Tata Vista based Crossover

More details about the Vista based crossover,Autocar reports:Tata Vista-based crossover unveiled | News | Autocar India

Alongside the recent launch of its Vista D90 hatchback, Tata Motors also showcased a concept for a crossover based on the Vista, called the Vista D90 Xtreme.

The crossover is conceptualised in the same vein as the Skoda Fabia Scout and the upcoming VW CrossPolo, in that it is a standard hatchback with slightly raised suspension (25mm in this case) and a number of cosmetic touches, like a tailgate-mounted spare wheel, to give it the appearance of an SUV. For the D90 Xtreme, additional touches include black cladding on the bumpers and below the doors, roof rails, flared wheelarches and larger, 16-inch alloy wheels.

Interestingly, unlike most SUVs, which mount the wheel directly on the tailgate, the Vista D90 Xtreme’s spare is mounted on a swingarm that is hinged to the rear bumper, beneath the hatch. This was done to avoid tailgate rattle, and to keep the hatch door light enough to lift open easily. And since the spare wheel is not counted in the car’s overall length (which is the same as the standard hatchback’s) the car will still qualify for sub-four-metre small car excise benefits.
On the inside, the car gets black leather seats with yellow stitching, and an aluminium-effect gearlever and pedals.

Under the bonnet, the standard Vista D90’s 89bhp, 1.3-litre, variable-geometry turbo-equipped Quadrajet engine has been modified to produce 104bhp. Our sources tell us the modifications have been carried out in-house by Tata Motors, with a little help from Abarth, Fiat’s performance division. [clap][clap][clap]The tweaks include a modified exhaust, a remapped ECU and an optimised turbocharger.

With SUVs having gained huge popularity in recent years, and the potential to cash in on the government’s small-car excise benefits, the sub-four-metre crossover segment is fast becoming one of the most popular. Mahindra’s Quanto has already seen a lot of success and Ford’s upcoming EcoSport is easily one of the most anticipated launches of 2013. A production version of the D90 Xtreme is set to go on sale by the end of the year, with prices expected to be around Rs 80,000 more than a similarly specced Vista hatchback.

Re: Scoop: Tata Motors Considering Compact SUV Based on X1 Platform

@theferrarifan as rightly mentions the xtreme concept does not look like the SUV or other MPVs.

Although it would have specs comparable to Ford Ecosport, the shape like hatch would clearly make it a costly hatch. Tata will then be making similar mistake that they did with aria.

Aam Junta will see what is outside and not what is inside. See the classic case of Aria (percieved as Innova look alike) Also Ertiga was also compared to innova. and that too cheaper than innova. (this is what I have heard from my friend who actually purchased ertiga.) "This is smaller version of Innova. it is cheap and hence we bought it" These were the words.

Tata should come up with some change in design for the sub 4 meter concept. More SUVish feel would be great !! (IMO)

@vikyjoshi: This car is only a filler, until the X1 based compact SUV(which will indeed look like an SUV:new body panels and all),will come to take upon the likes of Duster and Ecosport. The D90 Xtreme is nothing but adventure version of Vista, which has been designed to lure the youth and connect them with brand "Vista" as it is perceived in the market as a family car,IMO.

Tata Motors plans to launch new products in UV segment

Tata Motors BSE 2.48 % is plotting a fightback in the utility vehicle segment against homegrown rival Mahindra, with plans to launch a slew of products, which could even incorporate technology from JLR.

The company, which is a distant second to Mahindra & Mahindra in the utility vehicle segment, is introducing a stripped-down version of its Aria model priced at Rs 9.95 lakh.

"We definitely have lost a bit of ground but we will get back with new products. There are lots of projects in the pipeline and we want to be a significant player in the UV segment," Tata Motors Head, Utility Vehicle Product Group (passenger car business unit), Ashesh Dhar told reporters here.

He was speaking on the sidelines of the of 3rd International Bus and Utility Show 2013 here.

While he did not divulge the new products in the pipeline, Dhar said the company has introduced a base variant of the multi-purpose vehicle Aria starting with the South Indian market and model will now be available at a price range of Rs 9.95 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.

When asked if Tata Motors could use technology from JLR for UV products in the mass market, he said: "We have a lot of leverage from them (JLR). We will use it (technology) but whether it would be in a straightway form or in a different form, or whether it would be a mass market or a high end model would depend on the products."

He said at present the sub-Rs 12 lakh segment in the UV category is the fastest growing and the company will also have its focus there.

Dhar said Tata Motors enjoys around 12 per cent of the utility vehicles segment in India with monthly sales averaging around 5,000 units.

Mahindra & Mahindra, on the other hand, sells 25,000 units of utility vehicles a month on an average.

"We are definitely looking to increase our UV sales as we want to be a significant player in the segment. Our Sumo range is doing about 3,000 units a month while the Safari Storme has clocked 2,000 units last month," he added.

In the April to January period this fiscal, Dhar said the company's UV sales have grown by around 10 per cent to around 38,000 units.

Tata Nexon compact SUV’s production timeline revealed by TATA Officials:

tata-nexon-concept_4.jpg

Just days ago, Tata Motors showcased the Nexon compact SUV concept at the 2014 Indian Auto Expo to rave initial impressions. Now, Tata Motors has officially revealed a production timeframe for this concept. According to Ranjit Yadav – the stand-in president of Tata Motors’ passenger vehicles business unit – the Nexon will hit production in the next 24 months. Therefore, by early 2016, expect to see the Nexon compact SUV concept’s production version to roll onto Indian streets.

tata-motors-suv-nexon.jpg

The Nexon compact crossover is based on a modified version of Tata Motors’ age-old X1 platform, whose first product was the first-gen Indica hatchback that was launched a decade and half ago, in 1998. Ever since, the X1 platform has played host to a flurry of passenger cars in the hatchback and sedan segments. However, the Nexon represents the first instance of the X1 platform underpinning a compact crossover/SUV.

In concept guise, the Nexon is powered by a 1.2 liter turbocharged petrol engine good for 108 Bhp-170 Nm. The gearbox is a 5 speed semi-automatic item, now that Tata Motors has jumped onto the automated manual transmission in a big way. Both front wheel drive and all wheel drive options are likely to be made available on the production version of the Nexon compact crossover/SUV. Measuring under 4 meters in length, the Nexon will qualify as a small car in India.

With Tata Motors developing a new range of turbo diesel engines for its future cars, one such unit from the new crop of diesel motors is likely to be shoehorned into the Nexon’s engine bay. Of course, Tata Motors will have the tried and tested, 1.3 liter Fiat Multijet option (90 Bhp-200 Nm) to fall back on as a back up option. The production-spec Nexon will seat 5 and will go neck-to-neck with the likes of the Ford EcoSport and the Renault Duster in terms of price and positioning.

Where did you get this info from?

Are you sure X1 platform debuted in 1998?

As per my knowledge. X1 is an all new platform that debuted in 2008.

Then platform debuted ion 1998 was the X0 which underpins the first gen Indica, Indigo and CS. This vehicle is built on the latest gen and modern X1 platform, hosting the Vista & Manza, built by 'Tailored black ends with Cross wielding technology' now currently in use in most of the cars across the world. Mostly, someone misquoted it, which was copied by our colleague.

I am sure this car is ready and TATA Motors should have thought it wise to show it as concept, rather than the actual vehicle. If shown now, it will kill the cat with curiosity before been launched like the ARIA.

I guessed it, because it is not at possible for all the specification to be out even before even testing begins. If you note even the fuel efficiency is out, but the efficiency of the BOLT and ZEST are not yet released.

Re: Nexon: Tata Motors Compact SUV Based on X1 Platform

Tata Motors has already developed and tested athe 1405 cc engine since 1998. They have been refining the engine since then. They have also made it a point to develop multiple engine options with the same piston set up so that the cost of development will be cheap and will be quick. The 1196cc petrol engine, the XETA and the Nano's engine block are derived from the same set up.

So at present Tata engineering is revolved around the same engine block. Now they have been concentrating on the metallurgy to keep it lighter and more resistant to heat and wear and tear. The 1.2 revetron block is a product of such upgradation. More engine options are to come out of same.

My thinking is that they need to develop an all aluminum engine block. Coz they need to reduce the weight to reduce the weight of the car overall. Remember that the weight of the Toyota Etios diesel engine block is just 99 kgs. Tata engineers need to come near that Point to obtain better fuel efficiency.

i think this 3Cylinder 1197cc 12Valves DOHC VVT turbo charged pretrol engine from TATA Nexon is an All Aluminum engine block this see the details in this website
