In the wake of tighter emission norms coming into effect from April 2010, Maruti has launched the latest version of Swift petrol and Swift Dzire petrol with a 1.2-litre engine which complies to the stricter BS-IV norms. This is the same engine that was first seen doing duty in the Ritz.
The new engine, with a power output of 84bhp and 11.5kgm of max torque, will bring in improved transmission thus enhancing overall performance. (Earlier 1.3-liter petrol produced 87bhp and 11.3kgm of torque).
With the refined K-series engine, the company claims efficiency figures of 17.9kpl, an improvement of 2kpl over the old engine. Though actual figures can only be confirmed after a detailed road test.
The 1.2litre K-series petrol in the Ritz has won many accolades and this reputation will further boost Swift’s appeal as the 1.3-litre Multijet diesel is already selling like hot cake.
Maruti has recently announced a marginal price hike for all its models, but the Swift (Petrol) will miss the drill and prices will remain the same.

Hmmm only engine change or any cosmetic changes too?? Any pics??

Surprised that the price of this hot-selling model remains unchanged! Most people would not have minded to spend another 20k to own this beauty!

Fuel efficiency is great, but we have see if its maintain the current power of Swift, which it is famous for.
Well, looks like all eggs in one basket for Maruti ... all their new developed engines are on the K series, except the engine on the EECO.

So we should expect no cosmetic changes as theres no mention of the same on the list. Still with these improvements Swifts will continue to remain a hot seller.

Given the fact that the upgraded look is only 2 years old, although it had just a new grille and tail lamps on the exterior, I think by Maruti standards, the next new (ha ha) look is maybe a year away!!

New Swift customers not to get tax benefit

Economictimes
Maruti Suzuki will not be passing the benefits of lower taxes, at least for the new petrol variant of Swift to customers. The company will save around Rs 40,000 per car thanks to a lower excise duty for the Swift’s smaller engine, but has blamed a cost spike for its decision, a departure from the past.

Maruti launched the 1.2-litre petrol Swift in January, but retained the Rs 4-lakh base price of its 1.3-litre model. The smaller engine attracts an 8% excise duty, 12% lower than that of the phased-out bigger version. Cars under 4 metres with 1.2-litre petrol engines and 1.5-litre diesel engines attract an 8% excise duty while other passenger vehicles are taxed at 20%.
