Re: Car Owners May Not Get Subsidised Diesel

Diesel Tax on ALL CARS proposed by Jaipal Reddy - TOI

I have gone through the above link & its pretty ridiculous the kind of calculations the Petroleum Minister has come up with. It seems imminent that duty on Diesel cars will go up by 1.5 lakhs be it a hatch back or a gas guzzling SUV. This will ofcourse be opposed tooth & nail by the industry. If anyone wants to buy diesel car do it now

There will be no increase or extra taxes on Diesel cars soon. IMO last month has seen a very lame increase in car sales so just to push the sales Mr Minister has given this statement and reports.

@Vaibhav if that news is to be believed then I would surely kiss him & present a bouquet of flowers to him lol. If at all the Govt. doesn't hike any more things then I can surely on my way buying my car this year hopefully. The news of hike in excise duty on cars to the tune of 1.70 lakhs on hatches made me feel like the Bhopal shatabdi was running in my heart!

Excise Duty On Diesel Cars Under Reconsideration again

NEW DELHI: The government is examining proposals to increase excise duty on diesel cars, Parliament was informed today.

In a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha on whether the government is contemplating to increase excise duty on diesel cars, Minister of State Finance, S S Palanimanickam said: "Representations have been received by the government for increasing excise duty on diesel cars. These are under examination".

He further said: "The requests have been justified on the ground that diesel cars are more polluting and consume subsidised diesel providing unintended benefit to diesel car users".

The minister, quoting Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) said the total number of petrol and diesel cars together sold in the domestic market in 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12 was 15.28 lakh, 19.73 lakh and 20.16 lakh respectively.

Re: Excise Duty On Diesel Cars Under Reconsideration again

As usual the numbers presented to the Govt. are inflated which are far removed from the reality. Lets hope things don't get more worse that we all have to cough up more for even step into our cars let alone drive them
