I can understand Mr Jairam's frustrations. Basically Govt is unable to differentiate different categories of vehicles in their fuel pricing strategy.
Eg: they are not able to sell diesel at Rs 44 (with subsidy) for farmers/public transports & Rs 47 (without subsidy) for private transports.

Time for some creative analysis & deduction. If you any idea, please share. It will useful to the Govt.
The diesel-guzzling SUVs non-farming/transport vehicles are put on roads taking advantage of a government subsidy on diesel to benefit farming and heavy duty transport sectors.

Solution: Recover diesel subsidy from diesel vehicle cost. Sample calculations.

Base running distance: 1,00,000 Km
Base Fuel Economy: 15Km
Base diesel consumption: 6667 Litres (= 1,00,000 / 15)

Current diesel cost with subsidy: Rs 44
Diesel cost without subsidy: Rs 47
Amount to recover per litre of diesel: Rs 3
Cost to be added to vehicle price: Rs 20,000 (= 3 * 6667)

Current cost of private diesel vehicle: Rs 10,00,000
Cost adjusted for diesel subsidy: Rs 10,20,000
And everybody pays same price for diesel.

I guess too much fuss being kicked for Rs 20,000.
This proves Mr Jairam has forgotten what he learnt in economics at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology)

Note: Few finetunings:
1) Official ARAI figures can be for FE. So poor FE vehicle cost more.
2) As a policy, subsidy figure can be announed by Govt and to be remain fixed for a calendar year.
3) Base running distance can be fixed by a committee.

Maybe the government should give Diesel for free then and maybe Saudi sells petrol for 5 bucks a litre or so and so we should also make it available for 5 rupees plus just the freight or transit charges to India. Would 6.50 rupees be fair enough? No taxes any whatsoever. And maybe Jairam Ramesh along with the P.M and other ministers and M.Ps and M.L.As plus other dignitaries should ride a bicycle. That would save a lot of money. And that way some terrorist can run alongside and kill them for their sins when there are no escorts. Ain't that a great idea? What are you guys comparing this with and what a way to play the blame game? [sad]This is so very sad. Everyone wants every thing for free and dont want to pay taxes, And its all someone else's fault, We dont have anything to do with any of this now do we. Great just great.

We are looking at a hell hole of a nation thats yet to come if things go on like this. Do you people even realize how hard it is to get anything done in the proper channel these days? Why because everyone wants to jump the line. Things are going from worse to extreme situations because everyone is only bothered about 'getting' and not 'giving' and they will resort to any measure to get their way done. I remember some of our members here loosely encouraging the practice of bribing the authorities to escape from petty offences. And its always easy to put the blame on someone else. Let it be. No problem.

I wont ever debate hard on anything again. Whats the use? People have already made up their minds before even someone has said a word and its very hard to pour even a single drop of water in an already full cup. My bad and sorry for saying what I said before and now. I wont bother anyone again with my idiocracies.

Although, our minister has been a bit too harsh with his expressions, and directly targeted the Diesel SUV owners, which could certainly hurt the sentiments and return an opposing feedback. But it is somewhat true that in India usually someone else gains the benefits, except for whom it is actually intended, however, it’s not the public who is at charge, but the improper managing system, well maybe? Personally I fully support the post #5, Also, let us not drag other unrealistic points, and rather keep our calm since this is slightly political topic, so discrepancies in each one’s opinion are always expected.

@jalex we are not saying that they shouldn't use all service . what we are trying to say is that every car is burning fuel then why only SUV are getting targeting even though SUV are FE . if Jairam is that much worried then he could have said that we are raising tax. on private diesel car like diabloo said simple. why SUV are alone getting targeted

its we small and middle class which will be crushed if they raised price of diesel , rich people won't have single effect .

@ Jalex Your points seems very valid! But you are targeting only richies in your post! What about normal Safari and Scorpio owners then? Our running is pretty high , close to 2k kms a month and its impossible for us to run a petrol car! And we diesel owners are already paying atleast a lakh higher over petrol cars! Our Indian mindset is we want everything at the cheapest possible rate. Any why target SUV'S alone? There are few petrol sedans which offer even poor FE than SUV'S! Then they should make a law that poor FE vehicles should not be sold if they are really interested in wastage of fuel.

Maybe as Diabloo said they can charge 20k more for all poor FE vehicles(not only SUV'S). And how many times have we seen politicians in Safari's , Scorpio's and now even Fortuner's travelling alone with driver's in AC? Arent all these fuel wastages? And to add to that they rip their cars to the maximum which will return even poor FE! Then make the law equal to all , no politician should use SUV or luxury cars! Ask them to use FE cars like Swift , Fiesta , Verna , Indica etc etc.

Your points seems fair enough buddy but its actually unfair on normal people like us who still strive hard to earn money!

Its a nice forum and I have some questions...

1) I see no-one talked about bikes which run on petrol. So does govt thinks that people on bikes are rich?
2) Can petrol for bikes be made cheaper than petrol for cars?
3) Why did govt give green signal for manufacturing the diesel cars?
4) SPECIAL ONE - Why are people moving towards SUV?
5) Is govt failing to make good roads so demand for SUVs are increasing?
6) Is govt failing to provide good public transportation system?
7) Why is there no hurry or urgency in making good roads, providing better transportation
8) Why did the govt allow the misuse to production of diesel cars?
9) MY FAVORITE: Why ban tints for all cars?
My mileage dropped at an average of 2KM/Ltr+Sun burns
More AC more emissions of C2F2(Chloro floro carbons) and more black holes?
