Re: Finally I Bought a Car, Nope its an SUV, the 'New Generation Mahindra Scorpio S10

A quick visit to the service centre update. I was up for a 4.5K km trip, hence the visit.

1. Spare type condition + TPMS showing blank for spare
2. Wiper blades change

1. I had not checked the spare tyre for a long time. Hence wanted to check if everything is fine. Checked & found pressure / condition fine. The TPMS reading were showing '--' for Temperature/Pressure. But the main reading was showing 'OK' for all tyres. No charges for the TPMS fixing.

2. Hadn't changed them for the last 2 years (almost, 2 yrs on 25/10). It was due 2-3 months ago itself. I kept forgetting to change them. Didn't want to go for Bosch, just yet. 1K dent to the pocket.

A bit disappointed with the waiting time & initial responses. But after persisting with my opinions, got the issue resolved. Went to Chrome Motors at 845am (my bad). Had to wait till 915am before the attendants came in (usual time though). Lucky I had not read the newspaper that day at home. Initially they said they will relearn the TPMS. I had told them that either the battery is gone / sensor is gone. TPMS relearnt in vain. Since this is a small job & the day before the Deepavali, everyone was busy with other works. Mine kept getting postponed. They said this is the way it is supposed to function. Only running tyres will have the reading. I told them I have seen the readings always. Only recently, I can't remember when, it wasn't appearing. Finally, the spare tyre was brought down & tested. Sensor was fine. Battery was fine. The attendant said it could be the position of the sensor (not sure what he meant). They cleaned up everything, fitted it & relearnt TPMS. Voila, it started working again. It was 1230pm when I got the gate pass!

Unconventional issues, the service centre folks are a bit tedious to handle! Anyway, all is well that ends well. Have been servicing there for the last 2 years (and 30K kms). As a token of thanks, I ordered them some sweets online to be delivered today. The same set of mechanics (know me well) are handling the car for the last 2 years.

Yesterday went for a drive around Bangalore, as family was very bored. Chamarajpet - Magadi Road - Magadi - Huliyuradurga - Maddur - Kengeri - Chamarajpet. 180+ kms. 4+ hrs.

Interesting result on the mileage. Drool all you can... Real world mileage is between 12-14kmph on highways. I don't ride much in the city, so no idea on the city mileage.

In youtube find mahindra diy. You will find how to do tpms learning.
I did the same after replacing valve stems.
You have to keep press the mode button and start the vehicle. Tpms learning mode will be entered. Release the air in all the tyres in clockwise direction starting from front left and finally the spare tyre. After learning top up the air. Thats it.

TPMS learning didn't help (by me as well as at the service centre), Prasanna. I think the issue was probably the battery leak / some mud / rust gotten between the battery touch points of the sensor. And hence it wasn't communicating the readings. Once they cleaned everything & reassembled the whole thing, it started working.

Completed a 7-day trip to Bhopal & surrounding places. The car performed without a hitch.

A few photographs of the beast at various locations. A photoshoot was pending for the last 2 years!!

Missed to capture the 33333 km mark. Was busy navigating Mandu to Highway & forgot about it. Thought at-least capture the 34567 kms sequence numbers, in consolation!

Gave it to 3M Car Care for cleaning external + internal. And voila, the beast is new again!

Observations during this trip were:
1. Car was phenomenal to drive between Bangalore - Buti Bori, in a single day. Cruise all day long (between 100-120), engine performs beautifully.
2. Car's comfort (especially front seats) is excellent. I wasn't tired at all @ 730pm when we reached Buti Bori. In fact, we were roaming around & visited 3-4 hotels before finally settling in Royal Regency.
3. Had to endure a longish 15+ hrs drive from Mandu - Dhamnod - Dhule - Malegaon - Manmad - Shirdi - Ahmednagar (through the town) - Shirur - Nhavare - Supe - Nira - Lonand - Wathar - Satara. Especially from Shirur to Satara took me 6+ hrs. Car performed amazingly well in those horrible road conditions + night driving.

beast is looking good.
Maharashtra road conditions are pathetic other than major highways. Interior roads in MP are actually better than Maharastra. I had the same experience in 2015. roads near buti bori bypasses were strictly tractor class but we somehow managed in i10 without any hits!

Re: Finally I Bought a Car, Nope its an SUV, the 'New Generation Mahindra Scorpio S10

A bit bad news.

I slept off at the wheel while driving from Bangalore - Pondicherry. Accident report in the accidents thread.

The vehicle has done 35K kms now. I don't think I will be driving long distances any more often.

Welcome your comments on the accident thread. Click here for the link. www.theautomotiveindia.com/forums/road-safety-driving-sense/32-pictures-videos-automobiles-involved-accidents-287.html#post554285

I need some advice on whether to repaid the old chassis / order a new one. Both are covered in insurance. But suggestions welcome.

A few photos from the mechanic.

Don't let the hurt your Mood. Things happen. Thankfully you are safe and there was no one else on the road. Earlier I with thinking to tell you about chasis replacement, But seeing the pics, I am relieved.

Most of the damage seems to be taken by wheels and suspension. But photos only reveal so much. Your mechanic should know better what to do. Chasis replacement is a can of worms and for these techy-gizmo and complicated mahindras, various rattles and niggles start appearing. I think FULL suspension replacement should do the trick.

P.s- Its nice to see that car is still standing despite 2 broken alloys (the rear one esp is quite bad) and lucky that you were driving a heavy SUV. God know what might have happened in a Hatch/Sedan with smaller wheels.

Sad to hear this. thindivanam-pondy highway is one of my fav track. Hope your insurance covers most of the expenses.
And don't let your mood off. Being a regular tourer almost nobody can keep his car in top shape without any body repairs done at least once. This kinda accidents will boost your confidence in driving later. When i was a beginner level driver , my car has been rear ended by a bus at a signal stop. i had my first semester exam on that day. Its an unforgettable day and it took me a week to get back my mood.
.
I don't know if the damaged parts are needed to be repaired or replaced. But, since you are covering the losses in insurance if you had a chance for repair and as well as replacement, then do the replacement. Because , your car just clocks 35k odo and it can cover many more miles without any breakdowns.

Thanks mate. I have to drive the car to see what I am up to. Yes, brunt of the impact is taken by the wheels & suspension. I did consult my cousin (who owns a service centre in Chennai) & then he spoke to the mechanic in Schangalaya. We are going ahead with the existing chassis itself. They will try to do heat treatment to remove the bend. If all alignments / measurements are fine, they will go ahead with the same.

Yes, God knows what would have happened if I had hit the dividers if I was driving a sedan/hatch.

One my favorites too. Hopefully I will recover enough to enjoy the same again. Yes, ICICI Lombard insurance covers all. Just renewed it 15-20 days earlier! Yet to hear the final cost ( and my portion). Currently, the damages to the chassis seem to be minimal, except for a bend (as mentioned in the photos). The structural integrity seem to be fine. Chassis replacement (unlike factory fitted + tested), these mechanics might not be well qualified to do so. Hence wanted to avoid as much as possible & luckily the damages too are minimal.

Thanks for all the concerns.

Updates on th beast?
Hi bhvm, The beast is back in action since 27th Dec. It took the workshop almost 45+ days (chiefly waiting for parts). I was waiting for the pics-of-the-replaced-parts from the surveyor to update the thread, with little more details.

On the first test drive, there was a bit of left pulling. Got it rectified before delivery. Both new wheels rims+tyres are in the front (even though front left & rear left had to be replaced).

Suspension - Looks fantastic, as usual, along with the bumpiness at slower speeds.
Brakes - Looks good as well.

Did the Pondy-Bangalore trip (380kms, first one post the accident), doesn't look like the incident affected my confidence.

Two sore points though:
1. Clutch - Had to be replaced at my cost. Claims wear & tear. Most likely, after the accident (while moving the vehicle, as it was stranded on the middle of the highway) + mechanics moving the vehicle to-and-from the yard to line, must have got it worn down.
2. The door painting jobs were considered outside the accident. And only 50% of the painting jobs were reimbursed.

Will post the full details, a bit later.

Re: Finally I Bought a Car, Nope its an SUV, the 'New Generation Mahindra Scorpio S10

A quick update. Odo is at 36K+.

After the accident (in Nov), the beast hasn't been utilized much. Busy schedules, local holidays (unable to travel long due no combo leaves for all family), etc. No loss of confidence or as such. So I was in peace with myself.

Did a round trip 700-km Bangalore-Chennai-Bangalore on Saturday. Apart from a bouncy ride (a bit in excess to my liking), everything is well & fine. Brakes are good. Suspension & brakes were the major repairs done.

An average mileage of 14+ in this trip. Round trip of 700kms with 42l (full tank) + ~7l(Rs 500/- diesel). Not bad. Usual speeds of 80-110 most of the way.

Unfortunately couldn't get photos of the replaced parts, still waiting. Damn surveyors.

Some minor issues I have observed & had to be checked at the 40K service.
1. Right rear window button broke. Unpredictable behavior (even when operated from driver's door panel).
2. One of the benches (2nd/3rd row) has started making noises when taken on speedbreakers / potholes slowly.
3. The dashboard panel backlights are always on. Usually they are on only when I switch on lights/parking lights.
4. TPMS re-learning not done properly. Console unable read sensors from the left front / rear tyres. Hence TPMS warning lights are on.
5. Not sure why, the 4WD High Light is always ON as well. Mine is a 2WD! The service centre folks (Kirumambakkam, near Pondicherry) did some screw ups probably.

Re: Finally I Bought a Car, Nope its an SUV, the 'New Generation Mahindra Scorpio S10

A quick update. Odo is at 38K. Nothing much happening, due to exams / business trips. Looking forward to summer for a few trips when school holidays start.

In the meanwhile, like a stupid, while parking the vehicle for washing / cleaning, got too close the compound wall & the result is a big scratch! Everyone in the neighborhood felt pitiful & constantly asking about it! Cursing myself big time. A few pics of the same. For now, I have just left it like that.
