November 2021 - Misc Updates

One of the low beams conked off, exactly in two years, Pulsar 220 bulb. Seems it was xenon as well.

Bought the same again. Price is very reasonable, with output comparable with other premium bulbs. Got from Prime Motors.

Had to remove headlight for install. I was fiddling with the bulb at the body shop and the retaining clip sprung away and lost. Tried sourcing one beforehand without success, and plan B was to do some kind of jugaad.

Surprise, and clip was stuck inside the light housing.

Low vs high. Low is whiter and high is less yellow in real.

Pin for fog lamp was burnt due to loose contact.

Is the pulsar bulb specs and shape exact match/fit with Ford oem bulb specs(I mean the specs not the brand)?
If yes than it will be a very cost effective solution.


p.s Your gold ring in the 3rd finger with catchy letters on it is catching more attention, than the DIY itself !!

Oops. Hope she won't see this [gun]. I make sure to remove them in grease-monkey mode, but that day [roll]

December 2021 - Suspension Work

Pony had a rattling feel in the steering with running over rumble strips and road studs. Approached our regular FNG. He said he will disassemble and replace necessary parts.

The inner ball joint and tie-rod end were gone. Replaced them with after-market parts.

Inner Ball Joint - Rane 12146022 - ₹ 631.00 x 2

Bought windscreen bottom beading and got it replaced by him. Got from Focuz Parts Mart, Ford GP dealer.

After rework, car was handling weird, going out of control at higher speeds. Culprit was the tyre. Condition of front tyre.

Did rotation and alignment at Wheel Tech. Suggested by many enthusiasts and the mech. Rush was heavy, waited 2 hours.

It appears you are lucky. One Ford ASS is ready to sell OTC there. No such luck here in Kanpur.

Mentioned in Figo thread about one of the two dealers selling parts OTC, but sadly they too stopped. Both of them provide parts if we check in the car and bill for labour. The dealer who used to sell parts is rumoured to switch to Toyota. The other dealer converted the showroom into a detailing studio. These dealers would get a reasonable cut from Ford yearly till the promised backup period. Luckily the third option, the Ford Genuine Parts shop is there for us, but they are clueless about model specific parts as they deal with other brands too and no dedicated staff for Ford. Less headache if we have the part number.

Yeah, same place.

April 2022 - Tyre Burst

During a long run, hit a boulder in a road construction stretch, which was dusty and poorly lit during late night. Adding to trouble, slipped the wrench and broke the lug nut, making it impossible to change the tyre.

Inquired with a couple of tyre guys and garages nearby and all suggested welding and cutting, but no one was willing to do due to risk factor and one guy was ready if we could rent and bring a welding machine to spot, but only to his convenience. An acquaintance's travel agency was near and managed to park the car inside his compound and hired a cab home.

Car was left there for a few days, but the day came when they had to take the bus out for a trip, and we had to move the car. Called our FNG guy, Dileep. Car was around 35 km away from our home/his garage and he was willing to give a try. Some rust-off, hammering and chiselling and meddling with the lug nut, he managed to remove it in 10 minutes. Installed the spare wheel, filled it up and drove back home.

Damage while removing. Very minimal than what would have happened with other intrusive methods. .
