raj,
i felt overwhelmed to see you are going for punto with conscious mind.if it is 90hp then even further !!

me too was in same dilemma regarding ass.
but hoping that there wont be such major issues with parts in the long run.

as you have already td the punto 90 hp, at least for you conviction let me put my honest words. these are my own feelings so highly subjective.

the first gear is not at all useless rather it is great boon while one is stuck on steep road or on steeper side of bump. believe me the car wont shut off (it never did with me yet) - a wise decision from fiat for india.
while most of other cars struggle with not so much torquey first gear. i often see the car in front stuck at railway crossings steep gate entries but never with punto.

today i was in city for whole day around 75kms total i did not feel tired or bored- thanks to great acc, heartfelt steering and good torque.

only for this thread today i did a 0-100 dash in my punto with my brother. twice it gave 15.3/15.2 secs approx in mobile with two person, just a casual sh road. the car is not sluggish as we may think, it have a tremendous of pull beyond 2100 rpm but, is uniform and very linear so if one utilise it in third gear or fourth it becomes highly desirable. but that i believe is coded through ecu program so if somebody is ready to fiddle with it, then there is plethora of options.

this car from fiat has very different kind of attitude which looks very awkward and weird in beginning but after getting used to it ,the feeling comes that we were very very wrong at first place.
mine is clocking at 2900km and it is becoming a different car altogether. especially the sound which is getting muted with that throaty grunt. the typical diesal clatter is fading, making punto more and more addictive to be driven.

end of the day i would like to recall that european cars and japanese cars have lot of dissimilarities in every respect but incidently italian cars remain alone in one court against rest of the european and east asian cars.
ps: i have come to a point where i am being forced to believe fiat engineers were not just dumbs or idiot to ignore those sudden pickups but i feel they proved more intelligent to provide better useable car.

Thanks a lot friends. But Tata-Fiat dealers are acting strange.

Those who, till yesterday, were saying that the car is readily available & waiting period is only 10 days, are suddenly telling me that white 90 hp punto is not available & waiting period is a month!!!

Try calling some other dealer and check the availability.
The one month is normal in case they don't have stock.

Cheap tricks, i assume.

When it is confirm that, one is potential customer dealers turn head over heels.

No wonder. A usual exercise in indian market.

I was also told that it would take more than a month as they are out of stock. but when i told them, with so much waiting period i am not buying it they bought a fresh special one within 2 weeks from pune. My condition was i did not book it at first place and told them if not within two weeks i will go for something else. lol.

Thanks a lot guys. Finally I booked a white punto today.

Make : Fiat
Model : Punto
Variant : 90 hp (Emotion Pack)
Fuel : Diesel
Booking Date : 11/1/11
Color : Bossa Nova White
Expected Delivery Date : 27/1/11
Dealer & City : Wasan Motors, Mumbai
Freebies : Free extended warranty + Roadside Assistance + Floor Mats (I refused mud flaps which were offered)
Others : Cash discount of Rs. 13,000

I got the cheapest offer from Wasan & hence I booked the car from there. Accessories purchased were scuff plates (Rs. 380) & reverse sensor (Rs. 5000). But i forgot the ask whether the sensors would be body coloured or black! If its black, I would cancel the reverse sensors.

@ MODS: Please do not close this thread yet!

congrats on the decision rajeev.
not what about the scorpio? will it be used by somebody else in your family?
The scorpio will be jointly used by me & my family now. [cry]

Let me be the first to congratulate you. Finally your dilemma ends with an Italian beauty. IMO better go for aftermarket reverse sensors. You will find a wide range of sensors with customized options at good prices though not less than one quoted by FIAT.

Please take the mudflaps from the dealership itself. From what i know it is difficult to source Punto mudflaps outside.

Thanks buddy. I dont want the mudflaps as they spoil the beauty of the car. I will think about it when the rainy season is near!

Congrats Raj! An unmatched design, powerful engine, nice interiors and white in color. With some alloys you're planning to add, its gone be a head turner [thumbsup]
Do share the PDI details. All the best

Hey Congrats. Hope it doesn't disappoint you in future.

I have seen couple of guys with body coloured sensors. I think it comes in Black, but they should paint it with body color.

Good decision. The Punto's OE mud-flaps are pretty bad looking, though the quality is good.

Nope, its pretty easily available @Rs 485 for a set of 4.
I have 2 sets (I have removed from my car[:D]). If anybody needs I can give it for free.

Looks is the only reason why i said no to the mud flaps.

Raj, the current year-end offer is still active, don't miss that if dealer has not given it -
thats for 2010 production cars. we needed a 2011 car.
