Cannon EOS 1100D or Nikon D5100 ?
Then it's definitely got to be the D5100. I had the 1100D, it wasn't bad, but the results aren't that good, especially if you're a new DSLR user. Once you get used to it, you can get some awesome results.

But D5100 is a step ahead. Go for it.

Friends, I am also a beginner in DSLR, after going through different threads, I zeroed in Nikon D3300. I am happy that masters like Manoj and others are recommending same[:)]

as a beginner I am planning to go for 18-55 lens only.

is It a right decision? advises please

Now, on the search for best store for purchase. Amazon, flipkart etc offers D3300 with 18-55 lens for 28-30K. Friend from Dubai will check price and let me know shortly.

any guarantee issues for online purchase?

I will go through Mr.Boss link in the same page for purchase

That's a good choice. You can start with 18-55 lens, once you get used to the gear, upgrade to Prime / Telephoto lens based on your need.
