It was a long trip of 5000 km covering 5 states and 1 UT.

Started from Daman at around 5.30 AM

It was a good drive till Mumbai with less vehicles on the road.

Before reaching Panvel there was a big traffic jam.

After getting into Mumbai - Pune Expressway, we were relaxed in anticipation of a pleasure drive.

Contrary to our expectations it was shocking to see long line of vehicles crawling through the Expressway.

It was unbelievable to see bumper to bumper traffic in this road. Took more than one hour move a distance of 5 km.

Re: A Peak Summer Southern Odyssey - 5000 Kms Round Trip To Kerala

It was an unusual day in Mumbai - Pune Expressway with a very long queue of vehicles in all the three lines and climbing through the ghat road. Incline of the road is felt this time. There were heavy trucks and other cars parked on the shoulder road too which formed a 4th line.

We saw many cars stopped midway due to over heating. Surprised to see Innovas broke down in the middle of a road. There was a Pajero also with bonnet open. When these cars are stopped infront of us, then it took a hell of an effort to change the line because of bumper to bumper movement in all the lines. Had to change line 5 times due to this.

Temp guage dial has crossed the half mark and I was worried. Switched off AC and continued in 1st gear as advised by my collegue who was the co - driver. I don't know the logic but it worked - 1st gear pull was generating less heat than when we were in 2nd gear.

{It may not be correct but it seemed that FIAT multijet engine was not affected by over heating that day - could not see any Punto, Linea, Swift, Vista, Manza broke down on that stretch. But there were Innovas, i20s, Scorpios, Beat, Alto, Wangon R, Figo, Honda and some other makes too. This is just a quick observation without any basis.}

Thanks Iron Rock.

Yes it was like a hell that day too.

Stopped for break fast in that crowded food court (assume that only one is available in Mumbai-Pune Expressway for one side). Opted for the AC area where table service is available. But it was an unpleasant feeling with the ambience, lack of cleanliness and low quality of food. Its like exploiting Expressway commuters.

After the break, it was normal with no trace of traffic jam.

Then a small incident as explained in another post http://www.theautomotiveindia.com/f...manza-ownership-experience-15.html#post164192

Continued our trip after 3 hours and again it was a long jam at Pune before reaching NH4 towards Satara.

codename47,

Those pictures in the first post were taken at various locations in Palakkad (A district in Kerala). Posted those pictures as a start for the travelogue thread.

From now on shall include a brief description along with the pictures.

Here is a brief of those pictures in post #1
First one is my car parked in front of a relative's home
Second picture was from a small river bridge near our home.
Third and fourth pictures were taken at my sister's house
Last picture is view of a road from sit out at wife's house.
Those elephants were in a compound in that village. (its owner is having more than 10 elephants with him)
