Airbags arent in my list. I'm only concerned with performance and feel good factor which was missing in 400nm, looks they missed the right tune of 400nm with extra PS, i dont feel any difference or peppy of extra Horse power. I believe I will end up with EX version, as its got the smooth buttery self adjusting clutch which is good enough and will suffice. As you right said will use extra bucks for Alloys, Touch Infotainment with ICE upgrade and DRL's .
EX is the best choice in Storme (now that LX version is being killed by Tata) It has the basic features required read
1. Decent ICE
2. ABS
3. Overhead AC
4. Floor AC
5. Fog lights and Rear wiper
6. Armrest (very useful during long lazy relaxed drives)
7. Height adjustment in seats.

VX I feel has nothing substantial to offer other than the 6th gear (which I would love to have in all Stormes)

Yeap EX makes absolute VFM considering the fact that in Hyderabad, Post budget effective prices for EX is 15lks and VX is 17lks. So thats quite some money for EX too ! Its getting costlier day by day !
Have someone heard about ECU remap for Storme which can achieve 400nm torque? Just wondering if I can get EX and get it remapped little later after running on stock !

Well remap can be done but I guess the existing engine is also pretty powerful and no need for the same. You can always do that but once you have clocked around 30-40 K on the odo after the engine is run-in a bit. However that may void the warranty. so I will not suggest the engine remap.

When i was in the market the EX was costing around 12.9 on road. I had limited funds and settled for the LX which costed me 11.8 OTR after all discounts etc.

Its your choice, of course, but Airbags should be on your list all the time. I'd rather not have a touchscreen infotainment system which is actually quite cumbersome to use on the move, but some essential and proven safety features are a must. Some of the so called glossy features like touchscreen infotainment (maps is fine though), auto-folding ORVMs and keyless entry are pretty much useless. I have both those in my various cars, but am certainly not the worse off without them. You get bored of it after the initial few weeks.

This depends if the factory HU has RCA Pre-Outs or Sub Outs
i did this for my XUV 500-
DIY Dual woofer setup (Hidden and Underseat)

if the factoty HU does not have RCA outs, you will need a line level converter, And have to set Crossovers correctly for Bass Frequencies.

Thank you ! I have some plans to go around adventurous trips across India and it also includes some off-roading aswell, for which I want 4X4 to be a mandatory just to overcome those hurdles, without hassle.

I'm still awaiting for my beast, hopefully in next 10days it should be in my hands. Will keep the thread updated.

Thank you VikyJoshi, do we have any PDI document specific for Storme? Please share me if you have any. TIA

Friends,

Update
NEW DELHI: The Army will replace its iconic Maruti Gypsy fleet with a new range of SUVs, having selected the Tata Safari Storme for an initial order of close to 3,200 vehicles, which could increase 10-fold in the coming years.

The army has over 30,000 Maruti Gypsy vehicles in service and will progressively replace them starting next year.

“The initial order is for 3,198 new SUVs but the total number is likely to go much beyond that.

Yesterday, i had been to KHT motors showroom in bangalore, got a chance to see the HEXA in flesh. Hexa is mechanically very good compared to Storme and even fit and finish. But is it only for me storme feels good after sitting in her lap. By the way iam a die hard fan Safari from my child hood.

High seating position is good in safari. If the same mechanicals are provided in the storme, then definitely it will pull some more nos to the tata motors. Its my perception.

Hoping good. :-)

Tata Safari STORME’s into the Indian Army with the initial order for 3192 units

Tata Motors reiterates its position as a leading supplier to Defence Mobility solutions to Indian Armed forces

GS800 Safari Storme.jpg

New Delhi, April 27, 2017: Tata Motors has signed a contract for supply of 3192 units of the Tata Safari Storme 4x4 to the Indian Armed Forces, under a new category of vehicles - GS800 (General Service 800). The Indian Ministry of Defence (MOD) had floated an RFP for vehicles with three basic criteria – minimum payload capacity of 800 kgs; hard roofs and air conditioning. Developed indigenously, the Tata Safari Storme 4x4 has completed a total trial duration of fifteen months in various terrains across the country, demonstrating supreme performance in the most demanding conditions with capabilities of coping with extreme on or off-road terrains.

Tata Motors’ foray into Defence is progressing exactly as per the plan. First a replacement of Tatra by Tata High Mobility Vehicle 6x6 in the 10 Tonne class, and now a replacement of Maruti Gypsy by Tata Safari Storme in the 4x4 light vehicle category, reiterates Tata Motors’ position as a leading supplier of defence mobility solutions to the Indian Armed Forces.

Commenting on the recently bagged order, Vernon Noronha, Vice President, Defence & Government Business, Tata Motors Limited said, “We are very proud to have received this prestigious order for over 3000 units of the Safari Storme under the newly formed GS800 category. Tata Motors has been a leading supplier of mobility solutions to the Indian Armed Forces and this order is a testimony to our partnership with the country’s security forces. This variant of the Storme has been modified from the one available for civilians with an upgraded drivetrain and significantly modified suspension. The Safari Storme was conceived and designed keeping in mind the need for a rugged, comfortable and reliable vehicle, making it popular with law enforcement agencies. We will shortly commence delivery of these vehicles for the Army and Navy in a phased manner.”

Introduced in 2012, the Safari Storme boasts of superior on-road and off-road capabilities and robust all round performance, providing the customers with an un-matched driving experience. With a renewed power of 156 PS & 400 Nm torque the Storme provides easy drivability, swifter response and lower NVH (Noise, Vibration and Harshness), with superior fuel efficiency and best-in-class ground clearance of 200mm. The 4X4 variant also features ESOF (electronic shift-on-fly) technology, enabling engagement of the 4X4 or 4X2 mode on the move.

Tata Motors’ Defence Solutions offers its customers a wide range of vehicles in the light, medium and heavy category. These include Logistics, Tactical, Armored and Specialist vehicles, with lowest life-cycle maintenance cost, supported by the company’s vast pan-India service network, ensuring maximum operational readiness.

Tata Motors has been associated with the country’s off-road defence and security forces, since 1958 and has supplied over 1,50,000 vehicles to the Indian Military and Paramilitary forces, so far. The company offers products and services that not only meet the needs of the domestic market, but are also positioned to meet most stringent requirements across the world. Tata Motors exports its range of specialized defence vehicles to the SAARC, ASEAN and African regions. With Tata Motors’ rich portfolio in multi-axle range like 12×12, 8×8 & 6×6, the company has started supplying to leading Missile OEMs across the world. The company has also established itself as a supplier of specialist vehicles for UN peacekeeping missions.

Tata Motors’ range of off-road vehicles are also being procured by the agencies involved in AID & Development, across the world like GSA, KBR, Oxfam, RONCO, RA International & Riders. The company also has the ability to mobilize adequate manufacturing capacity for Defence requirements, along with dedicated exclusive infrastructure, manufacturing facilities and trained man power, to ensure faster delivery of its deface and peace-keeping vehicles.

Amazing!
Way to Go Tata!

You know what I was also envious that Indore Police has a LARGE fleet of Storme 4x4s. And you can see them patrolling the roads quite frequently. Lucky policemen.

BTW I am interested in Knowing what Mods/Strengthening they used to Make the vehicle fit for Military purpose, And if the same can be replicated in Civilian model for the ultimate overland/ off road vehicle!
