Re: Airbags Now Standard Feature Across All Polo Variants

Expected results by Global NCAP Indian Cars Fail Global NCAP Crash Test In The Worst Possible Way - Drivespark
We should tell you that only the base variants of these cars were picked up which meant none of them came with airbags as standard. This meant all five cars failed the NCAP even before they were crashed.

Its good to see that tests were done with base variants, since that would give the real picture of which manufacturers give us cars with structure same/similar to the global markets. We get safety features only on the top variants. Most people in India don't go for them. I hope that the government cracks whip on the manufacturers and once safety tests start, they should ban new vehicles which don't get minimum 3 star safety.

Totally agree pradeephk. Most surprising is the i10 result. That car got good ratings in Euro NCAP but here it fails miserably. Sure, addition of airbags must have helped it secure good Euro NCAP scores but it surely cant be the only reason. I suspect some car manufactures are using inferior structural components for their made in India cars :(

India's best selling small cars fail road tests

The same news which I came across this morning (courtesy/acknowledgement : NDTV website)

Tata Nano, other Indian small cars fail independent crash tests | NDTV.com

They have used base versions for the tests and not high end versions. Still we cannot take the tests wrong. As mentioned by other members, its high time, our government visit its own automobile policy and ensure roads are decongested from safeless vehicles. We have many deaths owing to road accidents and making mandatory safety features (even in base variants) will not only make the roads safer but also get rid of vehicles worth sending to dumping yard (take case of share autos - a great menance without any care for safety [frustration]).

Base variants should give options for features/gizmos but not on safety items (ABS/AIRBAGS). Also, cars should have a feature that it should not move forward without driver and co-passenger buckling the seat belt.

VW Polo with airbags is the only car to get an acceptable 4 star rating. Wonder why they didn't test the Figo with dual airbags ?
