

Sumeet:
Regarding the Verna 1.4, yes, I agree the 2nd gear is poor but there is a trick to this. The car's power is at the higher revv band as in papers 107bhp is at 6500 rpm. As the car is smooth, we tend to shift the gear very early as it doesn't knock at higher gear and low speed, this is the culprit.
I tried revving it and I must say, it flies at higher revv band, behaves much matured. 1st gear revv it to 3000 rpm, change to 2nd and move it to 3500 rpm, shift to 3rd at 3500-4000 rpm, change to 4th at around 80km/hr, keep 4th gear till 120-130, change to 5th and you will cross the 150 mark in no time!! It feels good to revv this car, there is a revving sound you will get after 3000 rpm, that is fine, it will go much beyond that as on papers 107 bhp is at 6500 rpm. If your car is new, wait for 1st service. I couldn't hold myself after 750kms and started revving it a bit and I feel good to drive now.
I also noticed if I change the gears too soon to higher gears at low speed, efficiency is not good so revv it around 3000 rpm.
Regarding suspension, my car is August 2014 make so the suspensions are high, i don't like too high suspension as it compromises the stability but trust me on bad roads, it doesn't scrape the bottom at all so it's good in some way but the high speed stability is better in Polo though it takes longer to reach 140km/hr.
I do agree on hilly region the torque is not enough.
I still have not fixed alloys, I will try the Plati alloy with 35mm offset and 6.5j width, it might sit inside the fender according to my technical calculations. Also as the rim width is more, the tyres will spread out and the road grip and stability should improve.
The steering feel is also improving day by day, it's more solid now.
Due for 1st service coming week and it's hit 1150 kms. Will post more about how the car behaves in next few hundred kms.

Hi,
thanks for the input on handling the 2nd gear issue, its not even 1 month to my car so i am avoiding revving it up till 6500.
i also wanted opinion on one more thing. i happened to open the bonut of car on couple of occasion (puja and removing the ribbon) as soon as i open i felt alot of heat in engine, and i had merely drove 5-6 kms. is that much heat normal.

thanks

Congrats for your new car!. As long the heat gauge stays max in the middle, you should not worry about heat inside the bonnet. That's normal for all car. If the temperature gauge (in your car's speedo console-MID) shows bars more than the half mark, then it's a concern and you need to check with ASS.

Happy driving!

Guys, I checked the offset of the original hyundai verna alloys, it's 52mm - 100% confirmed, saw it myself.
The plati alloys are only 35mm offset and also rim width is 6.5j compared to stock 6j. So, none of the aftermarket alloys have so much offset, it will always come out of the fender. You can check it yourself in the below link before you try to put any aftermarket alloys. Stock alloys are 100 pcd, 6.5j, 52mm offset.

You will get similar figures. You can improve the mileage by driving sedately in very less pressure on the accelerator.
I did the same and mileage went up by 2 kmpl. You can get 13-14 kmpl depending on the traffic

Hi Satyajeet,

Congrats for new ride!!

Mileage will increase after 5k kms when engine starts revving freely.
Also it depends on lot of factors like
1. Air pressure. Use nitrogen if possible
2. How many frequent engine start and stop in city drive
3. Amount of Bumper to bumper traffic in total city drive.Total avg km/hr in Mid is good for reference
4. Quality of fuel/pump
5. Driving style.one should change gears at 2200 rpm

My drive is 25 km/hr in Hinjewadi traffic and I get 12 to 14 kmpl with ease.
Enjoy your ride [:)]

Thank you sagar for reply and suggestions.

2day i am driven my car on highway first time, from nagpur to chandrapur. Its shows 18.5 to 19.1 kmpl mileage consistently in AC.

When i calculate, its gave 17.8 kmpl.

M expecting max 15 kmpl on highway because in city its always show 10 to 10.5 kmpl.

Now I'm feeling very happy.

On steep slopes what I observed is, if you shift to 1st gear then it climbs very slowly and then if you press accelerator then high sound comes from engine, so you shift to second but in second it strains engine, you feel like it won't climb and you have to shift back to 1st again. How do you overcome these issue in Verna 1.4 petrol ?

In any petrol car- When in steep incline revv the car in 1st gear upto 3k rpm, shift to 2nd revv it to 2.5-3k rpm, shift to 3rd ,then the vehicle will move without fuzz, the engine noise will be high only for gear 1,and it won't do any harm to engine,as if you shift early or if you are in a taller gear vehicle response will be sluggish.

yes I understand, but my point is in Verna 1.4 issue is more, when I drive on the same incline with other cars such as Alto, Getz they don't have this problem, they move smoothly in 2nd gear, I never have to shift back to 1st.

This is mainly due to Verna is having very short gear ratios (1st and 2nd gear) which means you have to shift to next gear asap or else engine will become noisy and there wont be any surge above 3000 rpm in these 2 gears. 3rd, 4th and 5th is tall.

Another reason is for car of this size, 1.4 engine is avg but I wont say under powered as it still makes 107 bhp and truely shines on highway.

Enjoy your ride [clap]
