Hello TAIgers,

I am looking to change tyres on my i20 Asta [Uber cool] which rides on 185/65R14.I am planning to upgrade to 195/65R14 or 205/60R14 or 195/60 R15.

My choice for brand is
- Michellin XM2
- Bridgestone Potenza GIII
- Yokohama S drive.

Now my worry is
- Does anyone has done 205/60 R14 upgrades for i20
- Does anyone has done rim upgrade on i20. Any drawbacks seen?

I am OK with the mileage loss on upsize.

Time has come to change my tyres on my Beat which has crossed 65K KMS in 4 years, 3 months with first set of tires [:D] , Goodyear 165/65 R14 came with car. Now I am planning to up size to 175/65 R14, as per manual rim size is mentioned 4.5J. Is it possible to fit 175 section tyres on 4.5J. can someone please confirm ? otherwise I will need to stick to 165 itself.
I have finalized on these brands - Michelin, Yokohama, Bridgestone - which one would be better in terms of life & rolling noise ?[confused]

Hey there,

I'm not an expert but I've used Michelin and Yokos Earth1 - both are good

In terms of Life I'd probably go for Michelin, rolling noise also isn't noticeable so I guess it has what your looking for. Life wise hands down Michelin comes 1st.

Yes, 1 size upgrade (from 165 to 175 section) is fine on stock rims. But 175/60R14 should be the correct upsize. The circumference difference in 175/65R14 is more than acceptable limit.

In 175/60R14, Goodyear and Yokohama are the available brands I think. Of these, Yokohama (A Drives I guess) would be a better choice. Check out!

Swiftian - More than 2% difference is not advisable. Negative or positive doesn't matter. Absolute values are considered, so 175/60 has lesser % difference in overall diameter than 175/65. You can try 175/65 but it will have more chances of scraping the fenders and causing other suspension problems. 175/60 is the safest bet. [:)]

Re: Fuel Efficiency of Hyundai i10 and Grand i10

I would like to know about tyre upsizing for Hyundai Grand i10 Asta. The alloy wheel is 14". OEM tyre size is 165/65 R14. What tyre size is right for upsizing? I am confused in this matter. I have city riding as well as highway riding. Your opinion in this matter will be highly appreciated.

Mr.Boss,
While going through the tire upsizing calculator I still have confusion. May be my ignorance in this matter. Please help. Hyundai grand i10 OEM stock tire size is 165/65 R 14. If I change to 185/60 R 14 the difference in error is 1.32% or something. But if it is for 175/60R14 the error difference is .75%. So my assumption is to go for 175/60 R14. Your reply is final. Since I am not a techie my ignorance in this matter may please be excused. Your reply will be authentic and will be anticipated.

Change in circumference / error while upgrading from 165/65R14 is,
185/60R14 : +1.3%
175/60R14 : -0.7%

Hope you got the answer.

175/60R14 will reduce the ground clearance by couple of 'mm'. Though it is negligible, 185/60R14 will give a better comfort and braking when compared with stock spec and 175 section width tires.
