Re: Government to impose speed limit for all vehicles in India?

I bet it would be better to cash in on high end bicycles, rather than cars.

Really, the officials have lost on all grounds. Wherever they are helpless in tackling the issue, they pass a law onto the citizens and escape through back-door. Pathetic mentality!!!

To name a few, sun film, air horn or high decibel horn or fancy horn, fancy number plates, reckless driving, drunken driving, high road tax when literally there are no roads to drive peacefully (except for some highways / expressways, where again, we pay [frustration] and enjoy the drive), fraud documents everywhere, high tax for everything available in market, scams scams and more scams, and the endless other lists!!!

typical indian mind set. instead of building better roads for faster safer travel we are being ( if its true ) made to go backwards when the whole world wants to go faster
exactly. that's why we see dozens of speed breakers as if the potholes weren't enough. these speed breakers cause more damage than otherwise.

government is using imported vehicles for them since ages now. they have dark films, crazy horns and lights and drive around at 150km /h while you're put behind road blocks and police banners.

Re: Government To Impose Speed Limit On All Vehicles in India?

The Government is all set to revise the maximum speed limit of each category of vehicles plying on the roads across the country. While cars will be allowed to ply at 100 km per hour, the maximum speed limit for goods vehicles will be 80 km. Motor cycles will also be allowed to ply at 80 kmph against the earlier norm of 50 kmph.

The speed limit of Quadricycles, a new category of vehicles, is also set to be fixed at 70 kmph.
While earlier the speed limit was based on vehicle type, this time the new norm is based on the seating capacity of all such vehicles. For example, a passenger vehicle that can accommodate nine passengers besides the driver will be allowed to ply at 80 kmph. But a passenger vehicle with less than eight seating capacity can speed up to 100 kmph after the fresh notification is out

Speed governors to be made mandatory for trucks and buses from October

Speed governors to be made mandatory for trucks and buses from October

News Source: Indian Autos Blog - A Global Auto News provider based in India.

Commercial vehicles would have speed governors limiting the top speed to 80 km/h.

Economic Time reports that the government of India will enforce a new rule, making the speed limiting devices mandatory in trucks and buses. The move is a part of the government’s ongoing amends in the Indian road transport scene and is aimed at eliminating the menace of overspeeding heavy vehicles.

The rule doesn’t propose to cover other categories of vehicles such as two wheelers, passenger vehicles that carry less than 9 people, ambulance, fire tenders, police vehicles, etc.

The government is also working on revising the highway speed limits for different categories of automobiles. According to the new speed limit regulations, the commercial vehicles would be permitted to ply at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. The mandatory speed governors for trucks and buses will have a pre-set maximum speed of 80 km/h.

The commercial vehicles that are made from October 1, 2014 should have a speed governor installed before delivery.

The new mandate will be featured in an amended Central Motor Vehicles Rules, 1989 (CMVR). As per the rule, every new transport vehicle that is made from October 1, 2014 should have the speed limiter installed either during its manufacturing process or at the dealership level.
As far as commercial vehicles that are manufactured before October 1 are concerned, the central government would let the state governments decide the course of action. Some state governments have already made speed governors compulsory for certain categories of vehicles such as school buses and tankers

This move comes after the government announced ABS will be made compulsory on commercial vehicles starting from April 2015.

As such we don't have databases of accidents, but still in my experience at hospital, most accidents occur while overtaking & while night driving, small vehicles dash behind parked trucks on road at night. This can't be prevented by speed limit.

most accidents also occur due to illegal blinding headlights, suddenly appearing potholes and speed breakers and random animals on road.
