WhatsApp getting 4 new animated sticker packs today: Check details

WhatsApp is rolling out four new animated sticker packs for Android Beta and iOS Beta apps today. As reported by WABetaInfo, the messaging platform is getting these new animated stickers in WhatsApp Android Beta version 2.20.194.17 and 2.20.70.26 iOS beta versions.

It is also reported that previous updates might get the feature as well (for example the 2.20.70 iOS update from the App Store) but it is still a Beta exclusive update. We can expect these to roll out in future stable updates after thorough testing. The Beta updates usually get bugs and inconsistency, so the company is only uses it for testing purposes.

whatsapp-search-the-web_425_735.jpg

WhatsApp Messenger has rolled out a new feature to its popular messaging application. The new update brings the ability to check forwarded messages on the platform.

The company has revealed that it is testing a new feature known as the Search the Web. The feature will allow users to check for the forwarded messages they get on their WhatsApp. One can tap on the magnifying glass button in the chat and it will provide a simple way to search messages that have been forwarded many times. “The feature may help people find news results or other sources of information about the content they have received,” the company said in a statement.

Additionally, the feature works by allowing users to upload the message via their browser without WhatsApp ever seeing the message itself. The company has revealed that the Search the Web feature is being rolled out starting today in Brazil, Italy, Ireland, Mexico, Spain, UK, and the US for those on the latest versions of WhatsApp for Android, iOS and WhatsApp Web.

WhatsApp or anybody else cannot read your chats, company assures highest privacy standards

In the last few weeks, WhatsApp’s promise on privacy has been put under the scanner. In the investigation leading up to the death of the popular Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput, a few personal WhatsApp chats of the accused were leaked. Several people and media houses started questioning the security of the encrypted chats on the platform. If you had doubts too, the company has come up with a clarification on the issue.

“WhatsApp protects your messages with end-to-end encryption so that only you and the person you’re communicating with can read what is sent, and nobody in between can access it, not even WhatsApp. It’s important to remember that people sign up on WhatsApp using only a phone number, and WhatsApp doesn’t have access to your message content,” says WhatsApp.

“WhatsApp follows guidance provided by operating system manufacturers for on-device storage and we encourage people to take advantage of all the security features provided by operating systems such as strong passwords or biometric IDs to prevent third parties from accessing content stored on the device,” the spokesperson added.

WhatsApp Enables Always Mute, New Storage UI, Media Guidelines Features in Latest Android Beta

whatsapp_always_mute_1601535533834.jpg

WhatsApp is enabling multiple features for Android beta users to tinker with. This includes a useful ‘Always Mute' feature, a new Storage Usage UI and its tools, and another feature called Media Guidelines. The instant messaging platform has released WhatsApp 2.20.201.10 beta for Android and it also has been discovered that video and voice call buttons for business accounts have disappeared. The new features have been enabled in the latest beta, but the waiting time may be a little more for some.

WABetaInfo dug into the latest WhatsApp 2.20.201.10 beta for Android and spotted several new features in testing. The most exciting of all is probably the ‘Always Mute' feature which essentially replaces the ‘1 year' option available earlier when muting a chat. The new option is self-explanatory, allowing users to mute few groups or people indefinitely. We were able to spot this feature in the latest beta. WABetaInfo notes that if it does not appear immediately, it should be enabled within a few days.

BIOMETRIC_LOCK_ANDROID-768x580.png

According to a WaBetaInfo report, the company is working for a few months on a couple of new features. This includes Join Missed Calls, which would allow users to quickly join calls in a certain situation. The feature is meant to allow users to join a group missed call if the call is still active with other members. It is still under development and will be available via an update in the future.

Another new feature is the Biometric Lock, as the name suggests, this new addition will bring biometric security to the popular messaging application. In this, users would be able to use Fingerprint Lock to protect their WhatsApp. This feature will also work with face recognition systems if a fingerprint sensor is not present in one’s device. At the moment, facial and fingerprint based recognition are the only two methods that are supported.

The new Disappearing Messages will allow users to have conversations of various sorts and will ensure their privacy. Users will be able to send and receive vanishing messages once the Disappearing Messages feature is enabled. The ephemeral messages can be sent on both individual and group chats. While for one-to-one chats any person can enable the feature, group chats would need the admins to do the deed.

The messages will have a 7-day window, following which they will be automatically deleted. This is also applicable for messages that have not been seen. However, a preview of the messages will remain until the chat is opened.
