With the start of the Diwali festivities, Chevrolet has decided to slash the prices of the Captiva by a sizeable chunk. The automatic variant of the Captiva gets a price reduction of Rs 2.32lakh and the manual transmission variant is down by Rs 2.16lakh. The Captiva manual will now cost Rs 18.37lakh and Rs 20.18lakh for the automatic(both prices ex-showroom, Mumbai).

This whopping price reduction is a welcome move to prospective Captiva customers who found the vehicle too highly priced in the face of new competition like the Toyota Fortuner and the Ford Endeavour. With the Cruze launch earlier this week and now this drastic price reduction on the Captiva, Chevrolet in India certainly seems to be on a roll!

I don't think Cruze prices will drop. It is in any case, very well priced. But the Captiva price drop was necessary to give the Fortuner and company some heat.

This a bad move IMO. This will affect the resale value of Captiva. The most affected will be those who already bought the car.

I feel its justified. The Captiva is 2 years old and a few upgrades were certainly around the corner. It is a very good SUV IMO and with the Fortuner coming in it would give the buyers a good choice.

Regrading the resale value, 2008 model done 30,000 kms costs around Rs 12 lakhs in Delhi.

this is Fortuner effect for GM to slash its prices for captiva, which after this reduction has seen quite good buyers around country as fortuner is having loong wait list, nevertheless its a good urban SUV with occassional offroading capacity.

@sohit,

The Resale value seems to be pretty good!

Yes this is Toyota's ripple effect which banged the segment & makes the competitors drill down their prices!
