Toyota crosses four-lakh units sale mark in India

The world's largest carmaker by sales Toyota said it has crossed the four-lakh units mark in India since it started operations in the country 11 years ago.

The company, which is present in India through a joint venture with the Kirloskar Group, is setting up its second manufacturing facility in Bangalore at an investment of Rs 3,200 crore to roll out a 'strategic' small car by early 2011.

This is a big step towards establishing Toyota as one of the major players in the Indian automobile market. This, in fact, could not have come at a better time for us, with the launch of the compact car in the Indian market next year," Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Deputy Managing Director (Marketing) Sandeep Singh said in a statement.

TKM has 93 dealerships at present and has firmed up plans to enhance it to 150 outlets before the launch of the compact car in 2011.

The company currently sells Corolla Altis, Innova, Camry, Fortuner, Prado and Land Cruiser in the country.

A great achievement considering the products they deal in. The numbers would increase tremendously after they launch volume seller, hatch and c segment sedan.

This is good news, but sadly they have pulled out of Formula 1. I did not find them competitive at all in F1.

good going toyota ,keep up the good work and keep coming with the same robust quality and engines.
Agree zinam, hatchback is what its missing in its lineup but am sure they are coming out with one as well, what seems is that they dont want to do honda way which is facing sales down to bottoms day by day with their jazz.

that is because JAZZ is overpriced. if TOYOTA comes with something competitive around 5 lakhs then it will be good.

After the failure of Jazz and Fabia in numbers, Toyota would concentrate more on pricing.
