Today I got a chance to go out of town for a visit to a relative 45kms away from my home. This is the average fuel efficiency figures I got.
Total distance travelled 90 kms.
I drove mostly in 4th and 5th gear, with occasional 3rd gear in slower traffic. So not even once 6th gear used in this drive.
I drove in city mode throughout. I never ever use economy mode.

I must say Tata has tuned this engine very well !! Its a hoot to drive on open roads. Also lots of low end grunt for the city traffic.

So finally the original battery was replaced today as the car was experiencing weak cranking. The original battery lasted more than 5 years !! Obviously I am satisfied with the performance.
Both old and new battery are Amaron make and both have same specs : 50AH/ 50 DIN

After my Ladakh trip, I have noticed that little bit of oil droplets coming out from dipstick hole if I remove dipstick in idle engine. No oil droplets while giving a bit of throttle. My research concluded that it is classic example of "engine blow by initial phase" but when I spoke to service engineer, he said it is normal for diesel nexon. There is no loss of engine oil or drop in performance and mielage. Any diesel owner can confirm the same while removing dipstick in idle engine? @mayankdixit sir?

I have not done this in my Nexon so far. I will do it tomorrow and let you know about the results.
It may be due to:
1) Bad/clogged PCV valve( petrol engine)
2) Overfilled engine oil
3) Old worn out/very high mileage engine.

Apparently newer Nexons have 55AH battery, as many queries are coming up for correct battery specifications. As far as my knowledge is concerned there is not even 3mm space left for battery upgrade. That Nexon tray is jampacked full !!
Maybe in later versions they put up a larger battery base plate. One more issue is that this cloth/fabric tie strap is tied up with bracket bolts which are anchored at a specific location only. They cannot be moved back and forth leaving no scope for battery size change. It has to be the exact same size battery as the factory version.

Following pictures will make it clearer.
Battery tie strap is fabric material

And just to think about how our distinguished and honoured member bhvm upgraded his Safari battery from the factory setup to such a large size and amperage !!
Here I am struggling with just 5ah increase.
I wonder how bhvm could achieve this. His YouTube video (which is awesome BTW) tried to explain that, but still.
I am also worried about how the car will be impacted by such major changes in factory setup.

Nothing as such noticed on my 14 year old safari or 9 year old XUV 500.
It might be possible that Nexon has a peculiar splash design which is spraying oil forcefully up the tube.

Classic cars were lumbering elephants. A few cms here or there would not matter. Be it engine bay or body panel gaps!
Things are much more tight now. Also cost optimized.

On the other hand, its possible that export Safari which goes to Italy had larger batteries to help with the cold start. Hence the space.
The only effects I notice are positive.

My 3.0L safari had a dual battery setup along with a 800va Inverter. That was quite a stellar setup in 2006 as you could run & charge 230V Home appliances in the car!
I had carried my PC & Creative 7.1 speakers a few times on test runs.

Please explain this. You mean to say that this dual battery set up with 800va invertor was done by you as aftermarket ,right??
If you mean that it was an OEM setup, than that makes me very-very curious. Never heard of it. Or seen it anywhere !!

Gear shift knob Nexon : deterioration and replacement.
I had been noticing the shift knob gradually becoming soft and squishy. Rubber started to peel around the edges. It was feeling very uncomfortable while driving. Fingernails were getting buried in the soft rubber. I replaced it with original part.
Removing the knob is straight forward job. There is no lock or anything. Pull up straight and it comes out.

I could have postponed the new replacement, and could have persisted with the older knob for another year, but I think I lost patience and went ahead for replacement.

Cause of so early disintegration of Knob : maybe the excessive use of different types of sanitizers during Corona era ( and even now I am using it).
I did not approach the Tata ASS for warranty claim as I half expected them to refuse citing wear and tear part clause.

.
Surprised to see that no other touch points got affected with sanitizer, if at all it's the real cause. No effect on handbrake and steering. Door pads and dash board plastic is unharmed too. Door opener latches both inside and outside are alright too.
