Re: As the wheels roll and the shutters click…Travel reminiscences…

We reached our stay late in the afternoon and rested. In the evening, we just walked around to nearby places, and had dinner.

The next day we went for another cruise. We had already informed the boatman and he was waiting for us. This time we started off to a visit to the Pathiramanal Island. That was a 45 minutes ride from the mainland.

Once we were in the middle of the lake, gave the cameras some rest. Surprisingly the BSNL 3G was really fast. So we just relaxed, did some browsing and clicked one from my cellphone for facebook.

The boat heading to the Pathiramanal Island seen at a distance. I didn't know I was that heavy to tilt the boat so much...[:D]

Halfway to the island, there was a patch of water plants and there was this Pond Heron making a perfect landing on it.

I never know that, these many variety of birds around us.

After seeing your pics, I started looking at birds and found each and every bird is different and colorful.

During your next visit to Chennai, pls visit Pallikarai. So many varieties of birds are there. I'm sure, you will like that place.

BTW, I'm not frequently commenting here, because I don't want to spoil the flow of your pics and captions[:)].

I am happy you have started noticing the birds around us. They are beautiful and add color to life. I am also happy that my pictures are creating an awareness among people here.

Last Friday, a few of my friends from work and I had gone out for lunch at a restaurant at 80 feet road, Indra Nagar, Bangalore. I had parked my car beneath a thick bushy tree. After lunch when we were standing under the tree and talking, I heard a Barbet's call. I traced the bird and just pointed it out to my friends. For the next 5 minutes we all were watching it branch hopping and also saw an Asian Koel land up on the same tree. I was surprised when one of those guys said that he had seen the same bird (a Barbet) in one of my photos posted online.

Will try to do so. Why don't you also join along if time permits?

We were the only people on Pathiramanal Island. It is a small island around one km in diameter. There is a small narrow path that cuts across the island from the jetty. We walked the path with my 77 year old M-I-L leading the way. Sadly we could not see any birds inside the island. Though when we circled the island in the boat, we could see a lot of water birds it the edge of the island.

Thank you for your kind words, incarnation!

Do I need to say "Yes" OR "The spot", where can I join with you[;)]
I will let you know well in advance when I plan to visit Chennai. Then we can work out the details.

As we left the island, we asked the boatman to circle the island. We could see some birds perched high on the trees at the edge of the island.

We continued our cruise through some narrow canals. We saw more water birds.

We saw so many birds this trip. Have taken thousands of pictures and most of them have come out great. The problem is selecting which one to process. In the end I am processing a few randomly and leaving the rest for some time later, if time permits.
