Help me out experts.
We have a 2008 Suzuki DZire which has clocked 35535kms in stock tubeless tyres as of now. Out of which one tyre has a tube. (Had a very bad puncture which had destroyed the inner filling of the tyre) One tyre has started giving problem (There are no puntures but then also the pressure goes out in two days! Every alternate we have to check the pressure and go to work.) So, I suggested my dad to go for alloy wheels and tyres of 15". Got a clear "NOOOO" from him for the alloys hearing the cost as of now.(He does not bother about the looks of the car and obviously I would go for branded ones if allowed to!) So for the tyres its a YES! I have decided to get 15" Alloys in the future but then again I will have to change the tyres then. Simple Idea now is to get stock steel rim of 15", 100PCD for our DZire. Now my main questions are:

1) Which car's stock 15" rims should I go for our DZire with pcd 100?

2) Is the above decission made by me makes any sence?(I know it sounds weird)

3) Which brand of tyres should I go for?

4) Which size will be the best keeping in mind the inner sidewalls of the mudguard does not touch the tyre?

5) Should I go from stock 165/80/14 to 195/60/15 or 205/?/15...?

Now our usage,
The car is mostly driven by my dad and very rarely by me with running of 60% highways, 20% city, 20% bad roads with potholes (garrage area of Vashi, Panvel, Kalamboli, etc, since our business is of spare parts of Trucks!)

6) So is shifting from 14" to 15"chers is suggested?

Hope you can understand my point and give me suggestions.

Hi Gears!

I would not suggest 15 inchers for Dzire since its driven by dad almost all the times.

14 inchers which comes in Dzire is really good & not under tyred. So stick with the same rims.

You can go for 14" alloys when ever you get some Vitamin M.

For tyres checkout Michlein & Yoko's there are best for Indian Roads.

Welcome Gears..

Your stock size is 165/80 R 14

You can go max up to 185/70 R14 on Michlein's XM1.

Its the best bet which you can get. You can also go for 205's where the mileage & handling changes in a minor way.

I feel 195 should be Good for you. Even 15" is excellent size, if cost is ok for you. But you must check the fittings and side-wall touching issues, before finalizing.

Tyre could be from Yokohama or Micheline. Or Bridgestone Potenza.

RSM, 15 inchers are excellent to see, but when it comes to handling, it doesn't.

We have 18 inchers on swift in chennai. Its just a model car. Nothing can't be done with it.

Tyre Upsize

Please do check this site before ugrading tyres.

If you are really concious about 15 inchers then go for this 205/60 R15

The Punto's OE tyre is of 195 / 60 R15, for Emotion Pack, specification. And i know for sure its handling is impeccable.

The Chasis built for Punto is different from the ones of Dzire, even the Kerbs.

So you can't judge car's tyre sized by just seeing it.

The OE of Dzire ZXi is 185/70 R14 and this is what Maruti recommends.

And as I said gears can even opt for 205/60 R15, if he is style concious :)

I also suggest what Zinam has said. 185/70R14. Tyres Bridgestone , Michelin or Yoko! But not Goodyear and JK as they are very noisy at high speeds.

But guys one doubt as the car is being driven on bad roads too wont 15 inches affect the handling and ride quality?

Thanks Zinam, lets see what happens![confused]

As of now if I am going for 15" then they will be on stock steel rims of some other car. Lack of vitamin M.

Zinam, It's not that I 'NEVER' drive my car! And as most of the time it is with dad so he uses it most. And yes, I am style consious![glasses]

Hey cooldhaya, but I think 185/70/14 will be slim for the ride. What about 195 or 205?

I have attached two pics of tyre comparison with the 165/80/14 form the internet for both 14" and 15"! Have a look.

Well i said 185/70R14 because the top-end Zxi variant comes with those i have never felt them to be slim for a Dzire! And if you are very style conscious go for 195/60R15. I feel 205/60 R15 will affect the FE , speedo reading and handling also considerably.

Verna has only 14" steel rims only.To go for 15" steel rims,AFAIK,ambassador, tavera,NHC and Sumo comes with 15" steel rims. But,you have to check for their pcd.

Most of the autogurus have already given suggestions for the rims. I would just like to suggest you to go for Michelines. I recently drove a DZire on Michelines and trust me the tyre noise was very less inside the cabin. Even on our forum too, i read somewhere that Micheline are much better as far as tyre noise reduction is concerned.
