Cadillac XT5, XT6 and GMC Acadia Vehicles recalled for Suspensions

About 800 General Motors vehicles are recalled because of rear suspension toe links that may become loose or separate on 2022 Cadillac XT5, XT6 and GMC Acadia vehicles.

GM says the left rear suspension toe link may have been tightened improperly.

GM dealers will inspect the suspensions and replace the fasteners if they are loose or missing.

Owner recall letters are expected to be mailed August 1, 2022.

Ford Issues Safety Compliance recall for F-150 lightning

2022-ford-f-150-lightning.jpg
Ford has announced the company is issuing a recall for certain 2022 Ford F-150 Lightning electric pickup trucks. The safety recall is specifically for vehicles with 20” or 22” all-season tires and is centered on the tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS).

The TPMS light may not illuminate properly which can lead to customers not being provided with adequate warning of a low tire pressure situation. Ford explains that the issue is because the recommended tire cold inflation pressure value in the Body Control Module (BCM) was incorrectly set to 35 psi rather than the correct inflation pressure of 42 psi. Therefore, the warning won't be issued until the tire pressure is lower than 35 psi, 7 lbs lower than the proper warning threshold.

The official notification to dealers will begin today, June 27, and customers will be notified via email and the FordPass mobile app starting tomorrow (June 28). Dealers will update the Body Control Module software for undelivered vehicles and for customers who want the remedy immediately. The update takes the dealership approximately 20 minutes to complete.

Ford will also have the fix available through a Ford "Power-Up" software update in 30 days for all current F-150 Lightning customers. This recall affects 2,666 vehicles in the U.S. and 220 in Canada. There are no accidents or injuries associated with this condition.

Nissan Pathfinder Hood Latch recall follows investigation

nissan-pathfinder-hood-latch-recall-investigation-250.png

A Nissan Pathfinder hood latch recall follows a federal investigation into why the hoods suddenly fly open while driving.
The 2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder hood latch recall involves nearly 360,000 SUVs in the U.S. and Canada.

The government opened an investigation into Pathfinder hood latches in December 2021 after receiving 14 reports which said the hoods opened when the latches failed.

According to Nissan, the hood can open while driving if the primary hood latch is inadvertently released or the hood is not closed properly with the bell crank lever in the open position. Trying to drive your Pathfinder with the hood blocking your view may be a challenge.

"On certain Pathfinder vehicles, dust and dirt contamination may accumulate on and around the bell crank lever pivot joint. Over time, the build-up of contamination combined with a lack of proper inspection and maintenance of the bell crank assembly (as described in the Owner’s Manual), can create mechanical binding that could cause the lever to remain in the open position after it has been disengaged." — Nissan
Nissan also says the contamination can scratch the bell crank protective anti-corrosion coating which allows corrosion of the metal in the pivot joint. Even though the investigation continued for months and Nissan has ordered this recall, the automaker is still trying to figure out how dealerships will repair the Pathfinders.

Nissan will mail interim recall letters to a selected sample of 40,000 Pathfinder owners beginning on June 30, 2022. This hood latch recall letter will invite the owner to bring their Pathfinder to a dealer to have technicians inspect the bell crank and hood lock assembly and replace them if needed. But the replacement parts will be the same hood latches and components as originally installed in the Pathfinders.

The collected components will be used by Nissan to create a recall remedy. Nissan will then mail interim Pathfinder hood latch recall letters to all other affected owners by August 3, 2022. The recall letters will show owners how to properly inspect the bell crank assemblies and hood lock levers for proper operation.

If the lever moves freely, the Pathfinder owner can clean the lever based on the Nissan Pathfinder owner’s manual. The owner can also bring the Pathfinder to a dealer for the cleaning and maintenance.

However, if the levers don't move freely, Nissan Pathfinder owners should take their vehicles to dealers to have the bell crank assemblies and hood lock levers inspected. The dealers will clean and lubricate the parts if the levers are working properly. The components will be replaced with new like-for-like hood latch components if the levers and locks aren't working.

Kia recalls Sorento hybrids to prevent Seat belt pretensioner injuries
Kia exploding seat belt pretensioners have caused another recall to prevent the driver's side and passenger-side pretensioners from harming occupants.

About 18,000 model year 2021-2022 Kia Sorento Hybrid and 2022 Sorento Plug-in Hybrid vehicles are involved in the U.S. and Canada.

The Kia front seat belt pretensioners use pyrotechnics to quickly deploy the pretensioners, but too much pressure of the pretensioner pipes can cause explosions and fires in crashes. According to Kia, metal fragments can fly through the cabins and into the vehicle occupants.

The exploding pretensioner recall includes all 2021 and specific 2022 Kia Sorento Hybrids built between September 2, 2020, and May 18, 2022. And specific 2022 Kia Sorento Plug-in Hybrids were built between June 29, 2021, and May 16, 2022. All the vehicles were built in Korea.

Kia owners who had the seat belt pretensioners replaced under a March 2022 recall will need to contact their Kia dealers to have protective caps installed.

Customers who have not had the March recall repairs performed will not need to have the pretensioners replaced because the repair procedures have been enhanced to secure the seat belt pretensioner micro gas generators and delivery pipes with caps to prevent potential abnormal deployment.

Ford windshield recall includes Broncos and Rangers
A Ford windshield recall involves more than 63,000 model year 2022 Ford Bronco and Ford Ranger vehicles because the windshields may not have been bonded correctly to the vehicles. The inadequate bonding can allow the windshields to detach.

Ford began looking into the windshield problem in April when a Bronco owner had a concern about urethane used on the windshield.

Ford searched the data and discovered eight of 65 vehicles didn't meet Ford's windshield adhesion requirements. Engineers also determined the eight vehicles were built between January 15 to January 25, 2022.

Ford conducted more Bronco windshield tests and 16 additional vehicles were found with windshield problems, but these Broncos were built between January 15 to March 30, 2022.

Ford further found the Ranger windshield installation process is similar to Bronco and three Rangers out of 14 had the same windshield problems. The Rangers were manufactured between January 10 and March 29, 2022.

Ford opened an internal investigation but engineers couldn't reach a conclusion about the cause of the loose windshields. Even though the Ford windshield recall has been announced, engineers still aren't sure what the real problem is. However, no crashes or injuries have been reported.

A Ford driver may notice wind noise or water leaks if the windshield is loose. According to the Ford windshield recall, a customer has until July 25 to be reimbursed if they paid for windshield repairs prior to the recall.

Ford windshield recall notices will be mailed July 11, 2022, and dealers will remove and reinstall the windshields.

Nissan Frontier and Titan Owners warned to use Parking Brakes

More than 180,000 Nissan Frontier and Titan trucks are recalled because they could roll away even when the trucks are shifted into PARK. Nissan is warning 2020-2022 Frontier and Titan owners to engage the parking brakes every time they park their trucks.

Nissan received a report in June 2021 alleging a 2020 Frontier began to move after the driver shifted into PARK, but the dealer was unable to replicate the problem. Nissan took the transmission and sent it to the supplier, JATCO, but the company found no problems.

The automaker thought it was just a random incident until Frontier and Titan warranty claims began arriving. Nissan collected the components but engineers couldn't duplicate the issues, and neither could JATCO. JATCO finally duplicated the problem that was caused by the parking pawls.

"Due to dimensional variation during the manufacturing process, reduced clearance may cause contact between the edge of the parking pawl and the boss on the transmission case, which may result in non-engagement of the parking pawl." — Nissan
Nissan is aware of four allegations of minor injuries.

Nissan is trying to determine how it will repair the Frontier and Titan trucks. Interim Nissan recall letters are expected to be mailed July 20, 2022, and second letters will be mailed once dealers are ready to repair the trucks.

Hyundai Venue recall issued for exploding Pretensioners

A 2020-2022 Hyundai Venue seat belt pretensioner recall involves more than 72,000 SUVs with front pretensioners at risk of exploding. This is an ongoing problem for Hyundai and Kia which have issued previous seat belt pretensioner recalls.

Hyundai first learned of a problem in September 2021 when a 2021 Hyundai Elantra driver-side seat belt pretensioner exploded and sent shrapnel into an occupant's leg. The front seat belt pretensioners use small explosions to quickly tighten the seat belts against occupants in crash impacts.

In December 2021, a pretensioner exploded in a 2020 Hyundai Accent in Puerto Rico, and in February 2022 a seat belt pretensioner exploded in a 2022 Hyundai Elantra in Singapore.

Hyundai Venues had not suffered any pretensioner problems, but the automaker tested the vehicles and learned it was possible for Venue seat belt pretensioners to explode.

The 2021 Hyundai Venue was recalled in October 2021, but this latest recall means those owners will need to return to dealerships. Dealers will secure the seat belt pretensioners with caps once recall letters are mailed August 26, 2022.

Ford Hybrid fire recall

A Ford hybrid fire recall includes about 100,000 Ford Escape, Ford Maverick and Lincoln Corsair vehicles equipped with 2.5-liter hybrid or plug-in hybrid systems.

The 2020-2022 Ford hybrid vehicles are at risk of engine fires if engine oil and fuel vapors build up near ignition sources when the engines fail from crankshaft problems.Ford didn't release much information about the recall and the government hasn't either, but apparently nothing about the recall involves engine failures. However, Ford believes at least 23 underhood engine fires have occurred in the vehicles worldwide.

Ford believes the engines can fail from crankshaft machining problems, but the automaker also believes the chance of an engine failure is rare based on current failure rates of 0.17 repairs per 1,000 hybrid vehicles. Other than the engine fires, Ford isn't aware of any crashes or injuries and owners have not been warned to stop driving the hybrid vehicles or to park them outside.

Ford dealers will make changes to the engine shields and active grille shutters so that more air can flow to reduce temperatures.

Toyota recalls 2022 Tundra and Tundra Hybrid Trucks

About 31,400 Toyota Tundra and Toyota Tundra Hybrid trucks are recalled if they are model year 2022 and equipped with Panoramic View Monitoring systems. Toyota says the front camera image of the monitoring system may display instead of the rear camera image when shifting the truck into REVERSE.

Federal safety regulations require a rearview image to be displayed on the screen when a vehicle is in REVERSE.

According to Toyota, programming problems causes the front image to display, something dealers will allegedly fix by reprogramming the parking assist electronic control units.

Toyota plans on contacting Tundra owners by the middle of August 2022, but the automaker didn't say more about the recall.

Mercedes-Benz recalls EQS 450, EQS 580 and AMG EQS 53

Mercedes-Benz has tow ring problems on 2022 Mercedes-Benz EQS 450, EQS 580 and AMG EQS 53 vehicles with front or rear bumper tow rings that may detach from the vehicles.

Mercedes says about 2,500 vehicles are included because of "insufficient thread depth" of the towing eye thread point.

"In this case, the required thread depth for the tow eye in the bumper might not be sufficient. As a result, it cannot be ruled out that the connection to the tow eye may loosen when installed, increasing the risk of an accident or injury during vehicle loading and transport."
In December 2021, investigations were opened based on an internal finding regarding the tow point which "indicated the usage of an incorrect tow eye in the logistics process of vehicles."

Mercedes says there are no warranty claims, field or service reports or crashes or injuries. Additionally, a driver won't receive any advance notice of a problem. Mercedes-Benz expects to mail recall notices August 30, 2022, and dealers will possibly replace the tow ring assembly threads.

Toyota Tacoma Trucks recalled for Child seat issues

toyota-tacoma-seat-anchor-recall-250.png

A Toyota Tacoma recall involves 2022-2023 Tacoma trucks that may have problems with the upper child seat anchors.

About 75,400 Tacoma trucks are recalled because the upper child seat anchors may not have been welded good enough and may not meet minimum strength requirements.

A faulty Tacoma weld may allow the child seat to move during a sudden stop or crash.

Toyota didn't say much about the Tacoma recall other than to say truck owners will be notified in September 2022, and engineers are trying to determine the best way to repair the trucks.

FCA recalls Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 cars

Chrysler tire pressure monitoring system sensor problems have caused a recall of more than 52,300 model year 2022 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 cars.

According to Fiat Chrysler (FCA), the tire pressure monitoring system sensor battery may fail and cause the sensor to fail.

In May, FCA was notified of possible tire pressure monitoring sensor problems on 2022 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 cars. Specifically, the sensors have batteries that can discharge prematurely and cause the sensors to fail.

This creates a violation of federal safety standards.

"If the TPMS light illuminates because the battery in the sensor prematurely discharges, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning." — Chrysler
Dealerships will replace the tire pressure monitoring system sensors once recall notices are mailed September 2, 2022.

Toyota recalls RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime

toyota-rav4-ocs-sensor-recall-250.png

A Toyota RAV4 recall includes about 3,500 model year 2022 RAV4, RAV4 Hybrid and RAV4 Prime vehicles in the U.S. because of problems with the occupant classification system sensors.

Those sensors are in the front passenger seats but can experience problems that cause issues when the airbags deploy.

Toyota didn't announce many details about the RAV4 recall, but customers will be contacted in September 2022 so dealerships can adjust the stoppers and seat frame assemblies near the sensors and recalibrate the systems.

Porsche recalls 40,000 Taycan EVs

Report says that report more than 40,000 Taycan models which have been sold between 2019 and 2021 could be recalled. This is more than half of all of the Taycans Porsche has sold with the number being around the 80,000 mark.

The issue is related to the wiring harness of the driver’s and passenger’s seats. It has been cited that the wiring harness could be damaged during the longitudinal adjustment of the seat which sounds similar to another recall that the Taycan has already had in China. That time, 6,172 cars were recalled in 2020 and 2021.

Subaru WRX recall for Backup Light and Camera failures

Subaru is recalling 60,000 WRX cars because the backup lights and cameras may fail.

The recall includes 2015-2021 WRX vehicles with backup light switches that may corrode and fail, which can result in the backup lights not illuminating and the rearview camera images not displaying when the vehicles are in REVERSE.

According to Subaru, the backup light switch contacts can be exposed to heated oil, and the sulfur in the oil can cause a chemical reaction with the switch terminal surfaces and plate spring. This can cause corrosion and a film to form on the contacts which blocks electrical connections.

No crashes or injuries have been reported. Subaru WRX recall letters will be mailed September 19, 2022. Subaru dealers will replace the backup light switches if needed.
