^^Buddy,it may increase the price of the car by a lac but can get many takers for it.
People know about the performance of Skoda TSi and want to buy one too despite being a diesel. But still they don't buy it only because its a Skoda.
So I wish Toyota brings anything like that on the name of limited edition or say 'sports' version.

You are right here there is a definite market potential, but sadly almost all the OEM's stick to minor aesthetic job's and call it a Limited Edition - this does not bring any value to the consumer.

Toyota Corolla Altis J (S) new entry level variant launched at INR 11.74 lakhs

Christened as the Corolla Altis J (S), the new low end trim level is available in both petrol and diesel engine options. The new trim level will replace the J trim level that is available on the petrol variant and will be positioned above the J trim level of the diesel variant.

The new Toyota Corolla Altis J (S) gets dual airbags, a touchscreen music system, and USB compatibility over the J variant.

Powering the India spec Toyota Corolla Altis Diesel is a 1.4-litre D-4D diesel engine that has a max power output of 90PS. Compared to the diesel engines of the Chevrolet Cruze and the new Hyundai Elantra, the Altis diesel is pretty low on power. However, Toyota feels that high fuel efficiency and traditional Corolla strengths more than make up for the lower power delivery. The petrol variants of the Corolla Altis are powered by a 1.8-litre petrol engine that has 140ps of peak power. Both the engines come mated to a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Toyota Corolla Altis J (S) petrol has a sticker price of INR 11.74 lakhs and the Corolla Altis Diesel J (S) goes on sale at a price of INR 13.16 lakh. (All prices are ex-showroom, Delhi).

Toyota Corolla Altis gets a new entry level variant

Toyota Kirloskar Motor has quietly slipped in a new entry level variant on the Toyota Corolla Altis called the JS for both petrol and diesel models.

The new variant replaces the current entry level variant J and adds a few features to the equipment list. The move comes as D Segment sedan sales is witnessing a dry spell.

In the petrol version, the new JS variant has dual airbags, manual air conditioner, touchscreen display, USB connectivity and rear armrest which were missing on the previous base variant. The petrol JS variant is priced at Rs. 11.74 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

The diesel JS variant adds dual airbags, touchscreen and USB connectivity to the older J trim. The new entry level diesel variant retails at Rs. 13.16 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi).

The Corolla Altis which was once a clear segment leader is now forced to share the pie with many rivals like the Hyundai Elantra, Skoda Laura, VW Jetta, Chevrolet Cruze and the Renault Fluence. So the upgrade to the equipment list is necessary to stay afloat.

The Altis is powered either by a 1.8 litre VVT-i petrol engine that puts out 138 bhp or a rather underpowered 1.4 litre oil burner which makes do with just 88 bhp. Both the engines are mated to a 6-speed manual transmission in the base variants.

Toyota recalls 1,000 Corolla units in India

While there hasn’t been any major global recalls this year till now, it seems the trend has changed with the four Japanese automobile majors — Honda, Mazda, Nissan and Toyota — are recalling 3.4 million vehicles globally because of faulty airbags.

But it has been reported in The Business Line that the impact in India will be only on Toyota customers. The Indian arm of Toyota Motor — Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has reportedly stated that the recall would be limited to only around 1,000 vehicles, out of the total of 17.30 lakh vehicles under recall globally. Toyota is recalling the Corolla model car manufactured between January 2003 and June 2003.

The report quoted Sandeep Singh, Deputy Managing Director, TKM as saying “In India, it’s around 1,000 vehicles only. But, we have no incident reported or complaint received in India. These vehicles are more than 10 years old. However, our dealers will contact the customers and inspect the vehicle and if required will replace the part.”

The problem arose in these vehicles (including those manufactured by other companies) due to defective airbags supplied by Takata Corp of Japan. The front passenger airbags could have been assembled with improperly manufactured inflator propellant wafers, which could cause the inflator to rupture and the airbags to deploy abnormally in a crash. However, other Japanese subsidiaries — Honda Cars India and Nissan India — said there is no impact of their global recalls on Indian customers.
