Tata Motors Forays into Motorsports

Amidst the growing popularity of motorsports in the country, leading Indian auto maker, Tata Motors, has forayed into the racing world by launching the ' Tata Motors Full Throttle'. Speaking on the matter, Mr. R Ramakrishnan, vice president, Commercial Passenger Car Business Unit, Tata Motors, said, "With best in class technologies in our product range, we will now be able to showcase these technologies through Tata Motors 'Full Throttle'. The platform will help the company in organizing and synergizing all efforts and activities in the area of motorsports including development and testing." The company will field its team of two Xenon XT and two Tata Safari models at the upcoming 'Desert Storm Rally', which is scheduled to start from 22nd February in Ahmadabad. Both of these models have already participated in a number of rallies in the past by independent participants. S G Saxena, Head, Utility Vehicles, Tata Motors, said, "Our participation will also help in better understanding the capabilities of our products (cars) on display. At the same time, our purpose to get involved with the motorsport events in the country will also be fulfilled." While further elaborating company’s new racing motorsport initiative, Mr. Ramakrishnan said, "The participants from Tata Motors in the Desert Storm Rally are all experienced drivers with enough experience of racing in India behind them. We are confident of a good show in the rally as well as other racing events to be organized later.”

Looks like TATA is following the Mahindra way! Good initiative , i am sure a Safari can withstand the rally!

Tata Motors Full Throttle has won the Eastern Mountain Safari 2011, with Tata Sumo Grande, steered by Mr.Aditya Anthony and Mr.Mohammed Musthafa. The team locked up first position, bagging a trophy and prize amount of Rs. 5 lakh. Riding on the success of 2011 Raid De Himalaya, Desert Storm 2011 and the Dakshin Dare 2011 Rally, Tata Motors Full Throttle team entered the Eastern Mountain Safari 2011, with 6 vehicles (2 each of Tata Safari, Tata Xenon and Tata Sumo Grande).

The Eastern Mountain Safari 2011, organised by the Ramakrishna Race Performance Management Pvt. Ltd. (RRPM), was split in 2 legs, from November 10 -11, 2011. The 400 kms long & torturous rally was challenging, with disclosed time controls (secret time control, self-time controls, GPS time controls) and passage controls. Tata Sumo Grande fearlessly conquered the Eastern hills, passing through every challenge, steep & rocky hills, amidst dense forests towards Kurseong and Kalimpong. Tata Motors launched the Tata Motors Full Throttle, as a platform for steering the company’s participation in motor sports and allied activities. The platform also helps the company, in organising and synergising all efforts and activities, in the area of motor sports, including development and testing. Tata Motors had earlier participated in several international rallies such as the London – Capetown rally (1998), ASEAN rally (2004) and the SAARC rally (2007), with the Tata Safari. In the past, independent participants have also driven the Tata Safari and the Tata Xenon XT (a 4x4 lifestyle pickup), in various rallies.

Siliguri, West Bengal, Nov 12 (IBNS): Aditya Anthony and Mohammed Musthafa clinched the Vodafone Eastern Mountain Safari 2011, here on Saturday.

The duo grabbed the prize-money of Rs. 5,00,000 with 1873 penalty points. They were followed by Asish Budhia and Mukesh Thakkar who won the second position the race.

They took away Rs. 3,00,000 with 288 penalty points. The third position was taken by the pair of Soham Hazra and Amit Kr. Saha with 2568 penalty points. They won a prize-money of Rs. 2,00,000.

The prize-money of Rs 10,000 in Best Tuner section went to Tata Motors.

Along with the prize money, each of the above positioned teams will receive two trophies each.

Ramakrishna Race Performance Management Pvt. Ltd. (RRPM) organized the first national car named Vodafone Eastern Mountain Safari (VEMS) 2011 in the hills of Eastern India.

The 400 kms rally was split into 2 legs and was covered on Nov 10 and Nov 11 with 10 hours as the driving time each day.

Amittrajit Ghosh, Director of RRPM said: “To make the event all the more exciting and challenging along with disclosed time controls and passage controls we also had secret time controls, self time controls and GPS time controls. All the participants appreciated the route, which was steep rocky uphill amidst dense forests towards Kurseong and Kalimpong.”

The winners list are as follows:

TATA Motors are having amazing journey since their foray into motorsports last year.After Safari,Xenon and Grande now their latest stalwart Sumo GOLD won Desert Storme Rally.Here is the full report:

Tata Motors Full Throttle rallied home to victory in the 10th edition of India's longest and one of the toughest off-roading events, the Desert Storm 2012 rally. Tata Motors took the honours with theTata Motors Full Throttle rallied home to victory in the 10th edition of India's longest and one new Tata Sumo Gold bagging first place, driven by Mr. Ganesh Moorthy and co-driver Mr. T. Nagrajan, followed by Mr. Sanjay Ram Takle and co-driver Mr. Mohd. Mustafa, winning third place in the Tata Sumo Grande.


The 6-day long Desert Storm rally, often referred to as the mini Dakar rally, is the longest and amongst the most challenging rallies in India. Flagged off from Ahmedabad, on 20th February, 2012, the rally spanned a grueling 3500 km through the Rann of Kutch, Bhuj, interiors of Rajasthan through Barmer, Jaiselmer, Pokhran, Thar, Bikaner and Jaipur, before reaching Delhi.

HIMALAYAN EXPERIENCE 2012

The Tata Motors Full Throttle Himalayan Experience, the first among a series of expeditions, is scheduled to start from New Delhi on the 22nd of June, 2012. Spanning over a period of 10 days, the expedition will cover 2,000 Km across 5 states and travel across high mountain passes, beautiful lakes as well as deep gorges before culminating in Srinagar on the 1st of July, 2012. Over 25 vehicles are expected to participate in the event.

Owners of Tata utility vehicles interested in participating in the expedition can download the terms and conditions and registration form. The registration fees is Rs 30,000 per person inclusive of boarding & lodging, medical back up, service support, insurance, permits and taxes.

I feel the prices are very attractive.
