GM Driveshaft Recall Includes GMC, Cadillac and Chevy Vehicles

general-motors-driveshaft-recall-(1)-250.png

A General Motors driveshaft recall includes about 1,800 model year 2021 GMC Yukon, Yukon XL, Cadillac Escalade, Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Suburban and Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles.

The rear driveshaft assemblies may have components that were not heat-treated properly. This may cause the driveshaft to fail and leave the vehicle stranded.

GM says a supplier may have not properly applied heat treatment to certain components inside the driveshafts. This can cause those components to deform and cause noise and vibration.

Over time the joint in the driveshaft can seize and the vehicle can lose drive power.

GM dealerships will replace one or both of the rear driveshaft assemblies, but the automaker doesn't know when recall notices will be mailed.

Chevy owners may call 800-222-1020, Cadillac customers can call 800-458-8006 or GMC owners may call 800-462-8782.

Tesla Recalls 898,000 Vehicles Over Seat Belt Chimes

Tesla is recalling nearly 898,000 vehicles because the seat belt warning chimes may fail in certain circumstances.
The recalled vehicles include 2021-2022 Tesla Model S and Model X, 2017-2022 Tesla Model 3 and 2020-2022 Tesla Model Y vehicles with audible chimes that may not activate when the vehicles start and the drivers have not buckled their seat belts.

Federal safety standards require the audible seat belt reminder chime to activate when the vehicle starts if the driver seat belt is not buckled.

Tesla says a software error can prevent the chime from activating in certain conditions, limited to circumstances where the chime was interrupted in the preceding drive cycle and the seat belt was not buckled subsequent to that interruption.

Although the reason for the chime is to remind drivers to buckle their seat belts, Tesla is not aware of any injuries or fatalities related to this condition. And even though the chime may not make a sound, a driver will still see a visual warning on the dash.

Tesla learned about the software problem in January from researchers in South Korea, but engineers determined the problem could be fixed by a software update without taking the vehicle to Tesla technicians.

"Firmware release 2021.43.101.1, which includes this remedy, was introduced in Model 3 and Model Y production on January 27, 2022, and in Model S and Model X production on January 28, 2022. Separately, firmware release 2022.4.5, which also includes this remedy, will deploy over-the-air (“OTA”) to delivered vehicles in early February 2022. No further action is necessary from owners whose vehicles are equipped with firmware release 2021.43.101.1 or 2022.4.5 or a later release."
Tesla says about 80,363 of the vehicles are recalled in Canada.

Owner recall notices will be mailed April 1, 2022, and Tesla will perform over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

According to Audi, the rear axle alignments may not have been inspected after repairs were performed during a May 2021 recall.

Following the 2021 rear axle recall, Audi learned about European vehicles that were suffering from premature and uneven tire wear. Audi engineers opened an investigation but couldn't find any U.S. vehicle problems.

However, the automaker says the recall is needed because problems may still occur if the rear axle alignments weren't properly inspected.

Audi is offering a reimbursement plan to customers who paid their own money for repairs or dealer visits.

About 4,361 of the recalled Audi vehicles are located in Canada.

Audi dealerships will adjust the rear axle alignment and replace any tires that are worn.

Audi recall notices are expected to be mailed March 25, 2022, but concerned owners may call 800-253-2834 and use recall number 42L5.

Tesla Recalls Nearly 579,000 U.S. Vehicles Over Pedestrian Warning Risk Sounds

Tesla Inc is recalling 578,607 vehicles in the United States because pedestrians may be unaware of an approaching vehicle if warning risk sounds are obscured, U.S. regulators said Thursday.

Under increasing scrutiny from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla has issued 10 U.S. recalls over the last four months.

The electric vehicle manufacturer is recalling some 2020-2022 Model S, Model X, Model Y, and 2017-2022 Model 3 vehicles because the "Boombox function" allows sounds to be played through an external speaker while the vehicle is in motion.

Hyundai ABS Module Fire Recall Announced

A Hyundai ABS module fire recall includes more than 425,000 vehicles that should be parked outside and away from anything flammable.

Recalled are 2016-2018 Santa Fe, 2017-2018 Santa Fe Sport, 2019 Santa Fe XL and 2014-2015 Tucson vehicles with anti-lock brake system modules that could suffer from electrical short circuits.
The ABS module malfunction could cause an engine fire, something that has already occurred to a few owners.

Hyundai Canada learned about an overheated ABS module on a 2014 Tucson in September 2020 which caused the automaker to open an investigation. While the investigation was going on, Hyundai learned about a lawsuit concerning a U.S. incident in July 2020.

By June 2021, Hyundai engineers still had not found a root cause for the thermal damage on returned ABS modules, then in July a 2018 Santa Fe Sport in the U.S. had the same problem that caused a recall of 203,500 model year 2013-2015 Santa Fe Sport SUVs.

At that time Hyundai knew of at least 18 fires caused by ABS modules, but the recall didn't include 2017-2018 Santa Fe Sports.

Engineers tested the ABS module recovered from the Santa Fe Sport and found signs of an internal micro-leak likely caused by foreign contaminants in the valve body.

Hyundai and a third-party company then found foreign contaminants in more ABS modules. Hyundai engineers were confused because some of the modules were manufactured in Korea while other ABS modules were manufactured in the U.S.

Hyundai says the electrical short-circuit can cause a large overcurrent in the ABS module which can cause an engine fire whether the vehicle is parked or on the road.

Even though the ABS module recall has been issued, "Hyundai is actively investigating and will continue efforts recovering incident parts to determine the root cause(s)."

A Hyundai driver should be aware of burning or melting odors, illuminated warning lights and any smoke from the engine compartment.

However, Hyundai claims owners can continue to drive the vehicles. Just park outside and away from anything that could catch fire.

More than 67,000 of the Hyundai vehicles are recalled in Canada.

Hyundai ABS module recall notices are expected to be mailed April 5, 2022, but owners should park outside and away from anything that could burn, at least until dealers replace the ABS fuses and possibly replace the ABS modules.

The replacement ABS multi-fuse is rated at a lower amperage to limit the operating current of the ABS module.

Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Recall Issued After 12 Fires

chrysler-pacifica-hybrid-recall-12-fires-250.png

A Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid recall includes more than 19,800 minivans following reports of 12 fires among model year 2017-2018 Pacifica Hybrids.

Owners of the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans are advised to not charge the vehicles and to park them away from anything that could catch fire.

Stellantis (Chrysler) doesn't know what is causing the fires which were discovered during an internal investigation into fires that occurred when all the minivans were turned off. However, eight of the fires occurred while the Pacifica Hybrids were connected to chargers.

Chrysler says it doesn't know of any crashes or injuries related to the fires.

The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid recall includes about 16,741 minivans in the U.S., 2,317 minivans in Canada and another 750 vehicles outside North America.

Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid owners should watch for recall notices in February, but the automaker doesn't know when recall repairs will be available.

Mercedes-Benz Metris Recall: Brake Fluid May Leak

A Mercedes-Benz Metris recall involves more than 28,700 vans that may leak brake fluid from incorrectly mounted brake fluid reservoirs, causing drivers to lose braking performance.

The recalled 2016-2021 Mercedes-Benz Metris brake fluid reservoirs may completely detach from the vans.

A Metris driver may see illumination of a brake warning light in the instrument cluster or notice a gradual softening of brake pedal resistance.

Mercedes made changes in October 2021 which require a green verification check mark be applied following the post-installation visual inspection and test of the brake fluid reservoir.

Mercedes Metris recall notification letters are expected to be mailed March 28, 2022.

Mercedes-Benz Metris dealers will check the brake fluid reservoirs for proper mounting and ensure they are installed correctly.

Land Rover Evoque SUVs Recalled Over Airbag Warning Lights

2020-range-rover-rvoque-recall-250.png

A Land Rover Range Rover Evoque airbag warning light recall includes more than 18,800 model year 2020 vehicles with incorrectly programmed supplemental restraint system (SRS) warning light software.

Land Rover says the Range Rover Evoque airbag warning light may intermittently illuminate because the diagnostic check for the airbag is too sensitive.

The problem affects only the driver-side airbag, and Land Rover says even with the error the airbag will deploy as intended.

However, a driver won't know if the airbag is truly malfunctioning if the warning light mistakenly activates and then deactivates at random.

Land Rover Range Rover Evoque airbag warning light recall notices will be mailed April 14, 2022, and dealers will update the restraint control module software.

Ford Mustang Backup Camera Recall Follows Warranty Claims

ford-mustang-backup-camera-recall-250.png
A Ford Mustang backup camera recall involves more than 330,000 cars that may have rearview camera wiring that may be damaged or loose.

The recalled 2015-2017 Mustang camera image screens can distort or go blank if the backup camera or wiring harness is damaged.

More than 7,000 warranty claims have been filed for the 2015 Mustang alone.

In September 2021, Ford opened an investigation into high repair rates of Magna backup cameras installed in 2015 Mustangs and learned about an unauthorized change made by a sub-supplier.

Ford found the supplier made changes to the printed circuit board tool which decreased the contact forces of the terminals. This caused fretting corrosion on the terminal header. But Ford also found a damaged solder oven at Magna which may have also contributed to backup camera failures.

According to Ford, at least 1,463 warranty claims had been filed by December 14, 2021, alleging damage to the trunk lid wiring harnesses on 2015-2017 Mustangs. By January 20, 2022, at least 7,000 warranty claims had been filed for backup camera problems on 2015 Ford Mustangs.

The automaker says it is aware of two alleged minor crashes but no reports of injuries have been received.

According to Ford, the recalled backup camera wiring harnesses were first used on February 22, 2014, until October 2, 2017. As for the recalled backup cameras, they were first installed in the Mustangs May 12, 2014, and taken out of production February 28, 2015.

Ford Mustang owners who paid their own money for repairs may be eligible for reimbursement until April 29, 2022.

Ford Mustang recall notices will be mailed March 7, 2022, but replacement parts may not be available until later. Mustang owners will receive second letters once those parts are available.

Kia Optima Fuel Line Recall Issued For Second Time

kia-optima-fuel-line-recall-250.png

A Kia Optima fuel line recall includes more than 72,000 cars that were recalled in 2020 for the same fuel leak problems.
The 2013-2014 Kia Optima cars have low-pressure fuel hoses that may be damaged or missing heat protection tape.

The Kia Optima fuel lines could leak, but the automaker says no fires have been reported since the first February 2020 recall.

The recalled 2013-2014 Kia Optimas are equipped with 2.4L gasoline direct injection (GDI) and 2.0L GDI Turbo engines built from November 15, 2012, through December 18, 2013.

According to Kia, the 2020 Optima recall repairs may not have been performed properly by dealerships.

"In some cases, the low pressure fuel tube may not have been properly repaired with heat protective tape after inspection revealed no damage or leak. In some other cases, the low pressure fuel tube was repaired with heat protective tape instead of being replaced even though damage might be present." — Kia Optima fuel line recall documents
Months after the 2020 recall, Kia learned about a fuel leak on a 2013 Optima that had allegedly been repaired during the fuel line recall.

Engineers found a problem with a quick connect fitting, leading Kia to tell dealers to inspect the rotation of the quick connect fitting and replace the low-pressure fuel line if the fitting rotates with low resistance.

Kia believes some dealers simply didn't follow the recall instructions, something that has caused 155 warranty claims and 12 customer complaints. However, there are no post-recall crash, injury or fire reports.

Kia dealers will replace the low-pressure fuel hoses with new hoses made of a different material with protective sleeves and connectors with increased stress and heat resistance.

Kia Optima fuel line recall notices will be mailed April 15, 2022.

Tesla Recalls 26,681 U.S. Vehicles Over Windshield Defrosting Software

Tesla Inc is recalling 26,681 vehicles in the United States because a software error may result in windshield defrosting problems, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Wednesday.

Tesla told U.S. regulators the error may cause a valve in the heat pump to open unintentionally and trap the refrigerant inside the evaporator. Tesla will perform an over-the-air software update to address the issue.

The recall covers some 2021-2022 Model 3, Model S, Model X, and 2020-2022 Model Y vehicles that may not comply with a federal motor vehicle safety standard. It is the latest in a string of recent recalls for the Texas-based EV manufacturer.

Tesla said it was not aware of any injuries or crashes related to its latest recall but NHTSA said it could reduced windshield visibility in certain conditions, which may

Audi e-tron GT Cars Recalled Twice For Different Problems

Two 2022 Audi e-tron GT recalls have been announced for about 2,000 cars with two different problems.
In one recall, the owner's manuals may list the incorrect 2022 Audi e-tron GT tire pressures for more than 1,100 cars.

Audi discovered the problem in November 2021 and opened an investigation to determine why the manuals were wrong.

According to Audi, the units for the values of the tire pressure table in the owner's manual (kPa and PSI) are in the wrong columns and don't match the accurate numbers.

However, the tire pressure information on the B-pillar “Tire and Loading Information” label is correct.

Model year 2022 Audi e-tron GT cars built after December 6, 2021, have received the owner's manual insert with the corrected tire pressure table, and 2023 Audi e-tron GT cars will receive correct owner's manuals.

Audi is not aware of any complaints, warranty claims, crashes or injuries due to the mistake.

Audi e-tron GT recall notice letters are expected to be mailed April 15, 2022.

The correct tire pressure table will be provided to Audi e-tron GT customers as an insert to the vehicle owner's manuals.

Audi e-tron GT owners who have questions should contact Audi at 800-853-2834. Audi's recall reference number is 06E7.

2022 Audi e-tron GT (Child Seat Issues)
In a second 2022 Audi e-tron GT recall, more than 850 cars are recalled because the center seat belt buckle wiring harnesses may cause problems when trying to secure child seats. Audi says the wiring harnesses may block access to the right rear seat lower child seat anchors.

This can prevent a child in a car seat from being harmed in a collision.

About 160 of the recalled cars are in Canada.

Audi e-tron GT recall notices are expected to be mailed April 15, 2022, and dealers will reroute and secure the center rear seat belt buckle wiring harnesses and replace any damaged buckles.

Porsche Taycans Recalled For Child Seat Problems

porsche-taycan-seat-belt-buckle-recall-250.png

Porsche is recalling 2020-2021 Taycans for child seat problems, with 5,305 Taycans recalled in the U.S. and 778 recalled in Canada. Porsche says the Taycan vehicles are equipped with optional rear center seats.
The problem is the center seat belt buckle wiring harness that may block access to the right rear seat lower child seat anchors.

Porsche says it's rare, but the Taycan wiring harness to the center rear seat belt buckle may have been routed incorrectly during assembly and could pass in the location of the inboard LATCH anchor for the passenger rear outboard seat. This can prevent a child seat from being secured properly.

Porsche learned of the issue in July 2021 and opened an investigation to determine how many vehicles were affected. Porsche couldn't find any complaints about using child seats, but the automaker estimated about 2% of 2020-2021 Taycans may be affected.

A Porsche Taycan driver will likely be able to see a problem with the LATCH anchor.

Porsche isn't aware of any warranty claims, customer complaints or injuries associated with this issue.

Porsche dealers will inspect the harness positioning and secure it if necessary, and dealers will need to replace any damaged seat belt buckles.

Porsche Taycan recall notices are expected to be mailed April 22, 2022.

Mercedes Metris Backup Camera Failures Cause Recall

mercedes-benz-metris-backup-camera-recall-(1)-250.png

A Mercedes Metris recall includes more than 17,000 model year 2015-2018 Mercedes-Benz Metris vans that may have rearview camera image issues.
Mercedes says a defective memory chip in the backup camera may cause the camera display image to freeze.

With the display screen image frozen, drivers won't see accurate images of the areas behind the Metris vans.

Mercedes Metris owners began filing complaints in April 2020 regarding frozen backup camera images. An investigation was opened and the supplier was sent components that had been removed from the vans.

Several months passed and engineers finally replicated the problem, but they couldn't determine what was causing the frozen backup camera images.

The supplier and Mercedes eventually determined there were defects in the camera memory chips which can cause the processors to crash and freeze the display screens.

"After additional testing conducted by the supplier and MBAG, the supplier determined that two failure paths could potentially lead to a frozen image. In approximately 80 % of cases, the failure occurs during the camera calibration process during vehicle operation (background operation of rearview camera during forward travel at the rate of 3 to 19 mph). In the remaining 20 % of cases, the failure occurs, when the camera is switched on while the vehicle remains stationary or speed is below 3 mph." — Mercedes

Mercedes also determined the backup camera screens are more likely to freeze in cold outdoor temperatures.

Mercedes-Benz dealers will replace the backup cameras one replacement parts are available, but until then interim Metris recall notices will be mailed March 21, 2022, and dealers will update the backup camera software.

The software update will allegedly significantly lower the probability of failure, but even if a failure occurs the software update is supposed to cause a black display screen instead of a frozen screen image.

Mercedes-Benz says the replacement backup cameras have updated computer memory chips.
