Volvo has released these sketches of Next Generation Volvo XC90 Concept.

The design may be advanced or futuristic but it's too boxy to suit my taste. What say?

Re: Sketches of Next-Gen Boxy Looking Volvo XC90 Now Out

I just hope the production model turns out similar to the ones in the pics. Else most of the production models look too boxy and boring.

Re: Sketches of Next-Gen Boxy Looking Volvo XC90 Now Out

One of the reasons why XC90 bombed in India apart from its brand is the way it looked, very uninspiring.I hope VOLVO take some design cues from Evoque to make the next gen XC90 look a smoking hot SUV.

Volvo releses the safety features on the XC90 - calling it could be " one of the safest cars in the world". True to their passion on SAFETY , there are a couple of World's first safety features in the XC90.

1.It will be will be the first vehicle in the world to offer run-off road protection.
The car will automatically detect an accident causing the car to go off the road and the system will react by tightening the front safety belts in order to keep the occupants in position. The belts will remain firm until the car comes to a full stop while Safe Positioning will prevent spine injuries by reducing vertical occupant forces up to 33 percent as the energy is absorbed between the seat and seat frame cushions.

2. It also features an auto brake function activated in an intersection if the driver turns in front of an oncoming car. The system can detect a potential crash and it automatically brakes to avoid an impact.
XC90 also offers systems to avoid run-off scenarios by implementing Lane Keeping Aid which applies additional steering torque if the XC90 is about to exit the lane unintentionally. There's also Driver Alert Control detecting and warning inattentive or tired drivers while Rest Stop Guidance provides info about the nearest rest area.

The list of safety and assistance system continues with extended road sign information, blind spot information and queue assist which in slow-moving queues automatically accelerates, brakes and steers the car according to the vehicle in front.
Parking is another feature - Park Assist is nothing new – However, the latest version of the system can do bay parking as well. And if you don't trust the computers to do the job for you, an array of cameras placed all around the XC90 will give you a 360 degree bird's eye view that's perfect for tight situations.

XC90 will be launched in India - March 2015. No petrol variant will be available intially.

The XC90 for India will come with Volvo’s latest generation 2.0-litre, four-cylinder diesel in 245bhp and 48kgm form, both figures better than the outgoing XC90’s 2.4-litre, five-cylinder diesel. The new XC90 is also said to be more efficient than the model it replaces, thanks in part to its use of an eight-speed gearbox. India-bound XC90’s will come with an all-wheel drive system, though front-wheel drive XC90s are likely to be a part of the range internationally.
Volvo officials have confirmed that the new XC90 will be launched in India in March 2015, with deliveries to commence from August. The first 200 units for India will be in top-spec guise (available in 2-3 colours), though more variants at a lower price will be offered later on. Pricing will be in Audi Q7 territory, so expect an ex-showroom price tag in the region of Rs 65-70 lakh

First edition of all-new Volvo XC90 sold out in 47 hours

The phrase ‘Sell like hotcakes’ fits this situation perfectly as the First Edition of the all-new Volvo XC90 was sold out in 47 hours after it was released at 3pm on Wednesday. Most of the cars were reserved within one hour from sales start. At its peak, as many as seven cars were sold every minute. Customers who have secured the First Edition models would receive deliveries in April 2015.

Speaking about such quick sell out, Alain Visser, Senior Vice President, Marketing, Sales and Customer Service of Volvo Car Group said, “We are very pleased, but not really surprised. The huge interest in the XC90 escalated to astronomical levels after the world-première last week.”

Innovative sales launch saw the First Edition cars, which celebrate the year Volvo was founded, made available to customers online only at language-selector | Volvo Cars. The 1,927 First Edition owners will get a fully equipped car with uniquely numbered tread plates and a distinctive badge on the tailgate.

“The first buyers signed up for their favourite number in milliseconds. The rapid response confirms that the XC90 is a truly iconic car model. The First Edition will be a collector’s item in the future,” Visser added.
