Tata Curvv SUV coupe ICE and EV models revealed
After months of anticipation, Tata Motors has finally taken the covers off the new Curvv and Curvv EV Coupe SUVs in India. Currently, the company has showcased the clay models of these SUVs in their final production spec. The Tata Curvv currently stands out as the first mass-market SUV-coupe. It has been announced that the company will first launch the all-electric version, Curvv EV, on August 7. It will then be followed by the internal combustion engine (ICE) variant.
Tata Curvv ICE design
Starting off with the design of the Tata Curvv ICE, it gets a very premium front fascia with a ton of gloss black details and accent elements. It gets the same signature split headlamp design with rectangular elements like the Safari and Harrier. The center is dominated by a sleek grille and a connected LED DRL.
The lower section of the front bumper is also very aggressive and houses the LED headlights. It also gets a stylish-looking lower section with the same rectangular elements. There is also a silver skid plate.
On the side, the Curvv ICE boasts large petal-like alloy wheels that perfectly fill the squared-off wheel arches. This particular SUV also gets flush door handles, which is a Tata-first feature. As for the rear, the main highlight is its sloping roofline. It also gets sleek connected LED tail lamps that feature welcome and goodbye functionality.
Tata Curvv EV Design
Coming to the exterior design highlights of the Curvv EV, it shares the overall styling with its ICE counterpart. However, it includes subtle yet significant differences that highlight its electric nature.
The Curvv EV features a closed-off grille and tweaked bumper designs at both the front and rear. Additionally, it comes with aerodynamic alloy wheels that look a lot more sporty and futuristic.
At the moment, Tata Motors has only unveiled the final production spec design on the clay models. This means that the final interior design of these cars has not been revealed. However, it is expected to bear a close resemblance to the interiors of the Tata Nexon and Safari.
From all the spy images that we have seen so far, the dashboard will be dominated by a large floating touchscreen infotainment system. There will also be touch controls for the air conditioning and a four-spoke steering wheel.
The main highlight of this new steering wheel will be that it will feature an illuminated Tata logo borrowed from the Harrier and Safari. The interior will likely be available in various color options, depending on the variant.
As for the features, Tata Motors will be leaving no stones unturned. The Tata Curvv is expected to include a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with connected car technology, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto.
It will also get dual-zone climate control, a panoramic sunroof, and a nine-speaker JBL sound system. Additional features will include a powered driver’s seat, ventilated front seats, drive modes, keyless entry with push-button start, auto headlamps, and rain-sensing wipers.
In terms of safety features, Tata Motors will be offering the Curvv with six airbags, ABS with EBD, front and rear parking sensors, and a 360-degree camera. It will also get an electronic parking brake with auto hold, electronic stability control, a tire pressure monitoring system, and Level-2 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS).
Tata Curvv ICE Engine Options
First off, the Tata Curvv ICE variant will be offered with two powertrain options. The first will be Tata’s new 1.2-litre T-GDI turbo-petrol engine. This motor will produce 125 PS of power and 225 Nm of torque.
It will come paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). On the other hand, the diesel option includes a 1.5-litre engine. This engine will deliver 115 PS and 260 Nm, with a 6-speed manual transmission.
Tata Curvv EV Powertrain
At the moment, the exact powertrain specifications of the Curvv EV have not been revealed. However, it is expected to offer two powertrain options: Standard Range and Long Range. Most likely, it will offer a claimed range of over 500 km.
The Tata Curvv ICE version is anticipated to be priced starting from around Rs 10.5 lakh (ex-showroom). As for the competition, it will be competing with the likes of the soon-to-be-launched Citroen Basalt, Hyundai Creta, and Kia Seltos.
It will also take on the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Honda Elevate, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, and Skoda Kushaq. On the other hand, the Curvv EV is expected to be priced from around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). This will make it a rival to the MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and Maruti Suzuki eVX.
