The countdown for the 2010 World Car and World Performance Car of the Year has begun. Results of the prestigious award will be out on April 1, 2010, at a press conference held at the New York International Auto Show.
A jury of 59 international automotive journalists have already selected the top ten cars in both the categories and the top 3 finalist in all award categories will be announced at the Geneva Motor Show on March 2, 2010.
The judges have discreetly voted their candidate via secret ballot on the basis of their individual experience with each vehicle. Following meticulous tabulation, the top 10 finalists from both the categories were selected. All the jury members - hold significant stature - constitute a balance of representation from Asia, Europe, North America, South America, as well as other parts of the world.
The jurors will now re-evaluate the top ten cars in both classes, and re-vote in February. They will specifically rate each vehicle in terms of overall merit, value, safety, environmental responsibility, emotional appeal, and significance. These votes will be tabulated again and the top three finalists in both the categories will be announced.
Finalists in the remaining two categories – World Car Design and World Green Car - are handled differently. A separate panel of five highly respected world design experts will assist the judges and will develop a short list of recommendations constituting the finalists from the 2010 World Car of the Year list. The judges will then choose the winner of the 2010 World Car Design of the Year from the recommended list. Same procedures are followed for the World Green Car* award as well.
Intended to complement the existing national and regional Car of the Year awards, the World Car Awards have become the world’s most prestigious and credible programme. Inaugurated in 2003, and officially launched in January 2004, the motive behind this award is to reflect the reality of the global marketplace, as well as to recognize and reward automotive excellence on an international scale.

The 2010 World Car of the Year will be selected from the following top cars:
Audi Q5
BMW X1
Chevrolet Cruze
Kia Soul
Mazda3
Mercedes-Benz E-Class
Opel/Vauxhall Insignia / Buick Regal
Porsche Panamera
Toyota Prius
Volkswagen Polo

The 2010 World Performance Car will be chosen from the following top ten finalists:

Audi R8 V10
Audi TT RS Coupé / Roadster
BMW Z4
Ferrari California
Jaguar XFR
Lotus Evora

Merc Eclass has got greater chances, atleast my vote goes to her.
It would have been Toyota Prius if the news of the quality issues had not arised at this time.

The Polo is proving to be a success in foreign markets, Recently it was honored with European Car Of The Year Award and now it is short listed in the World Car Of The Year List, We hope it’ll be able to show same magic here. Personally Speaking, Chevy Cruze or Prius would take away my vote for WCOTY and Nissan 370Z or California for WPCOTY.

Volkswagen Polo bags the 2010 World Car of the Year award!

After the judgement of about 59 automotive journalists from all over the world, Volkswagen AG confirmed that the Polo has been declared as 2010 World Car of the Year. Professor Dr Martin Winterkorn, Chairman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen AG stated, ‘We're honoured that the Volkswagen Polo was chosen by this distinguished group of jurors. After the triumph of the Golf last year, we are delighted to repeat this success with the new Polo. This shows that Volkswagen is on the right track and is offering arguably the best range of products in its history.’ Leaving the WCOTY Award aside, the Golf, Passat, and Polo which are included in the Volkswagen BlueMotion product brand were declared 2010 World Green Car of the Year by the World Car of The Year organization. Amongst the finalists in this award were the Honda Insight and the Toyota Prius.

2019 WCOTY Runner Ups Hyundai Santro, Kia Soul Are Big Winners

While the Jaguar I-Pace bagged three awards at WCOTY 2019 including the prestigious World Car Of The Year award, even the Hyundai Santro and Kia Soul were nominated for multiple categories.

The 2019 World Car Of The Year Awards were announced recently at the New York Motor Show and we've already told you about the list of winners. Of course, it was a big win for Jaguar at the WCOTY and it gave tough competition to the likes of the Audi e-Tron and even the Volvo S60/V60 to win the top honours. However, it has been quite the year for manufacturers like Hyundai and Suzuki too. Hyundai's Nexo was one of the contenders for the World Car Of The Year Award but the car came in 6th place ahead of cars like the Genesis G70, BMW 3 Series and even the Ford Focus. This clearly shows how far the company has come in terms of making sure that the product is truly world class.

The KIA Soul was trumped by a narrow margin by the Suzuki Jimny which won the World Urban Car Of The Year Award.
