You said no touch screen ... any particular reasons?? Coz if not, the Samsung Monte is a good buy in the branded phones in that price range.

X3 costs just Rs. 6300 and is a below average phone.
Even i considered it and later rejected it.
It runs the nokia symbian series 40 which is quiite old.
now series 60 is available.
BTW, do you like qwerty phones or normal keypad phones.

Try the nokia 2710 navigation edition.
It comes with lifetime free navigation, which works via a satellite, so no GPRS charges.
Here is a long review off the phhone Nokia 2710 Navigation Edition review: Lead the way - GSMArena.com

Here are the specs

Yes, most Nokia phones have Resistive touchsreens, which require finger nails/stylus to be operated with ease. However, some Nokia phones like Nokia X6 (out of your budget) have capacitive touchscreens which are easier to operate.

Both the Samsung Monte and the the Corby(Lindy) 3g
have Wi-fi, 3g, 3.2 Mp cam without flash, among others. The interface and looks are flashy.
You can also look at the Samsung Superb and new Samsung Galaxy 3g, which come with flash.
All these come with capacitive touchscreen.

However, if you want apps, then Nokias are the best, but they lack good touch-capabilities.

I go to gsmarena.com for most of my phone research.

The monte details are available at

It doesn't come with GPS. It comes with A-GPS, which is essentially plain maps.
Otherwise, +1 to what Mukesh says. The Corby 3g also has similar virtues and price.
The touchscreens are better than Nokia's.

Corby pro sells for around 10.5K
so if you can manage the 500 bucks, it seems worthwile.
