Tata Motor's and FCA are set to extend their partnership on product development and manufacturing.
The two are working on local development of FCA’s two-litre multijet diesel engine, which will power two of Tata’s premium sports utility vehicles (SUV) and FCA’s new compact SUV, marketed under the ‘Jeep’ brand.
All three vehicles will hit the market around 2017. Tata will get access to a new-generation turbo-charged diesel engine, which it can use across a variety of products.

Tata will use the two-litre diesel engine on two new premium SUVs being developed jointly with its UK-based luxury car arm, Jaguar Land Rover. The first vehicle, codenamed ‘Q501’, will be a five-seater version, while ‘Q502’ will be a seven-seater variant. Both will be sold in the domestic and export markets such as South Africa, West Asia and Indonesia.

Tata Motors had sent the Request For Qualification for the two vehicles to automobile suppliers earlier this month, with target volumes of 50,000 units a year for both SUVs.
This is great news!
If the company has sent request for proposals, that means the final design is frozen and all set for manufacturing! The contracts for component manufacturing should be sealed in the next 6 months and testing should begin in the next one years or so. So display in the 2016 Autoexpo and launch in the late 2016 or early 2017 should be reality.

If the cars do come with the FIAT's 2.0 L MULTIJET Engine then is it can seal the deal in TATA's favour! They will have a winner in their hand!

2ltr multijet diesel. Hmmm. SUV, a front wheel drive! Should be a small one. If I am guessing right.

If the requests have been sent, that means design of the prototype has been frozen. Not the final design as is the case in any product design.

TATA may display a concept car, as they did with the Nexon, in 2016. And then mid 2017 launch of the product looks likely. Diwali 2017 maybe.

wait a minute. IS Q501 and Q502 the NEXON!

2.0L turbocharged engine will have the capability to put out 160-180BHP easily. That will be sufficiently able to pull 2 tonne SUV without any stress. Internationally companies are been forced to cut down on capacity and churn more output. So the JLR's 2.0 L 4 Cyl INGENIUM engine churns out 180BHP. So they will be a rear driven SUV's.

Spot-on! Yes prototype is frozen.

This is not the NEXON. Nexon is a compact SUV just like FORD ECOSPORT on the Monoque chassis. This is a complete project on the X1 platform and designed in-house.

Whereas the Q series cars are made in collaboration with JLR and will be on ladder frame chassis. So so TML will have 3 SUV's is passenger segment.

Q501 and Q502 are the two SUVs(premium) rumored to be based on the outgoing Freelander2 platform. A monocoque chassis and light weight construction will justify Tata considering this 2.0L multijet. Freelander used a 2.2L mill producing 180 bhp. These will be the premium offerings from TML.

I don't think they will replace the legendary Safari. If they do it, then I will be so sad. I really wish TML design a new generation Safari from scratch. Personally I've no great hopes on Storme facelift.

Cartoq have also rolled out a news that the 4 Cyl JLR's INGENIUM engine may also take the place. But FCA's 2.0L engine has different state of tunes. But TML may tune it to a lower state to match the Local requirement 'Kitna Deta Hai' to deliver more FE.

The Q5 badged project was said to have extensive Land Rover inputs, what with the monocoque chassis based current-generation Freelander2 platform forming the basis of the Indian automaker’s new SUV blitz. This also means that the Ingenium range of four cylinder turbo petrol and turbo diesel engines developed for use in Land Rovers and Jaguar vehicles may not find expression in a Tata SUV. The Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine seems all set to drive Tata Motors’ new utility vehicle strategy.
The 2.0 liter Fiat Multijet turbo diesel engine is a four cylinder unit first developed in 2008. The engine is available in a wide range of tunes, from 110 Bhp-260 Nm to 192 Bhp-380 Nm. The motor uses an aluminium head and a cast iron block, with a twin overhead camshaft layout and four valves per cylinder. This very engine also powers the Jeep Renegade and many other Fiat, Lancia and Alfa Romeo cars sold around the world.

Motors has been working towards developing two new SUVs on the Freelander platform.

The current update is that this will be the Raptor platform, on which the new Sumo will be based on. The Tata Q501 and Q502 are the code names of these vehicles.

The Q502 is a seven-seater and will be Tata Motors’ competitor for the Mahindra XUV500. The XUV500 will soon be getting a mid-life facelift and mostly an automatic version too. The pricing of this new Tata SUV will be between Rs 15-18lakhs (on-road) and will be a feature-loaded SUV. It will get the Harman touchscreen infotainment system with 10-speakers and a brand new-generation interior styling

The Q502 is likely to be based on the Raptor platform, which is based on Land Rover’s Integrated Body Frame, which is already seen on the Discovery 4, one of the most capable off-roaders around. The Freelander’s unibody platform is the Ford’s EUCD platform, so Tata Motors will stick to using Land Rover technology. The XUV500 is an all-wheel drive, while Tata Motors will utilise the Land Rover technology.

With the Q502, the company wants to make an off-roading capable product. This will be placed above the Safari Storme in Tata’s portfolio. The Q502 will be powered by the new 2.0-litre multijet engine, which isn’t confirmed yet. With this same engine, Fiat plans to power the Jeep’s new Made-In-India C-segment SUV, which will be exported from the India to other markets as well. Fiat is also developing a 1.5-litre diesel engine for India, which will be derived from the 1.6-litre multijet engine.

The Tata Q502 (codename) will make its way by 2017

Tata Motors starts work on the Renault's Duster rival -codenamed as Q501. This will be a five-seater SUV, which will be made on the Discovery platform (integrated body frame), which isn’t as heavy as ladder chassis, but also flexible for off-road conditions.
This new five-seater will be powered by a 1.5-litre Fiat multijet engine.

The Q502, is a XUV500 competition. A 2.0-litre engine will be the engine seen on it.
This Duster competition will sit between the Safari Storme and the XUV500 competitor (Q502).

hahahahah

Who writes all this. Discovery platform? Seriously?
Discover is well known for it weight. And that weight is due to the combined chassis system that they use. Earlier we had reports of TATA developing a similar platform. NOT on Discovery platform.

And sitting between Storme and the Xuv? Another double talk here. Duster sits below Storme. So if Q501 sits between Storme and Q502, then it wont be a duster competition, is it?

These journalists will do whatever to get hits. We better not speculate and wait until something concrete is around. And lets not forget, the time frame is 2017 launch. Too early to get concrete things. [;)]

Both Discovery and Freelander2 platforms are integrated body frame platforms so TATA may use this platforms as a core subject and developing a low cost integrated body frame platform name called Raptor platform maybe this platform will be future Moduler platform for next generation TATA's MUV/SUV's

The Q501 will be built on basically the same platform as the new Discovery Sports (L550) will compete with SUVs like Mahindra’s XUV500 at the lower and the Toyota Fortuner at the top end.while Tata’s SUV will share structural bits such as the floorpan with the Land Rover, the two products will be completely different in terms of look and feel and even the engine won’t be shared between the two.
For the Q501, Tata Motors is evaluating Fiat’s 2.0 Multijet II engine which is expected to make between 150 and 175bhp and lower-powered versions of the same could be used as well.
The engine is likely to be expensive as it will initially be imported, and it’s only when Fiat localises this engine at its Ranjangoan plant (which is a joint venture with Tata Motors) for future Jeep products that the cost will come down.
Stiff cost targets have been set for the Q501, which seem unachievable at the moment, but the company is hoping that this SUV will find a sweet spot and sell in big enough numbers to give it much needed economies of scale and localisation to drive down costs.

2007– Ford Mondeo

2007– Volvo S80 sedan

The Range Rover Evoque (code name L538), which was launched in 2011, uses a platform called LR-MS, which is loosely based on the EUCD platform.
