June 2021 - Front Grill with Logo

Our grille was in good shape and needed only logo and was about to buy the logo, and it costed a whopping ₹1,405. @vishnu vichu only suggested buying the whole grille as it was way cheaper, the one without chrome was even cheaper by a couple of hundreds.

Kairali Ford has always been prompt in delivering spares on time. Grille was ordered at the time of buying logo and reached exactly in a week's time. Chose the one with chrome stripe as it goes well with black colour.

Radiator Grille - 8A39-8200-BD5ZCT - ₹979.00

Again, tons of part numbers. Under part number 9A39-8200-ABZJAC, same grille costs ₹1,237.00.

Made in India, but label printed in China [lol]

Condition of front logo, top layer starts peeling. Could've made a smoked logo out of it.

IMG_20211002_135210.jpg

Dilapidated condition of rear logo, seems previous owner had replaced it with a cheaper fake one.

Ford's secret [evil]. They give confusing and not easy to find oil specs in their manual (WSS-M2C923-A1 or WSS-M2C913-B) and on the other side, they use Shell Helix Ultra Professional 5W30 fully synthetic oil.

Does your owner manual recommends 10W30 oil for petrol engine ? If yes, then how do you procure it? Isn't that difficult to find?
Ford recommended 5W30 for diesel engines of that era.

Ford recommends both 10W30 and 5W30 for petrol (and 5W30 for diesels) and indirectly mentions about using 10W40 (Note: If you operate your vehicle in temperatures below -20°C, you must not use SAE 10W-40 engine oil). [lol]

10W30 is available with many brands, but I think only mineral option is there, Motul 4000, Shell Helix, Mobil Super, Bosch, Petronas, etc.

August 2021 - Got hold on a Boot Lock

Spotted another Fiesta in dilapidated state at a garage not far from home. Had a word with the shop owner, and he bought it as parts car to restore another car and most of the remaining parts were up for sale. He agreed to part the boot lock for ₹ 750, but insisted fitment there as he wanted to make sure it works flawlessly. Went home, and came back in the car.

2021-08-11 16-58-21.jpg

Swapped in no time, but had to wait there for a long time and hear a lot of stories from that old man before he did the job. Surviving government Ambassadors and private Premiers were seen repaired there and also were there out of production cars like Petra, Ikon and Corsa.

Lock was rusty and had oversprays. Worked perfectly, but the unlock click was loud compared to ours.

Looks crude

2021-08-12 17-55-02.jpg

compared to our Made in Korea lock.

2021-04-02 23-49-44.jpg

Full metal casing.

2021-08-12 17-55-09.jpg

Unlock was working properly, but the boot lamp wasn't working, the issue being oxidized terminals.

2021-08-12 17-56-18.jpg

Made by Lectron, Rochester, Michigan. Had some patent over it, patent number 5382763. Google said Electrical switch for automotive vehicle deck lid latches.

2021-08-12 17-59-04.jpg

Had proper emergency boot release mechanism (interior trunk release). Part shared with Lincoln Town Car, model year 1998-02.

2021-08-12 18-10-59.jpg

US version came with SOS cable with glow in dark lever. If someone kidnaps you in your boot, grab the screwdriver from tool kit (if already not flicked by service/wash guy), insert and twist. A key or a coin would also work.

2021-08-12 18-13-41.jpg

Sanded a bit

2021-08-12 18-11-04.jpg

and gave a light coat.

2021-08-12 18-12-06.jpg

Bigger solenoid.

2021-08-12 18-13-56.jpg

Got slot for 2 cables, one for boot key and one for the interior emergency release (SOS).

2021-08-12 18-14-08.jpg

Dirty terminal.

2021-08-12 18-14-25.jpg

Cleaned and boot lamp starts working.

October 2021 - (Finally) Paint Time

After living with all the vandals and brushings, time has come for painting.

2021-10-21 12-32-35.jpg
2021-10-21 12-32-56.jpg

Not a single panel could be saved and we noted colour changes with change in weather.

IMG-20190820-WA0011.jpg

With black colour, finish was the most important requirement. Zeroed to two of the best painters in town. First one was Retro Customz. Very close to our house. Personally seen their works. Quoted ₹30k. Second one was Colour Lounge. Knew them through my cousin, who's working with one of the German trios and these guys used to do contract painting for them before they started in-house painting. His Nano was painted by them and quality was great. They also quoted ₹30-35k with an option of insurance claim for a side. That made us chose the latter, though he was a bit far away from home.

2021-10-21 12-34-01_1.jpg

That place had decent rush. Gave us the estimate and necessary paperwork for insurance and turnaround time of a week post insurance inspection.

2021-10-21 12-48-56.jpg

They had a proper booth

2021-10-21 12-48-46.jpg

and proper equipments.

2021-10-21 12-50-11.jpg

They used Nexa Autocolor 2K paints and did their own mixing. We opted for Volvo's Onyx Black. He got the paint code from Volvo itself and mixed and showed the sample.

Work in progress. He constantly updated via WhatsApp.

April 2019:

Old tank >> Just a recap >> Windscreen Washer Tank Repair

Almost 2 years with the repaired tank and ever since was searching for replacement tank. New one was around ₹ 2800.00. Not readily available at dealer. Then completely forgot about the tank. A friend of mine was on parts hunt for his crashed Fiesta. Asked him to get a washer fluid tank in case he find one cheap. Most of the cars were hit in front LH and tank was damaged in most of the cars he found. Search crossed border and finally found an extremely good specimen at Coimbatore. Got for ₹ 500.00. Came along with washer motor, which the seller forgot to remove and quoted ₹ 800.00 including motor later. Managed to get for ₹ 500.00. Tank cap was missing. Rubber tubing was intact.

Washer Motor
Part number: 2S6T 17K624 AB

Disassembled and gave a thorough wash

Rubber filter. This prevents clogging of the motor.

View attachment 262396 View attachment 262397

Finally the motor. Clicked before cleaning.

View attachment 262398

Removed headlight for proper access. Park light doubled as work light.

View attachment 262399 View attachment 262400

Thanks to the gap between fender lining and strut mount, the whole LH parts were covered in muck. This was common across Fiestas. Dunno why they made such an error.

View attachment 262402

Removing the tank.

First bolt right behind headlight. Old clamp misfit because of thick glue filling the gap for clamp to fit.

View attachment 262401 View attachment 262405

Second bolt accessible behind the fender lining.

View attachment 262403 View attachment 262404

Third and the tricky one. Right at the neck of the reservoir. Only room for an open-ended spanner and little room for even 1/8th of a turn. For proper access, have to remove the battery and compartment.

View attachment 262406

Cleaned the muck.

View attachment 262407

Sealed off the gap with an old tube piece.

View attachment 262408

Old vs new.

View attachment 262409

After the motor in place.

View attachment 262410

There was an easily accessible joint, eliminating the need to strip further.

View attachment 262411

Installed back everything. Did a thorough clean up.

View attachment 262412

And a full bonnet wash.

Remove the two main torx bolts (orange circles), then the plastic retainer clip (green circle) and the 8-mm bolt (blue circle). Nick the clip in pink circle. Pull the bumper forward a bit to make a bit room near headlight.

Now the trickier one, under the light. Forgot the size and type. Removed and threw away the first time itself.

After all these are removed, get a good grip on the light and shake-shake-shake and it will come off. Remove all the connectors or holders and headlight assembly will come off.

I was planning to give for RIM painting at Colour lounge earlier, how's their dealings bro ?
Do they have Tyre remover (From rims)?
Dealing is good. Finishing with minimal to no orange peel.

They don't have tyre remover. They'll mask and paint (so do most of the paint guys).

October 2021 - Panther Black to Onyx Black

In for painting. One of the few places that actually make use of the paint booth. Even some OE dealers boast of 7 layer process and paint under the tree. Insurance claim was rejected as the surveyor was not satisfied. Ended paying full amount from pocket.

2021-10-28 12-59-49.jpg

Final outcome. Not a single imperfection in body lines.

2021-10-30 17-50-30.jpg

Exceeded OE finish with no orange peels. They outsource finishing to another detailer nearby. It was a weekend eve, and they hurried up, missing some places. That was the only fault we could find.

October 2021 - FASTag

The paint shop was located right at the brand-new toll plaza, exact right side of click, on the other side of the highway at the mouth of the service road.

2021-10-30 18-08-52.jpg

I had to return north and Pony had to go south, passing the toll. Just 2-3 km detour can save ₹ 70 (₹140 without tag), but still. Like every toll booth, there was the instant FASTag counter. RC + any KYC document + ₹ 300 and active tag ready in less than 5 mins. They offered to stick in the car, but opted to do it later. Tag worked.

2021-10-30 18-07-37.jpg

IDFC First Bank FASTag. ₹100 usable balance. Balance can be checked by giving a missed call to +919990243331 from the registered mobile.
