33000 Km done!

Updating this thread after a long time.My Michelin Primacy 3ST has completed 33000 Km without any WA/WB.Tyre noise is less but ride gets quite bumpy if we go on bad roads. My next upgrade would be 205/55R15 Yoko S Drives or Hankooks. As per my SA in VW,they can be driven for 5-10K Km if driven sanely.

Hi All,
My Friend wants to change tyre for Vento with stock 14 rims.
He is confused whether to chose 175/70 R 14 or 185/65 R 14
What about other tyre size options available.
How are Bridgestone Turanza AR-20 or Bridgestone B290.

Assuming your friend has 175/70R14 as the stock size, 185/65R14 would be the perfect upsize as it has a 0.75% overall diameter difference. 195/60R14 has 1.8% difference, and the maximum difference allowed is 2%.

Advice him to go for 185/65R14. Michelin are good if he is looking for a comfortable ride. Other brands available are Continental and Yokohama. I have heard that AR20 (Turanza) are noisy but durable due to the harder compound.

Thanks ice wise for your reply.
1.He is considering Bridgestone B290. How about this tyre ?
2.Is it advisable to buy tyres from online, will we get new stock ?
3.Does 185/65 R14 increase ground clearance.

1. No idea on Bridgestone as I haven't used them. Other members can comment.
2. Yes, I had bought Michelin XM2 for my Swift this September. The price turned out to be 1.5k cheaper than market prices, and the tyre was ~1.5 month old. Only negative was the packing, the tyres (4) were wrapped in some sheet (after the original Michelin wrap) and delivered. I mean it was easy to make out that there were tyres inside the package!
3. Yes. But only marginally, around 0.4-0.5% of the original GC. 195/60R14 will increase the GC by close to 0.9%.

Today got quote from two tyre dealers
Bridgestone B290 185/65 R14
1st dealer 4500 + WA /WB - 910
2nd dealer 4400 + WA/WB - 960
2nd dealer said that 185/70 R14 is recommended size for vento, also Bridgestone is not recommended as it made of hard compound. They are convincing for Continental CC5.

Online Tyre Purchase

Hi,
My friend was looking to buy Bridgestone tyre from snapdeal online.
1.How can he claim warranty if there is any problem while using it.
2.Is 185/70 R14 right size for vento.
3.One of the dealer said that Bridgestone B290 Tyre is not recommended for vento, because it is made of hard compound.
4.If anyone installed B290 on other cars give their inputs about tyre.

Really sorry Aviators. I somehow missed you post, I browse through mobile only.

1. Usually tyre manufacturers don't approve insurance claims. They simply blame in on the user that the damage is caused by them, and they will state 100 reasons for proving their point. Anyway, you can contact Yokohama HO or dealers near your area for warranty claims.

2. 185/65R14 is the correct upsize.

3 & 4. It is upto you. Hard compounds will last longer, softer ones will be more comfortable. I have used only Michelins and can vouch for their comfort levels.

B290 are basic range tyres from BS , better only if there is budget restriction. They are comparable to basic tyres from MRF, CEAT, Goodyear etc

AR 20 are best for him.

I don't know if anyone of you have heard about Apollo Alnac 4G. Have been using them for 6 months now , the grip levels are excellent , tires are pretty comfortable and they are not that expensive as well.
I 'll say maybe you should give them a try, have been in hard braking situation a couple of times , didn't find them losing grip at all.

Yes, Apollo Alnac 4G have very good reviews. They are standard on new Polos. But one thing to note is that there is an Apollo Alnac tyre which is just a renamed version of Apollo Acceleres (not sure, but some basic version of Apollo) which has complete opposite reviews. Alnac 4G is good.
