Domestic - Indigo
International - Jet Airways

Since I used to travel frequently in domestic flights, I can comment on them more.

Here's my take :
Eventhough Spicejet offers lesser price or similar to Indigo , their frequent rescheduling of flights always irritates me. Atleast 1/3rd of my domestic travel in spicejet were affected by rescheduling.
On the other hand, Indigo offers slightly better service and almost no rescheduling in my case.

I have travelled only twice in International flight - Jet airways/connect where I dont find anything to complain. Overall its good.

Somehow I never prefer SpiceJet. My views remain unchanged even after flying with them. They simply lack professionalism and enthusiasm if compared to IndiGo.
I had to travel with SpiceJet again after 4 Years. Experience remains unchanged. The aircraft was unusually squeaking and seats were worn out like a local bus.

I will prefer Air India.Airports and services all are good of Air India
I have the same sentiments having travelled a lot with them (though have travelled in Jet, Indigo, Spicejet and the old KF/Air Deccan too). A minimum guarantee of service is there with them. Getting meals on slightly longer haul flights is a bonus (sadly on other routes food served has gone down on quantity during non-meal times). Entertainment systems are decent and I like reading their in-flight magazines. Some of my best flights are with them.
Only wish they keep their ETDs in check. Their staff is always courteous.
Must say their lounges are quite good. Travelling executive class is a real pleasure with them :)

@Mods: Please add Vistara to the poll

Recent Experiences:

New Delhi to Bangalore and back
  • Operator: Air India
  • Liner: Boeing 787 Dreamliner
  • Travel Class: Economy
  • Experience: Brilliant [clap]

Return:
  • Operator: Indigo
  • Liner: Boeing 737 (I guess SpiceJet and Indigo have a lot of really old (maybe used) liners)
  • Travel Class: Economy
  • Experience: Nothing to complain but AI was definitely better every way

I frequently fly between New Delhi and Lucknow; what I have discovered on this route is that Air India and Vistara simply outshine others.

New Delhi to Lucknow and back

  • Operator: Air India
  • Liner: Airbus A320
  • Travel Class: Economy
  • Experience: Good as always

  • Operator: Vistara
  • Liner: Airbus A320
  • Travel Class: Premium Economy (Their Premium Economy is definitely worth a try and is a fully paisa wasool service)
  • Experience: Brilliant [clap]

Currently on this route I have flew with SpiceJet, Indigo, AI and Vistara. Overall I rate AI and Vistara at best.

Recently when I flew to Chennai, I took SpiceJet from New Delhi to Chennai. A Boeing 737 with a good number of rattles it was. Tail painted blue and under the white paint one could easily see the name of the airline they bought/leased the liner from. Although the flight experience was good (yes their attendants are beautiful and one has to agree on this one, in fact they and KF only score awesome in this field) but there was always some weird sound coming from something and seats etc were not really well maintained. And yes, preponed the flight by 15 minutes but informed of it around 10 days in advance.

On the return journey it was Air India again and I must say that the liner which was an Airbus A321 was good, clean and well maintained. Lighting needs a special mention, I was sleepy during the return journey (Yes, I studied for around 20 hours before presentation in Chennai and spend a sleepless night) and there was no over bright lights like what we frequently get to see in B737s.

And yes, not to forget the T3 of IGI airport from which the AI and Vistara operate.

So in my list, it is a tie between Air India and Vistara which is closely followed by Jet Airways.

Friends,

I have flown very frequently with Indigo from Bombay to Delhi and return. Their planes are really well kept and cabins are really clean and tidy. Arrival and Departure is 80% of time is before schedule and they too get preferential landing. Staff is rally courteous and I made some really good friends at Delhi Airport with Indigo. Their Planes ages are less than 24 months because every time they make an in-flight announcement "With the induction of Brand New Airbus A-320....". One of the most professional airlines I must say. Have flown with them at night, morning, mid-day but never a single issue.[clap]

Regards

Akash
