Skoda’s teaser campaign for the facelifted Karoq is still gathering strength. The firm has issued a shadowy video clip of the new family SUV, which gives a first look at the car in the metal ahead of its scheduled launch on the 30th November.

The facelifted Skoda Karoq will get a range of styling tweaks and equipment upgrades designed to keep the SUV competitive with the Ford Kuga and the much newer third- generation Nissan Qashqai.

Skoda’s teaser video shows the revised Karoq will get a Kodiaq-inspired redesign. Like its larger sibling, there’ll be a deeper front bumper with a wide lower intake, slimmer LED headlights and square fog lights to create the brand’s now trademark lighting signature.

There’s also influence from elsewhere in the company’s line-up in items like the radiator grille, which now mirrors the design of the new Octavia’s. The car in the teaser video also has aerodynamic alloy wheel covers, like you find on the pure-electric Enyaq.

Recent design sketches (which can be viewed in our gallery) also show how the Karoq will benefit from a new black diffuser at the rear, along with a larger tailgate spoiler and a new pair of tail-lights, which feature a slimmer C-shaped signature.

Skoda’s latest teaser doesn’t offer a look at the Karoq’s cabin, but we’re expecting a new steering wheel design, updated door cards and a choice of new upholstery finishes. The SE L variant should also be fitted with the same 10.25-inch digital dash as the revised SEAT Ateca, with which the Karoq shares its platform.

There’s also the potential for Skoda to introduce an iV-badged plug-in hybrid version of the Karoq with this update. It would likely use the same 1.4-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and electric motor combination from the new Skoda Octavia iV, which would provide an output of 201bhp and a maximum electric range of around 30 miles.

The rest of the Karoq’s line-up will be made up of the Volkswagen Group’s familiar blend of petrol and diesel engines, opening with a 113bhp 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbocharged petrol and topping out with a 187bhp 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol on the flagship Sportline model. In the middle of the range, there’ll be a choice of 2.0-litre diesels, along with a 148bhp 1.5-litre TSI petrol.

Martin Jahn, Skoda’s board member for sales and marketing, said: “[The Karoq] was our most popular SUV model during the past year and the first half of 2021, which illustrates its importance within the model portfolio. I am convinced that we will build on this success story with the new edition of the Karoq and attract new customers to the brand.”

The Karoq is also Skoda’s second-best selling vehicle overall, just behind the Octavia – and the Czech brand is keen to maintain that momentum with this facelift. Since production started in 2017, more than 500,000 examples have been sold worldwide.

New 2022 Skoda Karoq facelift unveiled with tweaked styling

Skoda Karoq facelift-20.jpg

Following its facelifted seven-seat Kodiaq SUV, Skoda has now updated its best-selling Karoq family crossover for 2022, with minor styling updates, improvements to the driver assistance and infotainment tech, more sustainable materials inside and better aerodynamics to improve efficiency from a revised engine line-up.

Skoda Karoq facelift-21.jpg
The facelifted Skoda Karoq will help keep the brand’s popular SUV competitive in a class crowded with rivals that include the Hyundai Tucson, the new Nissan Qashqai, the Peugeot 3008 and soon, an all-new Kia Sportage.

As a result, Skoda has refreshed the model’s design. The grille is now hexagonal in shape and wider than before, while the headlights (now available with optional matrix LED tech) and tail-light units are slimmer, giving a sharper look according to Skoda. The wheels – available in 17 to 19 inches – also now feature plastic aerodynamic trims.

A new front bumper that features air curtains further helps to reduce drag and is joined by a restyled apron at the rear. Above this sits a larger spoiler, which completes the subtle exterior styling changes. However, these tweaks have a pronounced effect on the new Karoq’s aerodynamic efficiency, reducing the drag coefficient by nine per cent compared with its predecessor.

Inside, Skoda’s updated SUV will be offered with an Eco pack, which features seat covers made from vegan recycled materials. There is new LED ambient lighting available, featuring strips on the doors and dash that, according to Skoda, “create new visual highlights.”

Depending on trim the Karoq features new seats that Skoda claims offer more comfort. This includes an electric passenger seat with memory function for the first time, while electric lumbar support and a VarioFlex system that allows the rear seat bench to be split 40:20:40 will both be options.

Skoda Karoq facelift-10.jpg

Practicality is unchanged over its predecessor, with the new Karoq offering 521 litres of boot space. This rises to a maximum of 588 litres when optioned with the VarioFlex layout, while a maximum of 1,605 litres with the rear seats folded is available, or 1,810 litres with them removed altogether.

Skoda has also given the Karoq a tech boost, with a choice two digital dash displays now available. An eight-inch unit is standard with a 10.25-inch unit available as an option or on higher trim levels.

The touchscreen infotainment units are familiar, with an eight-inch Amundsen unit the base system. There’s a range-topping 9.2-inch Columbus set-up, while all systems feature over-the-air map updates for the sat-nav. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard too, while a wireless phone charging box is available as an option.

Skoda Karoq facelift-13.jpg

The Karoq’s engine line-up consists of five Evo-badged units that offer even greater efficiency and lower CO2 emissions compared with the outgoing car. The range starts with the entry-level 1.0-litre TSI three-cylinder turbo petrol. This serves up 108bhp and 200Nm of torque and is mated exclusively to a six-speed manual transmission that drives the front wheels only.

Skoda Karoq facelift-14.jpg

Skoda’s 1.5 TSI four-cylinder turbo engine features active cyclinder technology that can cut two of the cylinders under light loads to improve efficiency. This unit offers 148bhp and 250Nm of torque and is available with a six-speed manual transmission as standard, or a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic as an option.
