Re: Tips To Improve Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency

This is my friend a big myth people have...

Keeping the temperature control knob in blue or white position does not alter the compressor speed or cut off time in cars fitted with manual air con system!!![frustration]

The temperature control knob in manual ac cars is just connected to a flap which directs the airflow between the heating coil and cooling coil of the car,
Really !!![confused], til now I thought that it works as AC at home, I used to keep the knob at mid way or to less cool option, thinking that, it will save on compressor/FE !
If that really true, then Thanks Mate !

Re: Improve Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency

Yes placing your leg on the clutch pedal will not only harm the FE but also cause premature wearing of clutch plate. I suggest you stop this practice soon.
It is difficult in city driving to remove leg from clutch between successive gear change. Since time span between gear change sometimes becomes less than a minitue. I keep my left leg touching the clutch pedal resting on heel. I think this will not harm clutch.

Re: Tips To Improve Your Car’s Fuel Efficiency

These are some nice tips. the only one I knew about is to drive in a higher gear, or rather change to a higher gear at lower rpms. I really hope I stated that correctly

Ford India: Eco Driving Can Reduce 25% Fuel Bills

Fuel Efficiency Tips Infographic_FORD INDIA.jpg

NEW DELHI, India, June 22, 2017 – Hands up, who likes forking out cash to fill up at the fuel station? What if you could do that less often? Where would you turn for help?

Try turning to the mirror, because poor driving habits are just like pouring money down the drain. As consumers buy fuel efficient vehicles in record numbers to save money and benefit the environment, few know that good driving habits are really the best way to economize.

In a recent survey by Ford Motor Company, Indian drivers were asked about their driving habits and fuel efficiency knowledge. When asked about their driving habits, 95 percent claimed they knew how to drive their car for maximum fuel efficiency, and 96 percent said they make a concerted effort to drive efficiently on a daily basis. The survey covered 9,500 drivers across 11 markets in Asia Pacific, including 1,023 Indian respondents.

Ford studies have investigated the influence of driving style on fuel consumption and CO2 per kilometer driven and found that by adopting an eco-driving style, drivers can slash both their fuel bill and their emissions by as much as 25 percent compared with ‘normal-average’ driving behavior. Small changes to the way you drive can have a big impact on fuel economy.

People go to extraordinary lengths to save money but then they jump in their cars and waste fuel,” said Adam Smith, Vehicle Energy Management Engineering Manager and one of Ford’s top fuel efficiency experts in Asia Pacific. “Eco-driving not only saves you fuel and money, it also benefits the environment and can make our roads safer for everyone.

Here are some simple tips that can help you be a greener, more fuel efficient driver:

Drive smoothly

Aggressive driving such as rapid acceleration, speeding and braking can lower your fuel mileage significantly. So accelerate smoothly, brake softer and earlier, and stay in one lane while it’s safe to do so. Not only do these driving techniques save fuel, they can prolong the life of your brakes and tires.

Slow down

Speeding wastes lots of fuel. By driving 90km/h instead of 100km/h you can improve your fuel efficiency by up to 10-15 percent. Also, aim for a constant speed. Pumping the accelerator sends more fuel into the engine, emptying the tank faster. Using cruise control whenever possible on the highway helps maintain speed and conserve fuel.

No idling

Today's engines don't need a warm up. Start the car immediately and gently drive away. Don’t leave your car idling. Prolonged idling increases emissions and wastes fuel. Turn the engine off whenever it is safe to do so, such as when stationary for more than 30 seconds. This avoids unnecessary energy consumption of an idle running engine.

Remove unnecessary cargo

Reducing the amount of cargo you keep in your trunk or back seat can improve your fuel efficiency as less energy is needed for acceleration. Try to travel as light as possible, keep only the most important items (like an emergency kit, jumper cables, a small toolset, and a small jack) in the vehicle.

Reduce aerodynamic drag

Your vehicle is designed for good aerodynamics – but attaching a huge carrier or bike to the roof adds more wind resistance. If you spend lots of time on the highway or are planning a long trip, try to transport extra items inside the vehicle or attached to the rear. Keeping your windows and sunroof closed can lower wind resistance too. You will have less drag, and better fuel economy.

Only use A/C on the highway

Your fuel economy drops by up to 15 percent when you use the air conditioner at low speeds. So if it isn’t too hot, turn off the air conditioner when driving around town, and roll down your windows instead. However, at 90km/h or higher, using the air conditioner is preferable to open windows for two reasons: Your vehicle has much lower wind resistance with the windows closed. And because the engine produces more power at higher revs, it’s able to run accessories like the A/C compressor more efficiently.

Use cruise control

Activating your cruise control keeps you from mindlessly driving faster and with lower fuel efficiency, maintains a constant speed, and won’t use additional fuel while accelerating. Try to set your cruise control at your vehicle’s most fuel-efficient speed, as long as it’s at or below the legal limit.

Combine trips

Many short trips will use more fuel than a single, longer trip. So when you have to drive for errands, get as many accomplished as you can in one trip to maximize your fuel economy.

In addition to all above points I'll Put my personal experience,
1. Proper Alignment
2. Proper Wheel Balancing
3. Regular Tyre Rotation
This will not only increase the FE but also helps to reduce maintenance cost.

Happy Drivivng!!!

Tips to 25% increase in mileage

KITNA DETI HAI

A simple line which every car owner is aware of and keep an eye on it on a regular basis.
Same with me, and the introduction of Fancy MID’s in the car which can tell you all about it in a sec, its become a daily, or even an hourly task of checking the mileage.
On a recent trip to Aurangabad following the route via MUM – GHOTI – SHIRDI – VAIJAPUR – AURANGABAD, driving as per my usual style and the speed not crossing 110kmph,
I got a mileage of 21.3km/l which was very good as the highest I have got is around 22.5km/l

IMG_8064-min.JPG

While returning, I refilled again till auto cut-off and reset the MID and Trip A meter. Since I was not at all in a hurry to end my vacations, I thought of improving on my Mileage and changed my style to bring out the best out of my SilverEyez( BALENO ALPHA PETROL)
The steps followed were very simple
1) Checking the Tyre pressure as per the manuals, 29psi in all tyres in my case.
2) Being very gentle on the A pedal, no adrenaline pushing of the pedal, no stomping the pedal from a standstill.
3) Maintaining a steady speed of 65kmph in single lane highways and 80kmph on 4/6 laned highways.
4) Strictly not crossing 80kmph, needs a lot of Patience and Grit, especially while overtaking or on open roads.
5) Planned Overtaking and maintaining the speed limit even while overtaking.
6) Releasing the legs off the A pedal on an decline, on each and every decline (Bridges , Ghats, etc) letting the momentum help in maintaining the desired speed.
7) AC was set on a comfortable 24deg

And the result was extraordinary, it was the best I have got from my Baleno till now
A WHOPPING 26.1Km/l

IMG_8272-min.JPG

This is amazing mileage for a distance of 356 KMS.
Check the difference in Fuel Meter.
Even the difference between the average time taken for the journey wasn’t much too, it took just 40 mins more. I would anytime follow the same pattern and get better mileage on roadtrips ,where the main aim is not to reach the destination fast but to enjoy the journey and be SAFER.

“JOURNEY IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE DESTINATION”

I am sure there must be more tips to increase the mileage but I think these are simple and practical steps to follow and get an amazing returns from any machine.

Ways to save fuel are:

1) Maintain your fuel economy.
2) Maintain your motor.
3) Be a smooth operator.
4) Watch your top speed.
5) Avoid traffic.

Hope this will help you :)

Completed first long trip on my Ignis petrol yesterday.
Pune-Mumbai and back. Total distance covered 287 kms, Fuel efficiency as per MID at the end of day was 20.9 kmpl. Highest I got on MID was 27 on the highway. Max speed was 100 kmph, didnt go beyond that. I could have managed more than 20.9 overall, but there was horrible bumper to bumper traffic in Mumbai.

Classy. I appreciate your patience. Not many can drive at 80 kmph on open roads. Any idea how much is the actual difference between mid and real time figures for Maruti cars?. I am too lazy to calculate using tankful method.

Is that a petrol 1.2 K series?? [shock]
At first I thought it was diesel 1.3 MJD and after years of 1.3 MJD cars, I know it gives 18-20kmpl with a heavy foot in city traffic and much more on the highway
But a petrol matching the same kmpl is amazing !!
I saw the tachometer and realized it was petrol not diesel

hi Siddh, did the tankful method on my recent trip and the difference wasn't much.
IMG_8587.JPG
First refill
559.7kms
30.6ltrs Petrol
Avg = 18.29kmpl
Difference = 0.70

IMG_9025.JPG
2nd Refill
577.1kms
30.1ltrs Petrol
Avg = 19.17kmpl
Difference = 0.52

Last time i had checked through tankful method in a city drive, the difference was around 1.3kmpl.
