What you guys are talking about ?

Do you have an idea if Govt. increase 1 rupee on diesel, what would be the implications of other important items ?[gun]

Govt. rather should think of something else to prevent miss use (if we call it miss use at the first place [thinking])

that is why, govt has increased the one-time tax paid for diesel cars. So that people who use subsidised diesel as fuel for vehicles pay up the equivalent amount at the time of buying the car! this eliminates the difference b/w petrol and diesel to a great extent! People will now consider buying Petrol cars

Well, the price of Diesel will be subsidised, But the ownership and running costs of Diesel and Petrol cars will become identical when combined in the near future.

Re: Delhi Govt. Increases Tax Upto 25% For Diesel Cars

Diesel prices may go up later this year

Petroleum ministry wants to limit the subsidy provided to state-run oil companies to one third of the losses incurred by them. What this basically means is that the government currently pays 38.7 per cent as subsidy to the companies, which will be reduced to 33.33 per cent. The reduction will directly result in a price hike of diesel since customers will have to bear the difference. If the proposal gets a nod from the finance minster, Pranab Mukherjee, expect the diesel prices to go up once again by the end of this year. An increase in diesel prices will further add to inflation, as the diesel accounts for nearly five per cent of the wholesale price index.

However, petroleum minister Jaipal Reddy ruled out the possibility of dual pricing or deregulation of diesel. The diesel is mainly used for commercial purpose like - transportation, power sector, farmer, railways and deregulation might adversely affect the economy. The ministry is also against different pricing for commercial and personal use, as it might lead to abuse in the market. Re: Delhi Govt. Increases Tax Upto 25% For Diesel Cars

Rather than putting tax on diesel cars, it would be better to tax vehicles with poor FE in diesel, which would definately include SUVs.

Remember, diesel big SUVs are driven only by rich, so better tax Fortuner, Endevor rather than Indica, Swift etc.

Btw, dealers in Guragaon can now enjoy as many people will buy diesel cars from Harayana (& partly from UP).

Whatever maybe about the diesel hike, its owners still enjoy riding with less fuel bills,if it also gets raised. But the worry is about the CV sector!(Because they have the real need and purpose to do),they hike all the products price instantly.

If the Government does not want car owners to move for diesel, then why in the world they have to slap so much of tax on petrol prices, they are indirectly attracting petrol customers to go for a diesel one.

My +1 here.
Petrol and Diesel (along with Naptha, Kerosene etc) are produced by the fractional distillation of Crude Oil. So the cost of production is the same.
Coming to taxation, first the Govt. should standardize the Road Tax and Fuel price in all states. Delhi has much lower road tax and fuel price compared to Mumbai.
Even if the price of Petrol and Diesel are the same, it will be more economical to run a Diesel car as to produce the same amount of power a Diesel Engine consumes much less than a Petrol Engine. This becomes more relevant if the price of Diesel cars is same as the Petrol equivalent. I'm assuming that there's not much difference in the manufacturing cost of a Diesel and a Petrol car.

No idead about the taxation , but as you say , the price difference must be less.

when both are almost similar priced , then its upto buyer .

Cost of petrol and diesel cars do differ.

diesel cars have lot of components than its petrol counter part , also the material uses is slightly different.

Any day petrol counter part will win if petrol price is lower or par with the diesel[evil]

Agreed but the difference in price is not a lakh which is being charged. Maybe 20-30K max.

Not necessary. If the price is the same and the cost of the cars is same too, the diesel will be a better option because of the better fuel effeciency of the Diesel car.

Re: Delhi Govt. Increases Tax Upto 25% For Diesel Cars

I've even also checked is that news true - surprisingly got some facts - Diesel car rto charges are now higher than petrol and this is applicable in Delhi. As per site mycarhelpline in its below link:-
Diesel Car Registration Cost Increases in Delhi by 25%. New RTO Slabs

a car with 10 Lac plus will now carry registration cost as 12.5% implies if planning to buy Fortuner i'll have to shell out 2.5 Lac as registration charge. thats too high !!!!!!
