Go for OEM rims and lug nuts.
And if possible, OEM spec tyres too.

Yeah. Speed was low, being broken stretch for over 4-5 km. One of the acquaintances had a similar incident where a hollow brick was left as temporary divider on a similar stretch, lost bumper and alloy wheel in slow speed, no-brake hit and airbags popped. Considering that, we were too lucky and minimal damage.

No point in investing on another set of wheels, so retaining the Lenso wheels.

Ford OEM nuts won't fit after-market wheels and they are worse than these cheap after-market lug nuts with warping and deforming issues. Happened to a couple of friends as well. The problem not only isolated to India, but to multiple fold in the US market as well with lawsuits. In our case, it was overtightened by the tyre guy mentioned above, and my brother was driving the car, and he wasn't much experienced with messing with nuts and bolts, and slipped the wrench causing the catastrophic damage. Currently in search of non-Allen key-type lug nuts. Found some sold by Inforged, but couldn't get hand on one yet. Allen key type causes rusting due to water ingress through the opening. Someone suggested Tata OE might fit, need to check them.

April 2022 - New Shoes

We were happy with 205/50R16, but after the ban, size options diminished. Current options in that size were Yokohoma Earth-1 and Michelin Pilot Sport 4, both of which were not available even with the distributor. Yokohoma could've been made available in a week, but our requirement was immediate. So, compromised on size, settled for 195/55R16, in which options were plenty. Wanted S-Drive, but bad luck. Been suggesting Continentals to everyone, so comes our chance. Called our tyre guy the night before and the tyres were made available in the morning. Tyre retained at ₹ 7,700.00 a piece and got ₹ 300.00 discount.

Total Cost

Tyres x 4 - ₹ 29,600.00
Wheel Alignment - ₹ 500.00
Wheel Balancing x 4 - ₹ 500.00
Total - ₹ 30,600.00

August 2022 - Oil Change Time

Oil change has been long due. Ran 9500 km in almost 2 years on Shell Helix Ultra. With attempt failed last time, made sure both drain bolt and oil filter are removable before attempting.

Drain bolt came off easily without any supernatural force.

But screwups like me a lot. Pan overflew and by the time I reached for the jug, the damage was done.

Belt-type oil filter wrench that failed last time due to the overtightened filter. This time, it was a cakewalk.

Drained whatever was above the filter level before unscrewing the filter.

Oiled the rubber ring and hand-tightened and then wrenched.

Nice DIY. And good pictures too. Very difficult to do work as well as take pictures, at the same time . Also all the time taking care to avoid soiling the phone with oil etc.
Every thing done good, except oil specifications. Recommended oil is 10W30.
Oil put in this diy is 5W40 !!

Phone has been thrashed and bashed and bathed in oil a couple of times over these years [:D]

They recommend both 5W30 and 10W30. So not harm using 5 weight oils.

Shell Advance Ultra 5W40 is the most preferred amongst 1.6 owners.

*OEs themselves change specs on their will, so no harm sticking with something that falls within any of their recommendations. This is my view on the grades [angel]. May be day after tomorrow they will switch to 0W20 like rest of the gang and claims that is the best.

August 2022 - Gear Shifter Cable Bush Replacement

Got Stunned! I was checking the cable linkage while changing oil and shocked to see the cable bush had vanished and luckily stuck in place. Slipping out would've screwed up a big time, making shifting impossible.

@vishnu vichu suggested replacing the bush ever since we bought the car stating there was a play, which we never felt (even now). Ford OE part number 9S6R7K382AA and price ₹485.

Managed to get a third-party bush from Swaraj Motors as the Ford parts was closed by the time.

Doesn't need any tool. Can get under and tie up with a cable tie or similar if stranded.

That's a common perishable part, for Figo as well. Lots of complaints on the forum. Already bought the original bush proactively. Figo too has almost same looking box setup, with cable linkages inside.
Slipping out would've screwed up a big time, making shifting impossible.
It will stick in the gear in which you are driving. Like if you are in 3rd, them drive home in 3rd only.

They could've listed it amongst routine replacement parts and set a service interval, like every 3-4 years. They even got inspection of number plate foam pads in their service chart, but missed out something critical like this.

Ford had a massive recall in US for failing shifter bush, but that was a different design came after this and had a more failure rate.
